Looking for some recommendations for dark ambient and drone artists or albums

I'm looking for any artists or albums that might be similar to any of these here (any I bring up here I'm looking at more of their work with less vocals or without busy lyrics) :

OPN

Caretaker

Swans

Yellow Swans

Coil

Mathias Grassow

Earth

Sunn

Basinski

Tim Hecker

Microphones

Would love to get a huge list or just a suggestion of some deep cut artists as alot of these are well known. I've gotten back into reading and alot of these mentioned above really put some color onto the canvas with pretty much any book or story I'm on.

I've been digging 'Magnetism' by Kali Malone and Drew McDowall. Also a big fan of Fennesz, KMRU and Laurel Halo.

Thank you! I'm gonna check those out now. I haven't heard of any of those as I've just scratched the surface and did alot of my digging on rym charts

How do you find some of these artists you dig into? I use the rym charts but alot of it starts with the Canon stuff I know and I space out

I would suggest taking a look at Dark Zone over on SomaFM for a good selection of darker ambient and drone. A lot of Robert Rich, Alphaxone and Dronny Darko are Dark Ambient as well.

If you want to go proper dark ambient here's a selection of my favourites:

Troum & Yen Pox - Mnemonic Induction

Lustmord - Heresy

Robert Rich, B Lustmord - Stalker

Raison D'Etre - The Empty Hollow Unfolds

Svartsinn - Traces of Nothingness

Kammerheit - The Starwheel

Edit: Oh, and Thomas Köner- Permafrost!

This is amazing. I don't use bandcamp at all and that's probably where I'm going wrong. I'm gonna sort through these tonight while I'm reading blood meridian and see if something fits. If it's minimal vocals and dark it'll usually work well for me even if it's harsh. Thanks again for all the links

If you’re reading Blood Meridian then you might like this album, which is inspired by the book.

There's maybe one album in there that has some vocals. I personally quite like listening to ambient while reading as well but it has to be very minimalistic, something like this;

There's a way to add certain genres to your discover page/music feed (ambient, dark ambient, ect)

Great suggestions in here so far. I’ll always take these opportunities to recommend Alio Die. One of the most fascinating ambient artists I’ve ever found.

There are definite high points in the vast catalog. The tone and mood can vary significantly between releases. If you’re looking for the darker end, please check these out.

Arbor Lucis recently dropped and it is one of his most compelling to date. 10/10.

I'm into a lot of the stuff you listed, and I've been on a real Alio Die deep dive lately. I have a feeling you'd appreciate it if you haven't already been down that rabbit hole.

Because you mentioned Sunn, try Black Boned Angel

I've been listening to Éliane Radrigue's Triology de la Morte and really enjoy that for drone style music. Unsure if it is like the artists you listed, also haven't dug into her other works to see what else she has out.
