Salaried changes

I have today received an email that states ASDA will be speaking to unions about changes to pay next year in April. I will share screen shots too.

It also goes onto say about changes to the way we operate etc. With redundancy as a last resort

Colleagues should get same pay as Aldi as we are doing a number of roles £14 per hour

Aldi has a completely different structure of the business and operations that make it "possible" to pay extra. Asda doesn't need to, they never will.

Aldi wouldn't let their employees slack off like so many Asda employees do.

When we were told about the cameras in my store myself and other managers expect it to lead to redundancies. Probably change the role to just ‘duty manager’ and get rid of one or two in each store. Speculation obviously but it would track with their let’s be Aldi push.

I fully believe you’re exactly the right track -

Store closures for non-profit making stores,

and

Duty Managers instead of store/site managers- the A.i cameras can see that stores have offers set up, stock control and many things they task a manager on, and will be managed remotely with head office overseeing the stores, and the A.i cameras will feedback to head office and then any issues that site will then get a corrective action email!!

My SD and a ROM I know well told me that the cameras can see down the aisles and have a wide field fisheye lens and the SD’s and ROMs can remotely log in to the sites and check what’s going on at any time

The cameras aren't replacing jobs though, it just means you can bring out specific stock when you need to, rather than ragging out cages and working willy-nilly

Stores with cameras get negative RMIs due to having cameras. It’s always under the guise of efficiency

Yeah but it's task driven so you go to any department the tasks are hence the duty manager rather than fresh/ambient etc. Plus who do service managers look after now, hardly anyone

Ex-EG Managers

will maybe be out of the business at some point, this has been spoken about in many a corner for a long time now, they wanted to rid the business of that culture just like EVERY single Area Manager, Regional Manager and such positions related to Ex EG Management culture all went.

Save this, bank it and we’ll verify it by April next year.

All coinciding as if yesterday with GMB now representingembers in stores, and USDAW representing members in Express, etc.

Something big is coming. Asda doesn’t hand over collective bargaining for salaried managers unless it benefits them. Like any private equity owner, they’re setting the rules in their favour.

This feels like prep to flatten middle management under the GSM swapping specialised Department Managers for generalist Operations Managers. Standardised pay bands stop individual salary negotiations when managers transfer departments or stores. And including store closure terms in the agreement? They definitely didn't put that in there by accident.

My pay went up 12K in just almost two years just by swapping stores. The workload got easier while the

I think you’ve fully misunderstood the email.

It looks as if the unions are just outlining their approach to annual pay review and any labour demand changes that come along. This already happens, constantly.

This isn’t saying anything specific is happening just how they approach it when it does. The annual pay review is hourly rate pay and salary banding minimums - not a fully salary review… it happens already.

They dropped the second letter about Salaried positions now under threat- the Pay review is standard that’s every year, the other letter is different and mentions store closures in it too, Ai cameras stores might have changes were they go Duty Managers, and store not making a profit might be out, that would be the likely scenario as why would they keep open none profitable stores !!

As I keep saying, Lidl and Aldi love being near each other. My local ASDA is a big site for a ALDI but they would just make it have a bigger warehouse.

They would love how much marking that it has and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them introduce Greg’s on the card parks, odd big Asdas, that they take over.
