Hello, looking for some advice on how to navigate a tricky situation with my new manager.
I’m a mature uni student working a fixed 15-hour/week contract. About 3 weeks ago, I submitted a holiday request for Christmas week to travel home to visit my family (I've never been denied these days before). It sat pending for 3 odd weeks until today, when it was flat-out denied with just the word "Christmas".
The main issue is my scheduled shifts are Thursday Dec 24th and Saturday Dec 26th. Because public transport shuts down early on Christmas Eve and doesn't run properly on Boxing Day, it's physically impossible for me to work those shifts and travel home to see family via train.
Normally, I'd speak up more forcefully about the 4-week wait or look for another job, but I am currently in the middle of a mortgage application. Can't risk losing my job obviously.
What is the best way to handle this?
Class, absolutely buzzing for a whole month of cunts letting off fireworks at all hours because Asda will sell them to any prick.

The thing that annoys me most about working in asdas is when a customer moves the cage that I’m working while being in front of it and they push it into me it’s really annoying, I had one today where I said wow, just ask me to move the cage instead of pushing the cages into me, and the lady said I don’t need a lecture I already said sorry, how rude is that ain’t it, it’s like no customers has any respect for colleagues actually stocking the shelves for them

Hey everyone, thank you for the help you've all provided so far. I have recieved the notes and they clearly state, reinstated, no further investigation. This now proves what Asda has done (based on what Acas have said) is illegal and they cannot just change their minds. I'm 18, i financially couldn't manage paying for the things I had to pay for and as we know getting a job isn't easy. I was told I would get backpay and then poof, gone. I need your help in contacting Head Office. HR aren't providing help nor are whistleblowing. Please let me know if you can help in any way. How can this be right.

Having recently returned to the company, after an extended period with another retailer…
On the topic of case rate, I generally agree with most of the case rates are achievable with a bit of effort especially with faster facing, bar spirits with having to net all bottles and…. What on earth is the h&b case rate about? And I’m led to believe h&b should still be fully faced? Would genuinely love to see anyone hit this case rate with out being on the brink of a heart attack from illicit substances. Store I’m going into I’ve already been told h&b colleagues over night are an issue, and if they’re being judged on the case rate, I’m honestly not surprised, and in good faith I don’t think I’ll be able to manage them on performance like I’m going to be expected to. I’ve worked with hundreds of night colleagues over the years, and I don’t think one could hit that and deliver a presentable aisle

Some people say loyalty gets rewarded, others say you get the same rise as someone who started last week. If you've been there years, did sticking around change your pay, or did it feel like it should have?

Anyone heard anything on this?
Rumors going about that mitie are going to be in charge of the building over Christmas lockdown and putting guards in to watch the shop but also hearing that it could be a asda staff member and a mitie guard.. any news?

I have today received an email that states ASDA will be speaking to unions about changes to pay next year in April. I will share screen shots too.
It also goes onto say about changes to the way we operate etc. With redundancy as a last resort

Hi! I’ve been at Asda for a couple of months as a service colleague. Recently my managers have met with me to ask me to move to GM and I’m not really sure what to say.
My line manager keeps telling me to say no but I’m also someone who finds it really hard to say no 💀 the hours are much better for my schedule (full time university student), but I’d feel like I’m betraying my team if I move to GM.
Has anyone else been in this situation before or vice versa? I know every department has its horrors and I’m very used to being alone and running around like a chicken. I asked the manager to give me time to think (until Friday to decide). Either way I’ll be leaving around Aug-Sept 2027 for my uni’s study abroad program lol.
Any advice is appreciated! Thank you ^^

I'm posting on behalf of my husband who took voluntary redundancy last month.
He managed to sign into sdworx using the printed instructions given. He was logged out in the process of printing his information and has been unable to log back in.
Has anyone else had this issue?

Hi. Just curious as to what decides if a 24 hour Monday 7:30 - Saturday 10pm stays open?
I was sure after Covid, majority of these got shut down. I understand that there’s always workers inside Asda’s anyways post closing and through the night but what decides which ones stay open? One by me has been open like this for a long long time now. Surely they’ll be closed before long?

Hey, this question comes up a lot of this sub Reddit. So here's my two cents up for debate and discussion.
Things are grim at Asda right now...
- In my Area (London) two big stores have been closed
- my store has lost about 100 colleagues (excluding Security and Cleaners who are not Asda colleagues anymore) in the past couple of years
- Barely no one is getting hired
- Asda lost almost £1 Billion (£989 million) last financial year
- Asda has dropped to about just 10% of the market share
And I'm sure in your own stores you're struggling with higher workload, more sickness as a result, bad managers, I could go on...
We are struggling on basically minimum wage but 17 shareholders still got paid millions last year (£31 million, the year before that was £44 million)
But the solution to this is to build the union.
Why? Because when 50% of colleagues are in it we can negotiate our own pay. Managers and distribution workers get to do this. If they don't get a big enough pay rise each year, the union campaigns and sometimes goes on strike to win more money. That isn't impossible to achieve in stores.
Asda need to listen to us and though the union is the way they actually do listen.
The union can also help you. I had my reset meeting recently and my GMB official really helped me out when my manager was basically trying to throw me under the bus. They also helped me when I needed bereavement leave. You never know when you'll need their help. But also you being in the union, makes you the union if that makes sense. One big voice is much better than lots of little ones.
I know equal pay has been going on for ages but that's another reason to join. And they have a 'Blue Light Card' equivalent scheme called GMB Extra.
There's a lot of mixed opinions about the GMB and I don't want to discredit any poor experience with them. But I also want to say if you had a bad experience, the only way the GMB can improve is if we build it bigger.
£15 full time, £8.50 part time. It ain't bad if they keep my job, win equal pay and in the future hopefully win us a pay rise. But also get involved with the union, it's the best thing I ever did at work to be honest.
I'll shut up now lol!

Am I the only person who thinks the job would be completely different if the home shopping delivery driver role was 99% women?
I think they are so quick to change the protocol with drivers because the male drivers are more willing to work longer hours and satisfy the team members...?

our store has changed the rules, we was usually allowed to come 15 minutes before contract start time to give us enough time to load the van, do van checks etc, they’ve changed it to u can only start on ur contracted time. This is a horrible decision as it’s not enough time to load a full van and do van checks as if i start at 2pm i will be due out at 2:30pm. Has anyone else’s store had thr same issue? My average ambient load is around Back 16 even on singles
