vent I feel really lonely and simultaneously hate humans for how they treat other animals and can't bear talking with them. How to cope?

Basically what's in the title. I can't cope how much damage and harm we cause and seeing what we do to our friend shaped peers, then fight some stupid 'Lions though' lvl arguement. It's so frustrating seing how bad and destructive animal 'argi'culture is... how plane obvious it is that animal mass slaughter for pleasure is wrong and how most people I know still happily finance it. With a grin on their face and a corps in their belly. How in hell am I supposed not to scream at them. I want to see them suffer just as much as they made animals suffer for their supper. Just for a tiiny bit so they'll never do that to an animal again. Or u know... pay someone to torture animals for their pleasure in taste. I feel depressed and alone. How am I supposed to deal with this shit, fucked up humanity? How am I supposed to be happy when I see the aftermath of animal abuse daily and can't disassociate like everyone else does so mindlessly?

food Something I learned about my autism

So, I found out that Amy's did vegan ravioli, and, I was never able to have marinara (severe texture issues), but I always try things every few years to see if my brain kinda lets it pass, cause idk, I was curious about if it being plant-based meant that I could eat it, and I've found that occasionally my brain will shift and let something through that it didn't before. I tried it, and omg it was amazing. Now me and my partner (who is the reason I turned vegan, can never thank them enough) kinda have a tooth for it lmao.

advice needed I have meat in my fridge & I need it gone badly

Basically TLDR I Ubered food, got the wrong order, and didn't know what to do so I just put it in my fridge. This was at 4am so I didn't really do anything about it. Now I just have 2 boxes of wings and a burger in my tiny fridge.

I'm in a class full of other (mostly autistic) people I'm pretty comfortable with and I'm thinking about offering the food to them just so somebody eats it. At the same time I don't feel comfortable giving anyone meat to eat. But I also don't want it to go to waste because it's already here.

It's taking up a lot of room and every time I open my fridge the smell kills me every time I open it, idk if it's better to just throw it out. I don't like talking so I don't know if I can count on myself to actually do it. But if I could explain that I'm vegan maybe it'll feel good to have others know that I am vegan and they might consider it for themselves.

It may seem small, but wearing a vegan shirt goes a long way.

Not only do you get to spot & meet other vegans in public, but you also get to wear the message and normalize being vegan.

These simple forms of activism go a long way, and I encourage you to practice them.

vent Vegan restaurants and sensory issues

I'm realizing how few restaurants I can go to now and it makes me pretty sad. Everywhere my partner and I love to go is off the table now. No vegan foods. There is one known fully vegan restaurant in our city and every menu item is very complicated (lots of stuff and weird textures) and I feel offput by it. I just want some normal ass pancakes that are also vegan. Why is every vegan place a health nut place as well? And why is every "vegan option" at normal restaurants just basically a boring salad?

question How to make these from scratch?

I made these the other night for my partner and I, and we loved them. The problem is, they're way too expensive for regular purchase. I'm not even sure what they're made of, even after looking at the ingredients, so I have no clue how I could make these myself for cheaper. Does anyone know an easy recipe like this?

Birthday present was to ask to watch Dominion with my family - the update

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For my birthday I asked my family to watch Dominion with me (it’s free on YouTube). I want them to know the truth and choose what feels right in their heart.

I learned of this idea from joey bilotich who had mentioned it worked for his family. So. I spent 2 months wondering how to ask my family to do this until I realized my birthday is right here.Ā

And if I were in their shoes I’d really want to see this footage to know the truth. So I asked. And they all said yes. I know they love me and they did this for me.

Dominion is beyond informative. If you haven’t watched it vegan or not you are really missing out. There are so many things that happen to animals by humans and knowledge is power. How can we fight against abuse if we don’t even know all the crimes?

Outcome: my sister said she was going vegan. And her husband said only a few things would need to be removed to make the household vegan.Ā

I think it’s a huge win. I’m so proud of them and hope they can see they are so capable of speaking up and standing up for the animals.Ā Almost none of us are born vegan, we all needed help to wake up. Let’s keep helping.

Quick note: If anyone wants to debate veganism or discuss my views, feel free to message me directly. Let's keep the comments focused on helping vegans connect and supporting one another.

advice needed Going vegan and living with non-vegans

I've been transitioning to a plant-based diet for the past month or so, but what really sealed the deal on going vegan was watching Dominion. The thought of eating meat or dairy now makes me sick. But seeing my partner and our roommate eating meat and dairy is also making me feel pretty repulsed. I feel upset, and I'm worried about this causing a resentment to build up on my end. My partner is a leftist and they agree with my thoughts about veganism being the ethical choice, but they say they can't go vegan and last night said they won't watch Dominion (because I expressed interest in having them watch it) because they've already watched similar documentaries years ago and that they "just feel bad". They say that they can't restrict their diet because of their ED struggles and that when they tried to be vegetarian years ago it ended up being an excuse for them to eat less so they're worried these things are a slippery slope for them and that they need to just not think about food stuff. I understand this but it still feels like an excuse. Being vegan is not that hard.. most of what they enjoy is bread and hummus anyway. I'm just struggling to fully understand, as someone with Anorexia myself. And they were saying that everyone has different capacity for changes like this and that they can be uncomfortable. I feel like real change requires being uncomfortable. If we centered our comfort all the time, no hard changes would ever come. They're so against the status quo, but in this case it feels like they refuse to even try to challenge it. I feel hopeless because I want to feel less alone in this and I thought my partner at least would be willing to try with me, but I also don't want to be controlling. It's just hard because I feel like nobody else I know is willing to do the right thing with me. How do you cope with these feelings?

I also feel like being upset makes me a hypocrite because I didn't magically 100% become vegan overnight. I ate meat pretty recently (KFC) before watching the documentary and I am still struggling with certain things. Like my yogurt (one of my main ED safe foods) contains dairy but I haven't found a non-dairy one with the same nutritional information. But I am trying. I just feel like I'm being a hypocrite too :(

vent unsolicited taxidermy photos in unrelated sub

so i’m a part of another sub that is specifically for emotional support plushies. today someone posted their literal taxidermy foxes and went on about ā€œthese are my favorite plushies !!!! i hope this doesn’t offend anyone uwuā€ and obviously i commented that that’s weird and that animals aren’t a commodity and i didn’t want to see a mangled dead corpse on my phone,,, and im getting downvoted and people talking shit about it ? which is so funny, because a lot of other people have issue with it as well, but people are specifically mad at me because i mentioned being vegan. i absolutely can’t lmao,,,, like i genuinely can’t believe people are even trying to argue that ??? animals can’t consent and aren’t commodities i don’t,,,,, like im not crazy right ? i almost feel like im being too woke or dramatic or sensitive but i dont want to see a dead animal, especially on a plushie subreddit focused on mental health ???

vent Disconnect and zero critical thinking.

I want to post a picture, but I don't want to make anybody else sad about it. It's nothing graphic, it's just insensitive.

I suppose it's the sense of justice that we have, but I was just scrolling, as one does, and a video talking about 'wearing dead cows is better than vegan leather.'

🄺 petting a cow that has a number tag through its ear

Spouting facts that aren't facts. And as always, whenever anyone brings up an argument about veganism, especially regarding vegan leather, that it's plastic and worse for the environment. Not actually true.

But also, vegans are such a small percent of the population. We are not the ones that even buy most of the vegan leather!

Then I realized the thing was an ad for a belt. 😭 I had to unfriend some people that reposted it.

I'm a late-in-life vegan, and I don't get triggered often. But the whole thing was just callous and gross. Some male human with a half-ass grin on his face spouting lies to get people to buy his animal skin belts.

Just makes me sad for humanity.

I hate how so many people fail to see the intersection between the exploitation of non-human animals and the exploitation of humans.

It makes it so much easier to abuse humans when animals are so easily and readily abused.

I think it's one of those days I just need to go to sleep early.

advice needed Struggling with ARFID

I’m not autistic but got told this sub might be able to help me more so using this as a last resort haha, Iv been wanting to be vegan for a very long time but because of my ARFID I can’t eat anything cold and wet…. Sooo most veg and fruits FREAK me out. Iv managed to add onions, sweetcorn and spinach to my diet by frying them with meat. But I’m sick of eating meat so I would lovee some help/recommendations for meal ideas.

Right now Im mostly eating teriyaki chicken wraps and stirfrys with the veg above and I’m gunna replace the chicken with tofu. Anymore meal ideas so I can mix it up abit would be great, I mostly hide my veg in meals with sauce and fry them and I love some crispy food. Thanks !

vent How do you not let it get to you?

I'm crying over a stupid post on an autism sub when I should be sleeping. The post was something along the lines of "I don't like the taste/texture of meat how do I hide it in my food?" They were saying they needed to eat it because they were deficient in everything. I was obviously questioning why they would support animal cruelty when healthier alternatives exist and they don't even like eating meat anyway. But they were adamant they needed it for nutrition. It's so stupid I know most people don't care. Normally I ignore anything about meat, Irl I just try not to think about what the people around me are eating.

But I just can't stop thinking about it. How can someone care so little ? I'm too autistic for most of reddit and too now too vegan for the autism subs. The real world is just as bad, twice this week I was shouted at pushed into meltdowns by strangers for things I hadn't done.

My odds of making real life friends are low enough I might as well forget making friends with people who actually understand me. My own family don't even understand me.

Edit: Thank you!!! I spent the last couple of days avoiding the internet for the sake of my mental health, I wrote this in a full on meltdown. I saw all the notifications and got overwhelmed because I was afraid it would be more hate. I feel better knowing I'm not alone.

This is not to discourage new vegans or folks who are veg-curious!

The most difficult thing is all the hate from pre-vegans. And, living in a non-vegan world - it’s hard to unsee the truth once you wake up to the horrors of the animal agriculture industry.

This is not to discourage new vegans or folks who are veg-curious! Yes, this aspect of veganism can be challenging.

But the sense of purpose you’ll experience as a conscious consumer is unmatched. To know that you are making a positive impact and contribution to the planet, saving animals, and not paying for people to work on slaughterhouses is deeply fulfilling.

And, the vegan community is filled with so many like-HEARTED people. People who are constantly, consciously striving to make the world a better place alongside you.

Quick note: If anyone wants to debate veganism or discuss my views, feel free to message me directly. Let's keep the comments focused on helping vegans connect and supporting one another.

looking for friends Who's in SF?!

Hi y'all! I come up to SF for about a week, every month/every other month with my partner for their work. During the days I just spend time at the hotel mostly while they're at work. We usually stay downtown in the Soma district, mainly at the Clancy.

One of the trips each year I don't keep my car at the hotel but all the other times I have it so if you're not super close I don't mind driving out if you don't want to come to the city. I had a bone marrow transplant when I was younger so I lived in Palo Alto while going to the Stanford hospital and continued to come up frequently after treatment to visit friends so I know the area well enough and love driving.

I would love to meet and find some new friends to visit and hang out with while here if anyone is interested!

A few things about me:

šŸ’– I have been vegan for almost ten years and known I am autistic for about three/four years. I am in my early thirties.

šŸ–¤ Currently living in L.A. (come visit when you're down there!) I have lived in CA, TX, OR, and AZ. When I was in Oregon I lived and worked on an animal sanctuary called Blue Barn Farm & Sanctuary. In Arizona I did a lot of activism and was part of the movement that protested restaurants in AZ until they dropped foie gras from their menus!

šŸ’– I am a professional photographer and baker/chef.

šŸ–¤ We have two cats and a dog. Sheik, Violet, and Delilah

šŸ’– I love art, nature, music, food, and all the things šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø. Also, 420 friendly

I don't have my car for this trip unfortunately (parked at a friend's in Walnut Creek) and am here until Thursday night! I don't mind using Lime or Lyft if it isn't too far.

Feel free to ask questions! šŸ˜‡

question What’s the connection between autism and veganism?

I’m both autistic and vegan - but I’m not sure there is much of a connection between the two.

Maybe my autism makes it easier to question social norms - but most autistic people are not vegan. The majority of people in my social circle are autistic - but consume animal products.

I just don’t see why this subreddit is a thing.
