Hairloss 29 M Struggling to let it go
So the writings on the wall, crown started thinning a few years back, front started going about a year ago after an injury.
Had tough times with self image through life, and the curls were a big part of my identity and one of the few parts of myself that I was always happy with.
Looking for advice as much as anything, styling and whatnot, should I try a buzz? Full shave?
Couple details, I cannot grow a beard due to work requirements and the need to don fire gear or other respirators at any possible moment. Moustache is allowed as long as it’s not too big to break a respirator seal.
Only problem is I’ve never been in love with the stache, but it’s the only facial hair I’m allowed.
Working up the courage to bite the bullet. This sub has been a great resource for helping to blunt the coming blow. Appreciate everyone here.

OP, I rarely see anyone say this, so imma say it. Balding feels bad to all men, makes us all insecure. Balding just makes men look... old. What you don't realize is, once you've shaved, you won't worry about the fact you're balding anymore, you'll instantly have more confidence, it's a style choice you have control of.
You'll be handsome bald. Buzzcut first if you're worried about shave, but I encourage trying to shave at least once. Just wait until you feel a shaved head on a fresh pillow for the first time!
Watch Ytube videos by barbers on growing and shaping mustaches/beards, I recommend Matty Conrad on the GQ channel.

You hit the nail on the head. You don't have a choice about balding and it can feel like it's taking away a piece of you. Bald, however, is a choice. I recently made that choice and it feels so good to be in control again. I've been excited about creating my style again for the first time in a long time. The confidence you take back is absolutely worth it.

Yes. To me it feels like a version of body dismorphia. I totally get feeling frustrated, losing a part of your identity, but I don't think these men are seeing themselves accurately when they look in the mirror.
Of all the aging changes we go through in life, shaving your head is one of the things that will almost always make you look MORE attractive.

It's a rough thing to go through and not something you should rush into. For what it's worth I think shaving it off would look very flattering on you. You have nice eyes and some great facial hair to work with which will still allow you to have a sense of style. I'd say look through the subreddit a bit more, you'll see how much of a difference it can make on your looks and confidence to finally let it go

This is one of those things for us guys that I never understood the fear. We can always just rock it the way back.
I just shaved mine all the way down this week. But when I kept it a little bit longer, if I got a haircut and didnt like the fade or the way the cut was done, I just shaved down to a #2 and went on with my day. Wouldnt go back to that barber.

I see a tough dude right under that hair, there's a good chance it'll fit you so well, you'll ask yourself why you didn't do it before...
Worst case, the hair will grow, and you'll have time to think about what to do with it.
If you don't like yourself bald, try a hair transplant. I did mine only to find out on the surgery day that bald fits me hehe

Most young men don't like themselves bald. There are some men who are completely comfortable in their own skin but most men don't like it. I know this going through it myself since my very early 20s and it takes your confidence, the joy out of socialising, it gives you less options in terms of how you look. I looked at a photo recently from a bachelor party and in the photo was a group of about 20 men who's ages ranged from 27 to 48 and there was 1 bald man in that photo. 1 out of 20. These weren't all particularly handsome men but all then men with hair just looked better than the bald man in that photo. It gets annoying.

Shave it off my guy. It’s distracting rather than enhancing your features. Take this time to explore a new version of yourself! Try growing out a full beard. That’s what I did when I shaved mine

This might help... And I'm sorry... You currently look like a bald guy with a shit wig. Take the wig off and just be a bald guy. Also get a moisturiser with spf30 and put it on after your morning shower, it will stop your skin from out aging you. You don't want to hit 50 and look 70. You got this!!

I think you should do it. IMO you’ll appear more put together and less pressed to hold on to something that unfortunately is just not the same anymore. You’re gonna look bad ass w that mustache too.
Something abt bald men is attractive. Maybe it’s that they’ve taken matters into their own hands. It’s brave in its own micro way. I also think it can say something abt self acceptance. That’s just me tho. Good luck w whatever you decide.

I’m sorry to be blunt, but you are to the point where it is apparent to everyone but yourself. Your curls were cool. But that’s not what made that cool part of you cool. It’s the feeling they gave you. The way they let you operate in a group. Let your handsome bald head be that now. It’s not shaving your curls off, it’s transforming into the next, more improved version of yourself. It’s not a hair cut, it’s an evolution of the self.

Brother I can tell you right now, bald is going to work for you. I had long hair throughout high school but knew I was going to go bald due to my dad's side of the family all being bald. I dreaded it. Lost so much self confidence when I started loosing it. Got bored one day about 1.5 years ago and finally busted out the clippers. I wish I did it so much sooner. I know it sucks, but struggling or not makes no difference. It’s leaving you anyway. Might as well take control of the situation and get it done. Try out some different facial hair styles too. Find a combo that works for you. You’ll feel and look better than you think.
