Discuss How do you differentiate between good and bad Acting.

I have seen a lot of discussing about acting skills , some get trolled badly for their acting skills but i am rarely able to differentiate between between good and bad acting skills for eg:- KRK acting skills i am able to identify is bad , but I found Varun Dhawan s acting skills ok but he is considered bad . So you all are able to differentiate , what things you generally observe .

Varun is considered ok to good in terms of acting skills.

You observe the emotions, expressions, body language, dialogue delivery, ability to make you beleive that person is that character etc.

Varun has TERRIBLE diction. He has a tapori accent in EVERY movie. Ruined Kalank (already a bad movie) by sounding like Aamir Khan from Rangeela.

Kalank isn't the only movie Varun has worked on. Try Badlapur, October, Border 2

Idk how you call Varun's acting ok? I recently saw badlapur..( the movie people praise Varun for) and I was surprised to see his acting. He was terrible in it

My rule of thumb is when I forget I am watching an actor, that's great acting if I occasionally remember he is so and so it means he is doing okay job and well when I can't see anything but the actor it means it's terrible acting.

For me, an actor is doing well if I see the character and not the actor on my screen. For instance, Priyanka Chopra has that capability. Most of the time I see her films, I see the character rather than the actor. Now Salman Khan or Akshay Kumar are opposite of that. All I see in their films is a version of themselves.

Another example of an actor that becomes his character is Ranveer Singh. Opposite of him is Anushka Sharma. Even her iconic characters seem like a version of her.

Varun Dhawan is alright. I feel most of his characters were very close to his own personality plus his style is very repetitive. He is, surprisingly, not annoying to watch on screen.

Now, Siddharth Malhotra is not a good actor. He plays a version of himself in all his films. Just change his clothes and you won't be able to tell apart any of his characters whatsoever. Not even Captain Vikram Batra from Shershah. Same goes for Kiara Advani.

Alia Bhatt might have the skills but lacks aura to pull off every kind of character. Shahrukh Khan is actually the opposite of it. He doesn't have the skills to pull off all kinds of character but he is so freaking charismatic that people will accept him in every kind of role.

If I see the character instead of the actors then the actor is good. For eg: Vijay from Queen is very different from both Pritam Vidrohi and Badass Babua in Bareilly ki Barfi and both are different from Shardul Thakur in Badhaai Do.

All three movies are romcoms but Rajkumar Rao manages to differentiate all these characters.

Watch Himesh Reshemiya act in any film then watch Manoj Bajpai.

When I can connect with a character they are playing.

Focus on the rectangle that includes eyes, brows, nose, cheeks and upper lips. Mostly the euesThat's where you can tell a good performance from a bad one.

In Jailer 2 there's a scene with Mithun Chakraborty in it where he watches a character die off screen. It's a 2 or 3 second reaction shot, but he expresses pain and disbelief so beautifully that you feel sorry for him.

If people like it, it's good acting. If they don't, it's bad acting.

Watch Arjun Kapoor act in any movie is a bad acting, and watch Manoj Bajpai act in any movie is a good acting

Believability.

Are they convincing in the role and character they are playing. Do they seem to fit the tone and intent of the film.

If you're a Redditor. The least expressive you can be while still reciting lines means you're the greatest actor of all time.

Varun dhawan is actually better than most bollywood actors; as another user said, you tend to forget that you are watching an actor.

Aamir and srk are not the greatest actors because you can usually tell that it is always them playing a character. Their mannerisms, peculiarities carry over.

Bad actors like karthik aryan, imran khan, etc. are unable to convey more subtle emotions or nuances because they focus only on the lines and do bare minimum so far as body language/pitch of voice is concerned. That is more than sufficient for 90 percent of the time in 90 percent of the movies, but if something comes up beyond their comfort zone they get exposed.

Sometimes good actors get typecast (nawazuddin, pankaj tripathi etc.) but when they get a different kind of role they bite into it and you forget its them.

naseeruddin shah, om puri, manoj bajpai are truly masters of the craft and they excel and make each part their own. I used to think rajkumar rao could fit into this bracket but his performances from white tiger onwards have disappointed.

Mr. Bachchan deserves a special mention because even though he is a star, he has remained an actor, and when the role calls for it, his mannerisms disappear.
