Discussion Lock your doors. Don't be me.

I just had a harrowing experience.

I live in a house turned into a triplex and on the top floor attic apartment on around Brant ave. You have to walk up a lot of stairs to get to my door outside and then a lot more once you open my door to get onto the landing inside my apartment. Its a work out. Ive lived here for 10 years and feel invisible to the world. Or so I thought.

1230am, getting ready for sleep for work tomorrow at 1130. Put my cpap on, starting to drift off. The light comes on in my stairwell at the bottom of my steps. I immediately step out of bed and run to the stairs down to my front door and there's a fucking GUY at the bottom of my stairs and looks at me. Before he could even say anything I fucking LOSE it. "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY PLACE RIGHT NOW OR IM CALLING THE COPS. GET THE FUCK OUT." He says something like "im sorry man, I thought this was my friend place "172" something" (I cant quite remember. I cut him off again and said i dont give a fuck get the fuck out right now or im calling the cops.

He backs out of my apartment and rakes like 4 steps backwards and I slam the door shut and lock it and am standing at the door and hear him mumble something to me and I just said fuck off get the fuck out of here or im calling rhe cops.

Like 4 minutes pass and I had heard him step down my steps and I didnt know what else to do as I was freaking out with adrenaline.

I stupidly opened the door and looked out and said you better be fucking gone (to no one) and I noticed he was at my neighbour's backyard fence (our backyards connect) and i screamed at him from quite a distance to get the fuck out of the yard and leave now and he actually said to me "should've kept your door locked, you fucking idiot." To which i then said im calling the cops now and closed the door and locked it again and called them. Told them the terrible description I had (40s, white, brown jacket, didnt look homeless).

They came 15 mins later and of course he was gone after doing a coupoe laps around neighbouring blocks.

Don't know if im going to sleep tonight now. 😞

Before anyone wants to call me an idiot for it, yes, i already know im an idiot for not regularly locking my door when im home.

Believe me, that wont ever happen again.

Question Moving to Brantford

My wife and i are moving to Brantford soon. What do you guys do for a getaway or something. We usually go somewhere out of town on drives but since we’re moving to Brantford, we’re hoping to explore the city a bit before we start visiting other places. Any recommendations?

Discussion Voting? Don’t forget Arrowdale: 8 people made the decision

With the municipal election already here by early voting, and the Federal by-election some time in the next 6 months, I would encourage voters to remember how the Mayor and City council voted and sold a municipal, citizen owned, property simply because they were ineffective at balancing their budget.

The 2019 vote was secretly squeezed in. The 2020 vote resulted in years of legal battles, including the occupation of the golf course by Indigenous Canadians. The 2022 vote was done AFTER the municipal election that would see THREE of the yes voters not seek re-election.

It was a back room deal that was forced through by a lame duck council.

It is likely that if the vote were done with the newly elected council, the result would have been 6-5 AGAINST the sale.

The people of Brantford were clear: we did not want a public golf course sold. Yet the council that promised NOT to sell it finalized the sale in a 2022 vote. All three votes were 8-3, with the same 8 voting for the sale, and the same three voting against.

Those who voted to sell our 100 year old golf course, and who did not seek Indigenous discussion on the sale, are Dan McCreary for Mayor, and Kevin Davis who will run in the Federal by-election.

The Conservative track record for selling Crown assets is appalling. What would Dan sell out from under us next?

Both Richard Carpenter and Brian Van Tilborg voted AGAINST the sale. Carpenter is running for Mayor, and Van Tilborg is running for Ward 5 Councillor.

People like McCreary and Davis will continue to use the false equivalent that the sale will fund affordable housing. There should be zero linking of the two. They are trying to appeal to your emotions, when the reality is they should have built housing without selling the only affordable golf course in town.

Other cities fund housing WITHOUT selling the green spaces that those residents would enjoy. Other cities do this WITHOUT the $5 million per year ($112 million cumulative) that the city receives from the casino.

When voting, don’t forget that McCreary and Davis sold us out last time. What really would change going forward?

Heres the expositors Q&A for Ward 1 Candidates. They are asked the following questions:

What is the most important issue in your ward?

If the city was awarded $10 million to spend, and you alone could decide how to spend it, what would you use it for?

What would you do to ease traffic congestion on city streets?

Discussion Housing is a national crisis and rent is a profit source for the most wealthy people in Canada. IT IS NOT YOUR GOVERNMENT at fault. See the names in the "Registered directors" column. They own and control properties across Canada, everywhere.

Discussion Anyone have any sources for the Schoolboard Trustees before voting?

For Mayor and the Ward Councillors plenty of info is readily available online, here on Reddit, or via some news papers, but I cannot seem to find much information for the Schoolboard Trustees. Last option seems to be emailing each of them directly from the addresses on our Government Website, which I can do if necessary. But does anyone have any sources for some info online?

Discussion Wholesale Club

When Cash & Carry on Morton turned into Wholesale Club is it just a name change or did the place change entirely as well? (I've never been inside a wholesale club)

The Cahiague Homes is a notable place for my childhood and I was saddened when I seen it wasn't Cash & Carry anymore. I've never bothered to walk in but now i'm starting to wonder again since i just drove past.

Question Elective c-section?

Everywhere online tells me that you can get elective c-sections for mental health reasons in Ontario, but my midwife told me it’s not possible to get one without a medical reason. I’m unsure if she meant just in Brantford or in general, but I’m curious if anybody in Brantford or the surrounding area (Kitchener, Hamilton, Cambridge, etc.) has gotten an elective c-section ? I have not actually asked my OB about it yet since I do not see him until the 20th, but I plan to.

I’m not looking for some kind of lecture on c-section vs vaginal births, I have done my research, I just want to know if anybody around my area has been able to get one.

Discussion 2 Doors Down

I finally made it over to 2 Doors Down, and I have to say, it’s a really great space! The comedy show I thought was happening had been cancelled, but I didn’t get the memo and showed up anyway. Honestly, though, I’m glad I did. I love that they have a jukebox. There’s something fun about sharing your music taste with a room full of strangers, even if there’s a certain amount of pressure in forcing your musical preferences on an unsuspecting crowd. 😂 But a kind patron built up my confidence to play a few of my own favourites. Whether they were enjoyed by all. Will never know. But I had a great time.

They also seem to have quite a few events on the go, so I’ll definitely have to keep an eye on what’s coming up. Thought I would share #sharingiscaring

I encourage everyone to read this inconceivable article. This needs the public's attention. I am appalled by what I just read. These vulnerable people are being abused and neglected to the point of broken bones and death. I truly can't believe this is real. Where's the accountability?

Good afternoon,

Hello r/NorfolkON

"On Monday, October 5th, Josh was involved in a serious car accident just seconds from home. He was airlifted to Hamilton, where his family learned that he had suffered a life-altering spinal cord injury. Josh is currently paralyzed from the chest down, and the family is navigating an incredibly difficult and uncertain time."

I am not connected to the Lenze's. Just trying to give this more visibility. This family could use a lot of support.

This was the moment I realized I could never vote for Rose Sicoli. Her condescending attitude here to someone asking for more transparency from the city and more time to figure out a new plan for housing was unsettling to say the least.
