Suggestions?

Somewhat new to appreciating different butters, but was lucky to find a local store with what seems to be a good variety to try. Any recommendations for what is best from these pics?

Beurre D’Isigny AOP salted is divine

Another vote for this butter. French butters in general are wonderful

I’m definitely partial to French butters. Never had one I didn’t like. The salt crystals in that one take it over the top for me

I love their creme fraiche. I bet their butter is so nice

2

u/kaleidoscope_eyes_13 16d ago

I’m gonna have to find some of their crème fraiche now!

u/sugarsub10 16d ago

I found it at whole foods!

The Breton butter and the camargue butter ( both on far left) should be tried as they have been prized literally for centuries as being among the ultimate in butters.

I haven’t had them myself specifically but they both look like fantastic choices! Adding to the must try list

This. I got some this week and it’s been a revelation

The salt crystals are literal magic. So so good

Was going to tell op that as well, best butter I have tried.

I bring my mom two packs when I visit

Does Publix have it?

1

u/kaleidoscope_eyes_13 16d ago

I have no idea. Sadly I don’t live in the Publix area

Les Prés Sales Butter with Camargue Sea Salt, a rich 82% butterfat Belgian butter flecked with coarse sea salt crystals from France

u/Competitive-Rule-276 16d ago

I second this! It’s so good you could cut a slice and eat it like cheese!

That’s how you end up on TLC

I gave some to my grandmother for her birthday 🎉

You must really love her! ❤️

Omg, at first I thought this was YOUR fridge! Lol

1

u/spookysaph 16d ago

I thought it was a completely different sub also lol

1

u/txtw 16d ago

Same, was jealous!

I'd start with whichever had the highest fat content, and go from there. I've heard plugra is good, but I haven't tried most of these

Beurre disigny is my favorite but there’s several different options and some I felt like I needed to add a bit more salt. The one I don’t add salt to has dark blue wrapping but I don’t think they have it there.

The pres sales one is almost cheese-like and has a more mushroomy(?) flavor than “normal” butter. I didn’t like it on bread but on a cracker it was pretty good imo

Isigny Ste Mere! TBH, any of the French butters. Even President is better than the Plugra and Vermont Creamery. President is even better than Kerrygold.

1

u/stefanica 16d ago

And then get some of the Bulgarian sheep cheese...

1

u/9Trevor9 16d ago

I notice the President says Product of Brazil. I assume then it is from Brazilian cows?

2

u/dosi5644 16d ago

My recent purchase of this butter was product of Brazil also. I did not find it better than supermarket butter.

2

u/Logical_Warthog5212 16d ago

Then scratch that. I’ve only had the President imported from Normandy.

5

u/cgourdine 16d ago

d’isgny always

2

u/Big-Wave-2977 16d ago

Paysan Breton was my gateway. Those big salt crystals are SO good.

1

u/avco11a 16d ago

I SECOND THIS!

3

u/Burton14e7 16d ago

I've never had the Isigny Spring Butter so I'd get that. I use their beurre baratte over the AOP as my daily bread butter because I like how salty it is.

u/fregulayum 16d ago

France. The answer is always France.

u/tessathemurdervilles 16d ago

Les pres sales is SLEPT ON. It is my favorite butter. But also paysan breton. I am a fiend for northern France butter.

u/Fuzzy_Welcome8348 16d ago

Plugra or Kerry gold

2

u/Weekly_Fly_486 16d ago

i had to scroll way too far to find any comment about KerryGold. But also grassland is top tier

1

u/DovasTech 16d ago

Plugra salted is top tier

1

u/Strict-Relief-8434 16d ago

I’d say you don’t have enough butter in your fridge /s

1

u/beattysgirl 16d ago

I have to ask, is this at a place called Euro Delicatessen in Galloway Ohio? 😂 it looks so much like the little store I love

1

u/Electronic_Chef1109 16d ago

The Breton one. But France always has the best butter

1

u/MacaroonSad8860 16d ago

I love Payson Breton personally

1

u/Onto_new_ideas 16d ago

On another note, the bulgarian sheep's milk cheese is one of my favorites! Similar to feta in a brine, but better.

1

u/ell-ta 16d ago

Any of those french butter

1

u/Kammy44 16d ago

I have never had French butter. Which one should I try?

1

u/Which-Break5673 16d ago

I like Plugra best.

1

u/Subduction 16d ago

It is 100 percent fine to like what you like, but Plugra, unfortunately, adds artificial butter flavor.

1

u/_InvincibleSummer_ 16d ago

I can’t find any evidence to support this, can you provide some?

1

u/TikaPants 16d ago

I have a nice baker/butcher down the street. They have Plugra everywhere in their kitchen.

1

u/LghtlyHmmrd 16d ago

For a second I thought this was your fridge and I was so excited for you

1

u/Conscious-Leg8404 16d ago

Can I send you my address?

1

u/Bananno1976 16d ago

A laxative or two?

1

u/Practical_Yam9480 16d ago

That Vologda butter (the one labeled Волого́дское ма́сло under the President) is elite. People sleep on it big time, they tend to only know the same old brands sold in ordinary supermarkets.

Fun fact, it was Russia’s first ever DOP product.

1

u/Busy-Ad7159 16d ago

People will have their favorite who haven’t tried any others. To me any French or Irish grass fed is better than any regular butter. Try different ones and decide for yourself.

1

u/Karineh 16d ago

I grew up on the Russian one with the cow and red barn. So good

1

u/No-Abies29 16d ago

It seems that the blue packaged Le Gall has sold a few, maybe that’s a hint.

1

u/conradelvis 16d ago

Try something fermented

1

u/ObviousExtent9041 15d ago

Plugra and kerrigold

1

u/Expensive_Hyena351 15d ago

Left top shelf any of those 2

1

u/nonchalantly_weird 15d ago

Before tariffs, the Beurre d'Isigny at my store was $6.49. I thought that was nuts, but I happily paid it because it is so good. I can't bring myself to pay the price now.

1

u/Expensive-Ad-3702 14d ago

The Belgian one ot the one from Brittany. Only because there are no Cornish ones available.

1

u/Jitterbuggy17 14d ago

The Pres Sales one in the top left corner hands down!! It’s incredible!

1

u/xpietoe42 14d ago

I don’t see it, but it may be there, if you try Le Beurre Bordier, it is the finest of hand made butters!

1

u/TraditionalCap6882 14d ago

What are you using it for?

Eating on bread? Pres sales or Vermont

Baking? Plugra, Vermont, or cremerie

1

u/EarlyVirginia-1680 13d ago

The Valbreso feta is the best I’ve ever had.

1

u/ReasonableStorage493 13d ago

💯 Paysan Breton Sel De Mer.

1

u/BlueAngel365 7d ago

Add more butter.🧈

1

u/Jackie-Wan-Kenobi 16d ago

I would personally grab the French butter if it is actually imported from France. I don’t know anything about that particular brand.

1

u/MrSocks2024 16d ago

I love the Pres Sales Camarghe. The Paysan Breton are probably good as well.

u/WaltonGogginsTeeth 16d ago

Plurga slaps

0

u/laylapearson 16d ago

I use Plugra for baking. The price is good and its has high butter fat. Ina Garten turned me onto this product. Some of the other French butters would be divine on a fresh baguette or croissant but if you’re using it for baking, I wouldn’t spend that kind of money.

Kerrygold Irish butter. End of thread.

1

u/Expensive-Ad-3702 14d ago

It is OK, but not a patch on Breton or Belgian butters IMO. I buy local Cornish butter.

1

u/snozzle26 12d ago

Whats great about those butters?

1

u/Expensive-Ad-3702 12d ago

Taste. Plus I prefer to support smaller producers not huge corporations.

0

u/AlfalfaUnable1629 16d ago

I hear the plugra is 👌🏼

0

u/primeline31 16d ago

Pack that up in plastic bags to preserve the freshness to stop it from absorbing odors. Freez a good deal of it using freezer bags too.

u/locoles 13d ago

Les pres sales and it’s not even close
