I bought this 464 cheap of the internet and it doesn't turn on. I already swapped the transformer with a friends unit, but didn't do anything.
Probably something on the power pcb. Checked the fuses and swapped the big caps. still dead...
if anyone has any guesses I would appreciate it 🤝

Mixtape Revisionist History

I had this soundtrack on cassette as a kid. In recreating it in 2026, I pretty much made up a whole new track-list of hip-hop and electro-funk of the era, over 90 minutes, and included just a few of the originals. Fun.

Bootleg trying to build my own cassette player - i need help!

Post image

i’ve been troubleshooting this for the past 5 hours, and i’m still getting a lot of noise from the output.

i have a cassette head YCOG16 mono head, and i’m trying to build an amplifier to amplify the signal

the circuit for the amplifier that i’m building is attached, i tried building the left channel according to the schematic and the only difference is for R1 i’m using a normal resistor and not a metal film resistor - could that be the reason why?

Hey guys, I just got and changed the belt in this WM-EX80 but I have slight wow & flutter issue that, to be honest, I have no idea where to even start to solve it. It's my first time doing a repair like this so I am very inexperienced, any advice is welcome :)

Looking for advice Home recorded tape sounds normal on deck (Panasonic SG-D16) but slow on portable (Fiio CP13)?

Hello fellow nerd, geeks, and etc.

I recently picked up a Panasonic SG-D16 for a good price in order to start getting into the recording side of our little hobby. Not the best pick by any means, I know, but it was available, working, and in budget.

I got it hooked up to my computer, made sure to use the MP3 files and ran them through WinAmp (with the equalizer at default levels), equalized it appropriately on the deck itself, and shoved a Maxell UR IEC Type 1 - Normal into Deck A.

After the whole album played through I rewound it to the beginning and gave it a listen for a few. It sounded pretty darn good for a first try (though I need to practice my equalizing clearly...or pop-punk isn't the best for these tapes). I popped it out and shoved it into my portable, a Fiio CP13, and it was...slow? Like maybe 0.8x or 0.9x speed?

The weird thing is that all other tapes I have played on my portable sound perfectly fine and normal speed. It is just this one tape that is a smidge slow. Now I did hook it up to charge as it has been a bit, and it's possible this is all it is, but in case it isn't I am curious if anyone has any ideas.

If a charge isn't the issue, should I slow the deck down, speed it up, speed up my portable instead?

I also tried another tape out on the deck and it was playing at what seemed like normal speed (though now I'll question myself lol).

Edit: Fully charged and no change there

Edit 2: Yup yup thanks to lordwintergreen and mediageeknet it seems the deck was indeed fast! I had not read electric diagrams in years so that was fun to visit those old pathways. Anyway, for anyone with this deck in the future, you simply need to unscrew the vinyl platter and slowly pull it off, then unplug the two connectors to the mainboard. The motor control is a screw on the mainboard under the section "Motor" and labelled VR401 with 103 (703?) printed onto the screw itself. It should have a soldered connection going to a small PCB off to the side if that helps narrow down the search.

Looking for advice How can I adjust playback speed for Realistic SPC-35?

Hi all! I just got this portable cassette player (Realistic SCP-35) and it's playing great but just a *smidge* too slow. I've only ever used a non-portable cassette player that worked perfectly right out of the box, so I have no idea how to go about fixing this.

I saw a few mentions in other posts that this model was super easy to adjust the speed on by adjusting the potentiometer, but I have no idea what that looks like or how to adjust it. Could anyone tell me how I could fix this to play faster?

I included some pictures of the back with the cover removed.

Looking for advice How do you replace the (2) belts on a Teac W-800R?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Got ahold of a Teac W-800R for relatively cheap (10$), however I am not very good with electronics repairs (soldering etc), whenever I try playing a cassette through it, it makes a grinding noise, also the spindles don't move at all, leading me to believe it needs a new belt (considering this is a 90's model, this is more than likely).

HOWEVER, there is no information on how to repair these/replace the belt, any information would be helpful!

Looking for advice Trying to restore a yard sale find (Electrophonic solid state cassette tape recorder model ZK-1902)

So i got this electrophonic cassette recorder from a yard sale about a month ago for a couple bucks, I was hoping it worked since it looks mint, and it does for the most part besides one issue, which is why I'm here.

The take up reel used to have a soft foam tire on it that's used when it's normally playing or recording a tape, however because this has been sitting for 40 years, it has since disintegrated.

The third image shows that the take up reel looks like nothing on it, and the fourth and fifth image show my attempted replacement, I've gotten it to work sometimes, but it's nowhere near perfect, so i wanted to share my findings here for any assistance or advice, since i can't find fuck all about this specific recorder online.

Thank you for reading :D

Looking for advice First Time Buyer

I just bought a tape online for an album I really liked since no cds were made. Problem is I only own a discman...... I thought I'd ask for some advice on here from people who actually know about these things because I have not the slightest clue. I'm looking to get a portable cassette player! Preferably a walkman. I wanted some advice on what models to look at. Thank you very much!!!!

Looking for advice Durabrand am/fm cassette recorder issue: Play button not working

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I bought this Durabrand radio/cassette recorder. Only problem is it doesn't play. When I press the Play button nothing happens, even when I have a cassette in there. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Perhaps it's too sticky for the mechanism to move down? All the other buttons work. And (once in a blue moon) when I press the Play button the mechanism will VERY slowly go down and start spinning. It'll take like 1 minute to go down and start spinning, but it doesn't happen all the time.

Looking for advice Resources for buying genuine Tapes online?

Hey there,

I just got back into cassettes and I'm loving it (It's a lot of fun! :D).

I was looking for cassettes online. However it appears that there are a lot of bootlegs out there. Like, I can find cassettes of current and popular music. Pretty sure that they must be bootlegs.

Is there a place you can verify if a cassette actually was pressed at all?

Kid is in middle school wants to carry around a cassette player as cd players are too bulky.
What do we think the chances are this will work and not need a belt replacement (I have two of my own that need this)
