I actually based this off a faux Batman cover I made years ago. Those characters were drawn in pencil and inked/colored in photoshop. In this case I just redrew all the characters in photoshop. The vintage colors and texture effects are done via Debaser from TrueGrit.

Hey everyone! I’m also a colorist from time to time and happy to share this comparison spread from the first pages from ‘The Children’s Friend’ by both the talented Fraser in the script and Brian Balondo in the art. 

Colorwork itself is a beautiful task I carry on with by accompanying those others who develop what I usually do foreground, that’s either illustrating commission work or writing self-owned projects. I wouldn’t say it’s easier but it’s actually helpful to gain a different perspective of what I do as an illustrator and also diminishes the ego a little by growing a side skill. 

Hopefully I’ll have many similar experiences in the future for I’m beyond grateful at this point to keep on encountering such nice teams to be part of.
