VENOM #1

u/FrequentBarracuda454 2d ago

This book was surprisingly good. Not a fan of the last two pages and what it means going forward as far as supporting cast but otherwise it was fun

I don't know if I like ir or not. I mean, it is Venom but all suddenly the avengers are already on his track. What I don't want to see is Edie and Venom portrayed as poor little things and looking to get respected. Overall, this first issue is ok

DNX #3

Just got caught up and this series has been pretty great, Vincitini's incredible art definitely helps

I am really enjoying this. Issue 2 brought some heavy emotion in the confrontation between Scott and Hank, and issue 3 delivered some great action with Ben Liu's epic demonstration of his powers and Magneto arriving to help his student. These pages genuinely had me smiling. My only minor complaint is how this issue landed in the reading order relative to the tie-ins. The second part of the Fantastic Four tie-in story won't ship for another two weeks but the main story is now well past it.

Ben and Magneto pannels were the best in this issue, I'm really interested in see how RIchards and Hank will deal with the latter moving foward

INFERNAL HULK VS FANTASTIC FOUR #1

3

u/ThaRemyD 3d ago

Had a little bit of trouble reading some of the panels in order, but overall a good issue. I’ve really liked the current hulk run so I’m pretty excited for the hulk event.

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

I find it interesting that the Infernal Hulk defeated the Fantastic Four. Overall, this comic is okay.

BATMAN BAD SEEDS STREETS OF GOTHAM #1

u/marvelknight28 3d ago

It was fun to see Tim be cool again but the ending confused me, I was under the impression that Bernard already knew he was Robin by now?

Also why was Tim shirtless, I don’t mind the fanservice but it was strange that the story starts off with his shirt missing and it’s just never brought up.

I was under the impression that Bernard already knew he was Robin by now?

That’s apparently what Fraction says, yeah.

Also why was Tim shirtless, I don’t mind the fanservice but it was strange that the story starts off with his shirt missing and it’s just never brought up.

Maybe they used Tim’s shirt to bandage the wound?

4

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

Bernard knew about Tim’s superhero life as shown in Megan Fitzmartin’s Tim Drake run.

3

u/marvelknight28 3d ago

Yeah but Fraction seems to writing him as unaware.

That was fantastic. Loved to see Duke getting something to do, probably the most action the guy got since his inception? Stuff like this really sells the dimensions of a city-wide catastrophe. And shows that Gotham's inhabitants are just built differently.

My favourite was probably the final one, because it was the funniest. Also the pure thought of having to work for Gotham's board of tourism and having to deal with PR after another bi-monthly catastrophe hit the city is equal parts depressing and hilarious.

Also hooray for Tim getting to be cool (and shirtless)!

I liked getting a chance to see what Tim is up to, but I really just do not buy him sitting on the sidelines while all of this is happening. If there is ever a reason for him to actively come out of retirement instead of just reaching to things he happens to come across, this is the time.

For the first backup, I like that two civilians named Lance and Joy get to eat food in the apartment. Overall, this backup is good.

For the second backup, I like that Duke Thomas saved Freddie and Beth’s lives from the plant monsters. Overall, this backup is good.

For the third backup, I like that the four kids tried to save Gotham from the plant monsters. Overall, this backup is good.

For the fourth backup, I find it interesting that Duke dealt with the TUCOs before he saved his life. Overall, this backup is good.

For the fifth backup, I like that Tim was able to defeat ninjas and save the people of Gotham, predicting that his forced and unnecessary romantic relationship with Bernard would result in them breaking up. Overall, this backup is fine.

For the sixth backup, I like that four people try to make a pitch about Gotham before seeing a giant vine caused them to get their pitch, making it super easy and barely and inconvenience. Overall, this backup is good.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1001

6

u/gosukhaos 3d ago

Two things about this issue. First, the pacing is so weird, the whole reveal has been built through two arcs but the whole resolution of this huge status quo change is going to happen in less then 2 issues because they have to build up to yet another crossover event

Second, just goes to show how little the editorial departments talk with each other. Sorcerer Supereme ended two months ago with Wanda resigning from the position but in this issue they couldn't even be bothered to put an editor note saying it takes place before Sorcerer Supreme #10

u/Osackpo 3d ago

Probably my favorite issue thus far in the Kelly run.

Man, Ravage should have been torment. Peter is being torment-ed by ravage. Thinking on this further, the entire story of ravage should have been in issue 1000. I think this would have made a compelling giant sized story culminating in either May's death or her remembering.

2

u/Acceptable_Sign_8708 2d ago

This is actually kind of amazing? As soap opera-y as Cormac started, Ravage has a great design, and the plot feels totally fresh, a big compliment for a book that’s now past 1000 issues. It’s also always great when a villain exists in the nexus that affects both Spider-Man and Peter. Solid MJ moment too. And I like that Ric is kind of a d*ck to Peter, feels realistic and grounded, not over the top.

Overall, Kelly is knocking it out of the park. As somewhat repetitive his plots can be (first long lost friend, now long lost cousin) I feel it all works because it ties into a consistent emotional
arc: Peter’s relationship with May. I would be shocked if this run doesn’t climax in Peter revealing he’s Spider-Man and I couldn’t be happier.

1

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

The only good thing about this comic is Peter talking to MJ about what’s happening to Aunt May. The okay things about this are Peter talking to Norman about Cormac and needing Wanda’s help with something. The rest of just him and Cormac about to have a fight. Overall, this comic is okay.

1

u/droopymaroon 1d ago

I’m actually really enjoying this arc. Hopefully the ending sticks the landing

DOOM PATROL #2

7

u/FlowerRoomLord 3d ago

Pretty good second issue. I can't help wonder if the tech billionaire's daughter is just bait to get rid of the Doom Patrol although that doesn't seem wise. Without that request to get her back the team would just be chilling at home. Rita seems very snippy which may be due to their current housing situation. Larry burying the cat was sweet lol.

6

u/CHPrime Elizabeth Ross 3d ago

I keep getting flashbacks to the TV show. The road trip with everyone squabbling, followed by a portal to the team's actual destination happened in the first season.

Otherwise, a pretty decent second issue. I've always liked seeing Rita's body dysmorphia play out ever since Giffin introduced it. The Villain's costumes are also pretty fun.

5

u/ThaRemyD 3d ago

Doom patrol has to be one of my favorite reads. Always a great dynamic on the team, leading to a lot of funny moments and quite a few gut punching ones.

0

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

I like that Cliff, Larry, and Rita were told by Niles whet to do before they revisited memories of their past, went on a road trip, encountered Warp, and were supposedly killed (except for Cliff). Let’s hope that Cliff will be relieved that Rita and Larry survived in the next issue. Overall, this comic is good.

X-MEN #39

5

u/ptbreakeven 3d ago

I thought this was great. The spotlight on John Greycrow really worked for me. His motivations were clear, it was brutal, and the interactions with Xorn kept it from being all heaviness. The art was a perfect fit and holy smokes the brutality from Glob!!

BATMAN BAD SEEDS GOTHAM CENTRAL #2

1

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

I like that Gordon, Espinoza, Bullock, and Stephanie Brown were able to save the people of Gotham from Zsasz and Anarky, with Zeller telling Zsasz that what she’s doing is voluntary work. Overall, this comic is good.

BATMAN AND ROBIN YEAR ONE DYNAMIC DUOS #3

2

u/Lsad12 3d ago

This is just good as it is, the art is peak, the story involves you. Love the action scenes and the cliffhanger each issue leaves for the next. And it is really fun to see Bruce dealing with his anger against Tetch

5

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago edited 3d ago

I like that, back in pre-Crisis Earth-One’s summer of 1955, Bruce was able to defeat the Mad Hatter and talk to Jim and Alfred about what’s going on, while Dick was able to save Selina’s life without using a gun to shoot her before Bruce picked Dick up from his work and talked to each other about what happened. Overall, this comic is excellent.

GENERATION X-23 #9

1

u/Environmental-Day862 Green Lantern 32m ago

Unfortunately, seems like it's going to be another unsatisfying ending for a book killed after 10 issues. Not nearly enough time to wrap up all the loose ends.

☹️

Was a fun book while it lasted though, and seems they will "show down" with X-Infinity. I'm sure both sides will retreat kicking their wounds, so maybe the story will pick up from there one day in the future...

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #2

5

u/FlowerRoomLord 3d ago

Everything about Mekt is triggering my spidey senses. I don't think he is evil and he could be genuine but I get the sense he's being manipulated. Is that Persuader Dawnstar?

Imra's meeting with the Emerald Empress was cool. There's the weird Sherman design that I love. I will say Sherman's work here is great but looks a bit rushed. You can tell they pretty much went into Legion after Batman: Dark Patterns with no breaks in between.

I think Williamson is doing a great job at balancing multiple characters and it helps that he seems to have a plot that's allowing them all to naturally converge on each other rather than figuring out six different ways to bring them all together.

So far Imra remains the most intriguing although Tenzil and Brainiac's dynamic is growing on me. Lightning Lad just seems to be a starry eyed boy so far and I hope it doesn't lead him into trouble.

3

u/B3epB0opBOP 3d ago

Is that Persuader Dawnstar?

Definitely

1

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

I like that we get to see how the Legion came to be. This includes Brainiac 5 and Matter-Eater Lass surviving on Earth, Mekt telling his siblings that he was trained and mentored by “Superman” (who’s actually Hank Henshaw) before he decided to train and mentor Garth, Rokk working in the mines and getting a job offer from Grimbor, Irma meeting the Emerald Empress, and Ayla joining the Persuaders. Overall, this comic is excellent.

2

u/ME24601 The Mod Wonder 2d ago

who’s actually Hank Henshaw

I assumed this was the case, but was this actually confirmed in this issue itself?

u/JingoboStoplight4887 2d ago

In a way, yes.

TEEN TITANS #2

1

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

I like that we get to see Jason train and mentor the Teen Titans and try and save a lot of youngsters from harm. This includes them talking about Eugene being desperate to get his powers back (even though we still don’t know his backstory and origins from before his debut as a hero in 2011), Lian wanting to find her own path, Fairplay wanting to spend time with his father, and Jason taking on the identity of Monty Malone (the son of Matchew Malone). Overall, this comic is excellent.

1

u/ThaRemyD 3d ago

Pretty good follow up issue. I like a few of the designs more than others, but overall they’re all believable.

BARBARA GORDON BREAKOUT #6

2

u/oomoepoo 2d ago

Still really good. I like the slowburn mystery and the introduction of Two-Face should make for some interesting developments. Though I do find it a bit weird that Bad Seeds isn't affecting the book... but maybe you can handwave it with "very secure prison" or "it's just not during Bad Seeds, given that is only one night?"

2

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

I find it interesting that many associates of the Batman Family get to work together, with Barbara dealing with guards and encountering Two-Face in the end. Overall, this comic is fine.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #21

3

u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago

I find it interesting that Jessica recruited many Lanterns to become the Alpha Guardians, while Guy dealt with Predator and John, El, Simon, and Keli (who should talk to the Lanterns about her trauma and her backstory from before she made her debut) had to free Jo and Katma from the Darkstars. Overall, this comic is fine, but it is a bit bloated.

How the heck is Nice House by the Sea not listed? Especially considering its the cycle finale!
