Caffeine is part of the bitter taste, no? Given caffeine itself is bitter.

I've actually never knowingly drank decaf coffee, though, so I can't really tell. But it just so happens that I actually bought a bag of decaf beans, so soon I shall find out!

It is, but it’s far from the only bitter compound in coffee, and especially darker roasts (i.e. the stuff you’ll usually get at a cafe unless it’s a speciality coffee shop) can be very bitter with or without caffeine.
