ah if smell is the appeal that totally explains why i hate it so much. As someone who can't physically smell my sense of taste is dulled but not gone and coffee has always tasted like shit to me.

One of the things that makes coffee a bitch is that there are MANY ways to make it wrong and result in a fluid that tastes like a grill grate, and not very many to make it taste good when consumed straight. To say nothing of the many kinds of coffee which all taste different and can also be unappealing to some. 

Of course, you might just not like coffee! And that's cool too.
