Do any girls have such concerns about “dishonesty” of push ups? No way, when did everyone become so puritanical?

I've heard guys say it's false advertisement. They should be thrown into a volcano imo

Right? So is makeup apparently. Like how is it my fault that you’re unaware that women’s eyelids aren’t naturally gold or that my inner eye isn’t naturally sparkly?

u/Aszshana 3d ago

They think that light make up (blush coloured lip stick, light eyeshadow, light foundation and blush) is how a women without makeup looks. So...

u/Blackfrosti 3d ago

It's so funny to see the videos guys make that's like "look at how hot this woman is without makeup, guys if your girl doesn't look like this, get rid of her" and the woman is just wearing a natural makeup look.

There was a specific funny one I saw recently of a guy who compared a photoshoot of literally Margot Robbie vs. a normal picture of her and the guy was talking about how "ugly" she looked without makeup and she's very pretty and clearly wearing makeup in both, but she's not glammed out with perfect lighting in the normal picture. Dudes are weird lmao

It turns out if men have any sort of charisma they end up seeing us without makeup and sometimes even naked, so its really a skill issue on the man's part x.x

Men use facial hair as a low effort makeup too.

u/pearlid 2d ago

Truth. I’ve been chin-fished. Strong Henry Cavill with and Tate brothers without. It was brutal.

u/47thCalcium_Polymer 2d ago

The guys with good facial hair are putting a good bit of effort into their faces.

Keeping facial hair off is the hard part. I started growing it out because I couldn’t be bothered to shave TWICE A DAY, to keep the clean shaven look. It grows incredibly fast for me for whatever reason.

u/Purple-Blueberry3721 2d ago

Not the same. Facial hair is natural. Makeup is artificial.

You can still argue those men are wrong but at least use reasonable arguments.

4

u/NonsphericalTriangle 2d ago

And yet, when women display their natural body hair, it's somehow a problem for a lot of men.

1

u/Purple-Blueberry3721 2d ago

That's a strawman. Those men who think makeup is false advertisement aren't pointing to literal gold eyelids as the thing they have a problem with.

You can still argue those men are wrong but at least don't strawmen them.

It was a joke….

Yeah what a gross commodification of dating. "False advertisement" Jesus I pray these people are alone forever

It's also reinforces the sentiment bigger=better, but I like em small. The problem isn't dishonesty - you don't even know what your date prefers so why bother satisfying clichés just be yourself. If someone doesn't like you for being yourself he isn't a good fit anyway.

*ahem.*

Anon approached the Great Philosopher and asks him, “Great Philosopher, are large breasts or small breasts better?”

The Great Philosopher sat in silence for a moment, and then commanded Anon to reach for his wallet.

“How much do you have in bills?” the Great Philosopher asked. Anon told him he had $30 in bills.

“Suppose you were to have $30 in coins as well, which would have greater mass?”

Anon told the Great Philosopher that it would be the coins, by a long way.

“But which,” the Great Philosopher asked, “would have the greater value?”

And Anon was enlightened.

I dunno, I think it's a good idea to represent reality up front, because any men that are going to have a problem with them "not being big enough" are men you want to filter out early anyway.

It's not like keeping them around a bit just for it to come up later is helpful.

A push-up bra is just presentation, like any other clothing.

Oh no my manicure hides the reality that my nails aren’t actually crimson cat eye what a lie I’m putting out there. It’s human nature to modify ourselves

Any bra hides the reality of my piercings. Is that false advertising too or maybe it’s just a fashion choice?

0

u/HappyToaster1911 2d ago

I guess its more like wearing fake muscles under a shirt, there is no one who has red nails naturally, but there are people with bigger boobs or more muscular

3

u/meltyandbuttery 2d ago

Should I not wear heels because they hide reality? Should a man not wear a baggy shirt so he doesn’t hide reality?

I guess I just see presentation is reality. If we all dress out of character are we really giving an accurate presentation of the people we are?

If a woman regularly wears extensions, why present to me a lack of extensions? If a man regularly grows out his beard, why shave it (or does facial hair work the other way?)

2

u/HappyToaster1911 2d ago

That would be a different case I think, if its their normal then its just normal to wear it on a date, this would be more about since its a date, someone wearing different clothes than normal to try and look different and "better"

3

u/meltyandbuttery 2d ago

But I guess my point is that a push-up bra is not inherently any more artificial than anything else. It really just seems we’re giving more importance and scrutiny than is warranted.

I’m sapphic and the thought of “true breast size” has never once crossed my mind. I’ve been with women of all breast sizes and “ooh if she were a cup size different this wouldn’t work” has never been a thing

Bluntly it feels like a way to blanket judge hypothetical women online for something that doesn’t (or shouldn’t) matter in the real world

0

u/HappyToaster1911 2d ago

At least in my view isn't about being a woman, the bra is just in question because its the thing that started the conversation, it would be about someone going out of their way to make their body seem different than normal to meet a possible partner.

In the end, its shouldn't be a big deal to neither of the people involved, but its just a behaviour that can be a bit weird

u/amortized-poultry 3d ago

any men that are going to have a problem with them "not being big enough" are men you want to filter out early anyway.

Men and women are both allowed to have physical preferences, it doesn't necessarily make them bad partners.

12

u/Metatality 3d ago

Agreed, but it's still a bad match up, I'm not advocating for throwing them in a volcano like the other person, but they should still both look for other people better suited to them.

9

u/amortized-poultry 3d ago

Oh I see, so you're saying thst if the man will have an issue with a set of breasts, it's best to get that out of the way early?

4

u/Metatality 3d ago

Yeah, and any other physical traits that you aren't really going to be able to change, just be up front about the situation.

Stuff like weight or hair is fairly changeable, so if you're hiding or misleading that as a temporary measure, but you're actually willing to change it, then sure go ahead. You can lose or gain some weight, you can cut or dye your hair, you can turn the illusion into reality if you want. Weight loss isn't easy, but it's certainly doable.

Stuff like eye color, skin tone, height, and breast/penis size are not changing without extensive surgery, which the majority of people either can't afford or aren't willing to take the risks and the recovery time. They're not really something anyone should plan around changing for the sake of your partners taste, nor should they expect anyone else to change such traits for them. If those don't line up with a person's tastes then it just isn't going to work out in the end, so you might as well know early.

Women lying about their bust or Men lying about their height as if the truth isn't going to come up fairly quickly in any actual relationship is just silly.

I also think a lot of people just repeat the tastes they were told they should like by popular culture and would have a much better time if they indulged in the broader experience of human diversity, but that's a whooooooole other conversation.

1

u/rekabis 3d ago

height

In terms of proportional body parts and a natural-looking height, this isn’t even possible with surgery. Those with dwarfism who get limb-lengthening surgery look like a howler monkey in terms of those limb lengths - comically short torso, long limbs. The main reason why it works for them is not to make them look better, but to make them more functional in a civilization where pretty much all infrastructure or machinery is geared to average height.

And the pain involved in those limb-lengthening techniques is immense. You literally have your bones broken - and kept broken - for many months at a time as the break is slowly teased apart so that bone is encouraged to grow in that gap. And the absolute best you can aim for is a bone that is maybe about 20% longer than before. The average is 12-18%. It’s not going to magically bring you up to the 6 feet of height (the 666 rule that is so popular among women these days) unless you were just shy of that in the first place.

I don't think it's correct that a person has a "true" appearance, and that any "enhancements" (e.g., clothes, makeup, padding, etc.) are completely extrinsic to that person. For example, a certain clothing or makeup style can look completely different between one person and the next. Their effect can vary wildly depending on the knowledge and skill of the wearer. Someone's preferences in terms of self-expression and self-identification can favor one style over another.

In that sense, it's almost silly to consider someone's "true" appearance their unadorned look. How often does a person present themselves like that anyway? It's just one variation of many that a person may have.

So yeah. Person "A" may think that Person "B" looks better than Person "C" when neither wears makeup. But "A" may think that "C" looks better than "B" when both wear the same (or even their respective best) makeup. "A" can decide whether the makeup or no-makeup look is more important to them, but the no-makeup look isn't inherently the best metric for which of them is "better suited."

u/PhilospohicalZ0mb1e 2d ago

Yeah, but choosing to date someone and then being weird about their body is lame.

1

u/baldrlugh 3d ago

It's one thing to have a physical preference.

It's an entirely different thing to have a problem with something that isn't your preference.

There's a significant overlap between people, men and women, who have a problem with things that aren't their preference, and people who make poor partners. The context here is just breast-padding, so men are the beholders. But the phenomenon remains true if you substitute men for women, and dress padding for cod pieces and broad-shouldered jackets.

u/Initial-Reading-2775 3d ago

Yes, but it is accepted with a grain of irony, no one really takes it as thing of being scammed or something.

19

u/possiblyyandere 3d ago

Dude come on you know that there's a large group of hateful incels out there don't be silly

3

u/Initial-Reading-2775 3d ago

Who cares about their opinion, they aren’t dating anyone anyway. Incels gonna incel.

1

u/possiblyyandere 2d ago

Because they are grown men who can vote in our elections... and they are very loud... have you never heard of the manosphere? I guess it doesn't matter when it doesn't effect you but me personally I despise misogyny.

1

u/NoYogurtcloset3429 3d ago

Its about as dishonest as acting like you'd normally go to a fancier restaurant

0

u/TheoRaan 3d ago edited 3d ago

It is false advertisement. It's also not a big deal. Both can be true. Like if a man wears boots with heels at a first date. Or someone wearing all black because it's slimming.

Yes it's false advertising but like.... Who cares?? Like any of this will matter if you actually like someone.

6

u/lastres0rt Last Res0rt 3d ago

Or God forbid we find it ~fashionable~ and want to fucking dress up a little for a good first impression.

Like if you don't appreciate the extra effort now, don't expect it later.

3

u/TheoRaan 3d ago

Exactly. Like for a lot of people, make up is a creative outlet. It's art. It's also like... Someone who cares about looking good? Like that's a good thing. A lot of people are slobs and it's a great filter. Plus like most people look better with make up on. So it's a win win for everyone.

For similar reasons I always tell men when putting their height on the apps or if someone asks them their height, to always put or say their height when wearing their favorite boots/shoes. Because realistically that's what they will be wearing most the times. They barefoot height is less important than their actual height with their shoes on.

I feel like they are mentioning makeup's potential to completely transform and change the appearance of someone and can easily disguise the natural form of the face which may surprise them when they see them later... first impressions are definitely important but it can make the whole thing feel like a lie.
