They just got me with this. Told me in person they'd cash out on sick, which I took note of because it's unusual, then they screwed me in the actual paperwork.
This is why you get everything in writing, don't accept offers before you have the contract before your eyes, and UNIONIZE if you can. Spoken words are completely worthless. Who's going to be able to prove it? You certainly won't.
I was interviewing for a new job and one of my stipulations was a four day work week. They agreed verbally but didn't include it in their offer letter. I mentioned this and they got very defensive, almost aggressive. They had also mentioned working five days a week as I got trained up, the red flags were clear they were going to try and bait and switch me. Towards the end they said I had to trust them, well I simply told them I have zero reason to trust you, hence why I want it in writing.
My last municipal job did this. The handbook wasn't clear so I asked hr in person and they said yes, then after I left they told me it doesn't get paid out due to some law back in 2013 that I guess I'm supposed to just know. Fuck that place. The most untalented, unprofessional, and unhappy people I've ever had the displeasure of working with who all would have gotten fired in 5 minutes in private sector.
