If you get 4 or more hours a month of sick time with unlimited bank, I'd suggest "getting a flu" every autumn for the sake of not having your benefits wasted if you ever change institutes. Obviously don't just waste it all, but over the years most people don't need 48-96 hours of sick leave each year.
And I say this as someone who's typically a die hard overtime/work ethic sorta person.
The system is rigged against people, so we gotta do what we can to take advantage of it.
It's implied that each work day is 8 hours, so jobs with 'decent' benefits typically get 1 day per month (8 hours of time), rolling over.
But sometimes it's higher or low. Much more often lower if you aren't in a cushy job.
That's IF you get hours and rollover. Lots of jobs give you like a flat 7-12 days per YEAR and if you take off too much after that, you either don't get paid at all - or you simply get fired.
And that's IF you--- yeah, you get it.
This is why so many jobs in the USA are temp. or part time jobs. Execs here want to penny pinch every available hour from their workers. I know people who have worked 70 hour work weeks with no benefits because they work 2-3 part time jobs, or have tons of side gigs.

I've had 1 place pay out sick leave, otherwise "don't use it!" 😤 Why do I have it then???? 🤦♂️
