I feel like Americans are brainwashed into believing that working a job serves some higher purpose. It’s fucking sad.

No, we just have no choice. If you don’t have a job, you become homeless because safety nets are practically non existent. And our whole society here demonizes homeless people. The only homeless people noticed or remarked on are the chronically homeless, many of whom are drug addicts, some of whom turned to drugs after becoming homeless to cope with the misery of it. There’s an invisible group of homeless, couch surfing, living in cars, etc.

The propaganda combined with a fear tactic of “you don’t want to end up like that” is very effective. Complain about your job? Get told “at least you have one.” Complain about your living expenses/rent? Get told “at least you have a place to live”

It’s a fucking mess.

Thanks. Most of us want to change it. But collective action isn’t very effective when the government supports oppression of workers and the cost of dissent is so high. There’s marches and protests but those are mostly useless. It’s something people do to feel like they have power. It’s a useful tool of control because it lets people feel like they’re doing something without changing anything

I’m pretty sure our current government would mobilize the military against its own people. Already happened a few times. But we’re getting there. Things are getting unliveable for too many people
