Greetings r/discgolf!
This is your weekly mail call thread.
Post pictures of your new plastic before you take it out and throw it into a tree on the weekend.

I am relatively new to the game and have spent the past year learning what I like and do not like. My wife has recently shown interest in the game. I do not have a huge collection of discs. She is not the most athletic person and I’m not sure where to help her get started. I predominantly throw MVP. She will have a low arm speed and her release is inconsistent, but she is learning. Would love to buy her like 5 or 6 discs that she can focus on learning how to throw. Thank you in advance for all recommendations.

My personal favorite is probably GMC. Such clean and well thought out course design with varied hole styles. I think Lynchburg (Ivy Hill/New London) is probably the best at showcasing the strength of all the pros though. I also miss the Beast so much, sad it had to go.

With our days getting shorter, how does everyone play at/after sunset? What are the best glow in the dark discs, and, alternatively, what are other accessories/ways to play glow in the dark disc golf?
TYIA!

I’m just curious about people’s thoughts who have watched disc golf for more than the last few years. I just watched hole 4 round 2 of the Powerball Cup and 3/4 of the card had great drives that landed on the green but two of those skipped or rolled OB. Sometimes it seems like the super tight OB lines punish an uncontrollable outcome of a shot, if that makes sense. I watched a 2018 tournament and it was funny how little OB was involved, but it was also obvious how far the competition has progressed.

@u/sixsideddiscs I have that thunderbird. This one is mine. We probably bought them from the same shop at around the same time. Also my favorite disc. 300’ on a rope with a gentle fade to 350. Absolutely butter in the hand it flies through any wind like it wasn’t even there.

Anyone have experience with the takeover discs from Innova? I'm a bit confused and not as plugged into disc releases anymore. It seems to me like a lot of the discs are the same discs as the tour series discs for the players (same mold and plastic at least), but I'm wondering if they fly the same, or are from different runs and potentially fly different? I'm particularly wondering about the Philo Destroyer and Sexton Firebirds (already got the "stock" 2026 Sexton, but have some rewards points that I'm thinking about using and I'm debating getting the takeover version). I'd be happy to hear about the other takeover discs as well, if anyone has recommendations!
Also, as a side note, I ordered the takeover Calvin Destoryer a couple weeks ago, and from the couple of throws I've had with it, I think this is the closest they've gotten to the 2021 Heimburg halo destroyers. They're still available on the pro shop brand new for significantly less than any used 2021 I've found in the last year or two. Might be worth picking up if you want a backup or two, or if you want to see what the 2021 hype was/is all about.

All of these “male performance enhancement” commercials are making watching disc golf pro tour events with the family very hard to do. They’ve gotten more “explicit” in their content. This has to be YouTube’s move to get me to pay to go add free.

So I’m from NH and I went on a trip to Florida at a small airport in Portsmouth. I thought I would bring a few discs to play the courses near Fort Meyers. Some of the courses have water hazards with alligators, so I thought I’d bring my telascopic 20 ft retriever. Unfortunately it was not allowed through security in an overhead luggage bag. Be warned to check a bag if you want to bring a Max Distance Retriever!

I have the 2025 one. It is not stable at all. How are the 2024 and 2026 one? Is the 2024 bright enough?
Edit: Is one of those two runs (2024,2026) more stable than the 2025 run?

What was it like playing in the late 80s and early 90s? Where would you grab discs at? Did you shotgun beers on the course with the homies or was it usually strictly business? Did people think you were weird? Regale me with your stories! I want to know what it was like. Share pics if you have them!

Figured I would try and get some reps in on my break, haven't broken anything yet 😁

Recently read a post about intentionally gripping the disc until it rips out of your hand, rather than releasing your hold to let it fly. This has noticeably improved the snap I get, thus spin rate and distance. The downside is that I’ve now been having an issue with late release far too often. Wondering if anyone has a good tip or cue for correcting this? Is this likely a problem that originates from rounding? I figure if I’m pulling straight through the disc shouldn’t be releasing far right (RHBH). Maybe it’s something that I’ll naturally figure out in time, but it would be nice if my new and improved snap didn’t lead to my disc to careen off into the woods. I already do that enough.

Hi Everyone,
I am having the worst putting in my 10+ years of playing. For a year now, I cannot get a clean putting release no matter what I try. I get so much wobble, grip locks, you name it. Any advice to help this? Thank you.

I’m very interested in what yall have to say. I’m not I. Any way connected to this side of disc golf and I don’t know where to get this type of news or rumors from 😂

I’m having possibly the most embarrassing form problem right now, which is that I can’t throw midranges at all. My long and short drives are consistent and at a distance that I’m happy with, but I keep giving up par on anything between 180’ and 250’. I have large hands, which may be part of the problem. Basically no matter what I do, every throw either turns over extremely hard or is released early. I’m sure it’s likely something to do with my timing. Anyone else experience this before?

Going to be in Central Oregon near Terrebonne/Bend next week and will only have the opportunity to play one course in the area. Which one is the must play?
I’ve had my eye on Coyote’s Den and the Bend Pine Nursery as potential options. Also, is altitude a significant factor in building my travel bag when used to Indiana-based courses?

Has anyone tried this measurement app or played the distance game?

Innova's Factory Store F2 bonus disc this week (free disc with 3+ discs ordered, factory seconds or not) is posted as a Halo Star XCaliber (12/5/0/4) with code "xpertswordsman".
There is a Halloween-themed stamp of a hooded ghoul figure. See Bluesky https://bsky.app/profile/proshop.innovadiscs.com for an image.
Note that you have to be logged in to the Innova ProShop to see the F2 code have any effect, and that accumulated rewards points can't be used in the same order as an F2 Friday bonus disc. These F2 codes usually are posted on Friday after noon Eastern, 9am Pacific time, and are good on Friday.
Yes, I post these here routinely on Fridays when the code is released and when I don't see that the F2 info has already been posted here by someone else. Many people find this helpful and I appreciate the positive feedback. No, this is not an ad.
