Disc Advice Disc Recommendations for my Wife
I am relatively new to the game and have spent the past year learning what I like and do not like. My wife has recently shown interest in the game. I do not have a huge collection of discs. She is not the most athletic person and I’m not sure where to help her get started. I predominantly throw MVP. She will have a low arm speed and her release is inconsistent, but she is learning. Would love to buy her like 5 or 6 discs that she can focus on learning how to throw. Thank you in advance for all recommendations.

Look at the Latitude 64 easy to throw series. You'll want some lightweight discs with some turn -2 or -3 is a decent place to start. Look for weights from like 150 to 160 grams

Latitude 64 also has their Opto Air series, should she need some stupid light discs... And OP would be remiss if he's taking her to learn on windy days.

So funny you said this. We wanted to go today, but I saw 20mph wind gust and said let’s try tomorrow lol

The Zero Gravity Fuse is a great example of this. Light weight and flippy is great for lower arm speeds. They are a more influenced by wind.

Beginner female and this is also my go-to! It was one of the recommendations when I went to a local shop for new discs. If possible, I definitely recommend going to a disc golf shop - workers there are usually very knowledgeable and it's nice to get a feel for the plastic / disc in hand.
I also primarily use Luna for a putter (was another recommendation) and agree with general tip people always say about focusing on using putters when learning to throw first.
*edit: spelling and grammar 🤦🏻♀️

My girlfriend has been looking for a better putter, I'll definitely have her try a Luna!

Good to know. I actually just got a Luna in the last tournament I played in. I will add it to her bag.

My wife threw my discs for a bit then decided she wanted her own. I made her pick a putter, mid, and driver and she picked purely on looks. She's in this for the vibes and the walk in the park.

3 disc recommendations from a few brands:
Innova: Aviar, Mako3, Leopard
Discmania: P2, MD1, Essence, also possible: Link, Origin, Essence
Axiom: Proxy, Hex, Crave
Discraft: Roach, Buzzz, Mantis
Latitude64: Pure, Fuse, River
Etc.
I have noticed with beginners that even three discs can be too many. They most likely will play with putter and mid. Or just either of them. Even the most understable fairway drivers are too much for beginners.

Mine likes a Streamline Drift and Discmania Essence so far, and the grippier the plastic the better. Decent results with a Discraft Meteor as well but some grip issues. Apparently fairway drivers are easier to grip with slightly longer nails. Something more understable and/or lighter weight is usually the way to go, unless their natural release angle has lots of anhyzer.

The general rule for new players is to start with understable discs to fight the fade that comes from not throwing very hard/far with improper technique…
As she improves, this will change but to start: Axiom Paradox, MVP Impulse, lightweight relay or rhythm, and a putter that feels comfortable in her hand. If she also throws forehand, grabbing something more neutral or slightly overstable may help if she ends up turning her forehands into rollers accidentally

My wife really likes the Innova stingray and the Kastaplast Berg. My wife has nails she gets done every week so she can’t grip the discs as well as someone should.

FWIW: I was a ridiculously out of shape ~35yo dude when gifted a bag of five or six really nice discs for my first bag.
The very first thing I was told to throw on my first outing was a Paradox, and it was decent. (I also hated my Crave at first.)
The first disc I went and bought on my own, and immediately fell in love with was a Champion Mako 3.
When getting my GF at the time into frolfing last year she loved the Electron Firm Proxy I gave her... But honestly the Electron Firm Envy suited her better as she had a natural anhyzer releass so it ended up giving her these little baby flex throws to about 75ft or so.
You could also try giving her a Watt or a Pilot.

Proxy, Hex, Leopard3 or Mint Lobster or similar understable 5-6 speed. Add in another throwing putter (Envy is my choice) and you have a great starter bag. Imo.

Streamline Ascend it is so easy to throw for beginners.

Agree. I started playing just over a year ago and I get some of my best throws with an Ascend

Heat, Orbital, Diamond, Virus, Impulse, Valkyrie, lightweight Wraith, DX destroyer. All of these are in my wife’s bag. She can throw 300 on a good day with some elevation on the tee.

Glitch, Watt, and then whatever putter she likes in hand
Midrange Paradox, uplink, Detour
Driver Fission 6-7 speed. Signal is great and the new Cypher when its not on proton will work well.

You can't go wrong with Paige's discs - Fierce, Sol, Joy, Passion and Drive. Get the Passion and Drive in Zlite.

Zero gravity discs from latitude 64. My wife has gotten some distance out of the diamond

I like mvp fission plastic for low weight discs, with the gyro more of the weight gets concentrated at the rim so it's really easy to throw.

Also lat64 river in 160g class, perfect as the single driver in a 5-6 disc bag imo.

I've started multiple people with an Opto Pure and Opto Fuse from Latitude 64. From the MVP family, a premium Proxy and Detour, especially if you can get them a little lighter is the high 160g range will do the same job. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a driver at first, but the Diamond is the quintessential starter driver for a reason.

Diamond, Jade and Maiden is what my wife throws. The drivers are in the mid to high 160’s and the putter is low 170’s

I got my GF a bunch of lightweight discs. She threw them and figured out which 3 or so work best for her right now. She's sticking to 2-3 discs a round as getting comfortable with a few discs is better for her game than trying to figure out 10+ discs.
Some rounds she just throws a putter and has a great time.

If you have a nearby shop, go find a putter she likes the feel of,both a -1, 1 and can be near max weight. I personally love the Pure for a good all around putter.
I'd also find a good mid, neutral to understable that she likes the feel of. My personal choice is a Mana or Lobster, but the Mako3 is legendary.
I also love the Buzzz in baseline. It'll season quickly but hold a reasonable amount of stability.
I'd stay away from Drivers until she's into the sport. But she can always try yours. There aren't special discs for women

A glitch is pretty versatile and forgiving.
