Just pulled my childhood spin and fly TARDIS out of my storage unit. Threw some fresh weathering on it and repainted the windows and I’m pretty happy with the result. Let me know what you think. Inside has a picture of my homemade childhood console room. Fun to think that version of me is flying April’s in this TARDIS somewhere, seeing the stars🥲

Discussion This scene from Aliens of London is pretty funny but also really sad and really shows 9s PSTD and dealing with all the death from the Time War

In this scene Micky points out that's there's a lot death surrounding the Doctor, this is a repeated point from Clive back in Rose when showing Rose the pictures of the Doctor. The Doctor rebuttals with sarcasm.

While this is pretty funny, it's also really sad. Why would The Doctor do something and in fact do it immediately. Because The Doctor doesn't want to reminded of that fact. The Doctor both before and during the Time War was responsible for a lot of death.

I know Aliens of London and WW3 are "you love it or hate it" but i feel this scene is unrated and need more attention : r/doctorwho

adding on this scene from the next episode and the Pig getting shot and The Doctor forced to make tough decision at the end of WW3 and it really comes together.

And by the end of Series 1, The Doctor has to face it again once more and accepts it's the end but we of course that didn't happen.

If you get pass the farting stuff there's a lot meaty subtense in those two stories that helps build the big picture of Series 1's themes and subtexts.

Discussion Where did the "behind the sofa" cliché come from?

OK, some background if you're unfamiliar/not British: starting back in the Classic Era, and carrying slightly through to NuWho, UK media loved to drop soundbites about Doctor Who being "so scary" that kids would "watch from behind the sofa".

However, in most UK homes, the sofa tends to be right against a wall - there is no "behind" it to watch from! EDIT TO ADD: at least anecdotally - '80s kid here, and neither I nor anyone I knew had a sofa that wasn't against a wall!

So where and how did this cliché originate, over something like, say, "you'd watch it from under the blankets!" or "you'd hide behind a cushion!"?

Discussion Most shocking companion death

Out of all the companions who died in the show, which one shocked you the most?

Speaking for myself, I always found Adric's death quite shocking. I just wondered what other fans think. I look forward to reading your comments.

Discussion Harold Saxon in series 2 (2006). Spoiler

Hello, this is my first-time ever posting on here. I've recently re-watched the series 3 finale, and a line of dialogue got me thinking. The Master/Harold Saxon was on Earth for 18 months. The first easter-egg of him is on the newspaper front-page in 'Love and Monsters', and his name is said for the first time in 'The Runaway Bride'.

So I was wondering, what was the Master doing during 'Army of Ghosts'/'Doomsday'. Do you think he tried forming an alliance with the Cybermen? And how would he react to millions of Daleks flying over London?

Discussion Kinda bummed out there’s no foreseeable future of doctor who.

I’m currently finishing up S4 and come to find out- it’s stopped running. What the heck? :/

Does anyone know the fate of this or is it all just sorta up in the air?

I recently saw on Twitter that “this was the reason doctor who ended” or something along those lines and it was a rose doctor. I wouldn’t mind a Rose Doctor, but I guess I say that now as I’m finishing up S4- I’ll revisit this opinion when I’m up to date.

I hope this show gets picked up again so my kids can watch it one day. It’s so old and yet no future feels kinda wrong?

:/

Misc My pitch for new Doctor Who

Just a bit of fun. But can’t get the idea out of my head so figured I’d post it somewhere.

—
Pick up immediately after the previous regen, hold on it a second, then into another regen! And a flurry for faces, some of which we recognise. Eventually settles on one. The next doctor? We’re still not sure. They aren’t sure.
The arc to play out over a few episodes is that something or someone is trying to constantly trigger the doctors regen to use up his second cycle. The tardis for its part is trying to influence the regen to pick a personality suited to the next threat.
At the end of each story, the doctor would again regenerate. The ultimate goal is can they figure out the cause before it hits the limit.
The idea of this format would be to let lots of different actors play the role (maybe attract some names who are up for doing a single episode?) and lots of writers write for the show.
Eventually once the arc is done, maybe the final “new” Doctor is someone who played it during this arc and they were the “real” regen trying to force its way through.

This would have the added bonus of making “some” sense of the Billie Piper regeneration. If they choose to they could try and retcon the Susan appearances to be her sending messages back trying to guide the Doctor to their proper regeneration.

Question Why does the Doctor want to be ginger?

I was reading some DW fanfic and it occurred to me I don’t actually know why the Doctor is so adamant about wanting to be ginger. is there a canon reason and if not, why do you think that is?

Discussion Do you think this would help breathe some life back into the show?

Just an idea I had: Make the Doctor forget all of their past lives.

They remember who they are to themselves, their values and their history on Gallifrey— but everything else, everything from William Hartnell to Ncuti Gatwa, is now gone from their mind.

The next time they meet The Daleks or the Cybermen or UNIT or Torchwood or anything will be, to the Doctor, for the first time.

A few benefits to this, as I see them:

  1. It would remove the baggage from the character of The Doctor. Their personal history has started to loom too large in my opinion, and I think this would allow us to retain that history without it informing what’s happening on screen. The Doctor would be aware that there’s this legendary figure called The Doctor that they apparently are, but would have no memory of that.

  2. It would allow The Doctor (and the audience) to have a sense of discovery again.

  3. The show can maintain its continuity without being bound by it. If something that previously appeared shows up, audiences who know can recognise it and be excited, but if an audience member isn’t aware it will function as a new discovery.

Crucially— don’t make this a short term plot. I think they should not regain their memories for as long as possible, and maybe they should never regain it.
