How else could I have handled this situation, my intention was not to make her even more upset.
I ordered food, when my driver got to my street she called me, immediately was raising her voice, she was at a red light and couldn’t figure out where my apartment was, saying she was on a dangerous street. I tried guiding her over the phone, but she kept talking over me, yelling, and eventually, I told her if she could please calm down. I know we all hate being told to calm down, so maybe that wasn’t the best choice of words. But I wasn’t trying to disrespect her. I was trying to help her find my apartment, but I couldn’t get a word in. She ended up hanging up on me. Not even a minute later she was in front of my apartment, but she was on the phone with I’m assuming DoorDash support saying I told her to calm down, that she wasn’t going to drive around in circles wasting gas, and that they needed to cancel my order. At that point I just went back inside I wasn’t going to argue with her about it. At the end of the day I do feel bad about it but what else could I have done differently?
For context, my apartment complex isn’t hard to find. There are only about 100 units, no gate, and it’s the only apartment complex on the street. Other than the fire department, there’s literally no other address on that street. It’s also not a heavily trafficked road, and I’ve never had an issue with other delivery drivers finding it. I’m not expecting anyone to magically know where every apartment is, and I don’t want a driver trying to navigate a phone call while driving unsafely.
But from my perspective, I was trying to help, but there is only so much I can do when someone is yelling from the second I answer my phone and just keeps talking over me.
