Who says it's yaoi? With dragon biology and society completely unknown, we have no way of determining if it's a man, woman, male, female or something that doesn't the gender and sex binary. Similarly, we have no way of knowing what's under that armor so the knight could be any gender and sex you imagine.
And I'm fine with interpreting it as gay, I just wanted to be sure that you had picked up on what other people where discussing with how it's ambiguous and has no one interpretation, so everyone can make their own.
