Title: Call That Never Came

The title might sound misleading, but it’s not.
I’ve spent years as a digital artist and occasionally a charcoal wanderer but somehow, oil paints always slipped out of my grip. After countless failed attempts, false starts, and “maybe later” moments… I finally picked up the brushes for real.

This is my first actual oil painting.
A beginning that took years to reach.

Hope you enjoy this new chapter with me.

Jaxx (12 y/o) won some blendable markers at a silent auction fundraiser last week and has been ripping through his sketchbook with them. He wanted to share as well as ask for tips if anybody else knows how to use these things.

I just think his art is neat, it has a style to it.

I made an ink version for a purchase someone wanted of my charcoal drawing and it made me curious what others prefer.

showcase Day 1 of learning to draw

A coffee mug ☕

I want to be creative again. Between my wife, kids, and career, it’s tough to find time to sit down and learn something new. I’m hoping to carve out 10–20 minutes a day to draw something and see if I can get a little better each time.

It’s all made in charcoal. I used charcoal pencils, compressed charcoal and greasy charcoal crayon.

I never thought someone would just come, take my art and feed it to AI…It is not being inspired and it is not showing appreciation…I am disgusted, disappointed and feeling disrespected…

Now that I have the sketch fleshed out I feel a little more confident in the effectiveness of this idea as a painting. 🙂 plus I’m finally using a sketchbook again for the first time in years!

Obviously cannot show the full drawing. It’s one of my larger drawings, and took 5 sessions, totaling 20 hours of work.

Tried painting this little white duck I saw in a photo. The ripples and reflections were tricky but really fun to work on. Took me a couple of sessions to get the water to look alive without overworking it.
