I know you get a lot of bleach questions and I have read old posts and now know dyeing over a bleach stain usually doesn’t work, but I’m just wondering if anyone can help me out re. oxygen bleach (Oxi Action powder). Is it the same thing in terms of how the ‘stain’ works by the time you’ve ruined an item of clothing with it? I don’t know what exactly happened here but I think my mum left concentrated oxi action slurry on the front for many many hours. It’s taken on that characteristic pink tinge of bleaching but unlike a normal bleach bleach stain the edges are very diffuse. I bought a black machine dylon, but the jumper is 67% polyester and 33% cotton on the body (and different amounts on the ‘rib’ - not sure if that means stretchy cuffs/bottom, and also the pocket) so wouldn’t be expecting it to go black. I had hoped that between the existing marl and the new grey/black it would disguise it though? I don’t care exactly what colour it ends up although I really liked the marl.
Would I be better trying to use the colour stripper stuff on it all first, or getting a specific poly dye, or both? Or completely bleaching it back to white and then dying, or would that be impossible and just fry the material? I don’t really have anything to lose with the sweatshirt now, but don’t really want to spend nearly the cost of replacing it on dye that doesn’t even work anyway. I already have the dylon though. I definitely don’t want to tie dye it (not that I don’t love tie dye but not for this!).
