Help - Roland Overhit Troubleshooting Help

I have a problem with my snare that I'm having trouble fixing. My module is an old Roland TD-9, and the snare is an old Tama 14" x 6" A-to-E conversion. It has been giving me intermittent double hits for a while now and my own lack of competence is probably part of the problem.

I've played with the sensitivity and threshold settings with limited effect, and I'm starting to wonder if I even comprehend what those adjustments are doing. I did replace the main piezo a few years ago, but my problems persist. The worst of the double hits seem to occur in one specific area

Should I just look for a replacement, or are there specific troubleshooting steps that I might not have tried?

Grab the manual: https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/td-9/owners_manuals/57a834cb-cc64-4033-aa9d-599281f962d4/

to know how to get to the settings on the module, but you're looking at most likely changing ReTrigger Cancel and Mask Time.

I'll give it a shot. I'm guessing those are under 'Advanced' settings.

Retrigger and mask time are two big culprits for A2E. Ask me how I know 😩 lmao. Everybody knows sensitivity and threshold for the most part but those other two, and even other settings on more advanced modules is something that's not as known.

What's sad is that I've been hammering away at this kit for over a decade and I still forget that I have a manual (downloaded and printed, even), and I still forget to RTFM sometimes before looking for help. I'm gonna attribute this to old age.

And advanced settings are already helping. I've only tweaked the Retrigger Cancel a bit, and it has pretty much solved the issue. The manual explains things pretty well.

Men don't read manuals haha. No worries, your post may help other people in the future so chalk it up as a win. Glad to hear it's helping you though! Nothing more frustrating than trying to play and getting all those weird extra hits that make it seem like you're screwing up. Rock on 🤘
