Rip Google sheets, gone but not forgotten

This is awesome. My only critiques:
It would be cool if the Home Page (and maybe even the rankings page) incorporated the r/FCS Top 25.
It would be cool if you could filter the Home Page for just matchups involving the Top 25 (as in, if it includes at least one Top 25 team) or by conference.

Oooh, those are both good ideas!
I’ll have to think on how incorporating those best might work and not feel clunky, but will definitely play around with it!

Do you help the run the sub’s top25 polling? I’m kinda curious how hard that is to set up and run because I was thinking someone should run a user ranked top15/25 G6 poll on r/cfb … if you don’t, just ignore me, but I think Google sites just made me think of it

I built out and ran the Top 25 until last season, but it’s now in the hands of the much more competent [u/Perryapsis](u/Perryapsis).
We’ve talked about trying to get that off of google forms, but frankly it’s such a simple tool for submissions that it’s hard to justify pulling off of it.
As for a G6 poll, you’d have to touch base with the mods over in [r/CFB](r/CFB). I know it’s been floated in the past but I think the consensus to date has been not to. I think (but don’t take this as truth) it has to do with trying to avoid making the G6 come across as “less than”. But I don’t know, they might be willing to entertain it ̄_(ツ)_/ ̄

Obviously won't update from last year's final rankings until the pre-season poll results come out tomorrow, but took your first suggestion and integrated it in. Not sure I'm going to bother with the top 25 for now (would just keep adding to the scrolling and I'm not sure it buys that much compared to just having the rankings listed in the FCS matchups section).
But let me know what you think!

This definitely helps, even for just answering the “are there any big time matchups this week?” as I quickly scroll through the list of games.
Thanks!

11.5 points is crazy for a team that hasn’t named a QB and doesn’t have one that has attempted a pass in college.

Would agree (definitely don’t take into account minutia like roster flux in real time) but Vegas seems to be sitting at the same spread with that additional insight (I’d assume) taken into account.

-25.5 for und but only 48 points is surly a choice.

u/passwordisguest /r/FCS • Gulf Star Aug 24 '26
Vegas numbers I’m seeing have it -27.5 with 49.5 total 🤷

u/headofthetable2024 Aug 24 '26
Actually opened at 24.5 which I thought was too low as I figured 28.5

If there isnt 50 plus points score between the teams i will be shocked

SDSU -50 vs Stetson is a pretty big number. I think the final spread will end up in the low 40's.

This is cool, thanks for putting this together!
I do think us being ranked #127 of 128 in the FCS and 3-plus-score underdogs against basically our entire schedule is probably not what you intended, though.

u/passwordisguest /r/FCS • Gulf Star Aug 24 '26
lol, yeah. Turns out it was pointing to Illinois college for one metric when rating y’all. Should be fixed now (and I’ll have to do a deep dive later to make sure there aren’t other issues like that)

Do this have your prediction for each game or do we use the matchup tool to get a idea where you are for each game?
3
u/passwordisguest /r/FCS • Gulf Star Aug 24 '26
There is an official prediction for the upcoming week of games, a future prediction for every game for the following weeks past the current, and a matchup predictor tool that provides a prediction for any matchup you’d like to game out.

Rip google sheets

u/passwordisguest /r/FCS • Gulf Star Aug 25 '26
Google Sheets kinda lives on! Google Sites apparently doesn’t allow me to upload csv files, so I have to save my backend outputs onto sheets for the website to call them up.
Which frankly is a huge pain in the ass still and prevents the website from automatically updating when I run the backend. But still way less convoluted and manual than what it used to take to get things outputting each week before.

I don't know if I want to say we cover the spread or not.
We SHOULD, but this being week 0 leaves me with too many question marks to say we cover a 21 point spread

So based on the enormous amount of complaints (i.e. my own) about running the /r/FCS Sportsbook in Google Sheets, I finally sat down and tried to re-code the backend and then set up a little website to host the thing.
It should work a bit better across platforms (mobile, computer, tablet, etc) then the previous version, and in general present a good deal more "refined" than before.
I've not set up all of the same functionality yet, but the base is there (including upcoming week predictions, rankings as it sees things, future predictions, a matchup tool to predict any two teams, etc). I'm going to make sure I also add previous season results from model, cross conference result tallies, and things of that nature.
If anyone has any feature requests, comments or suggestions for improvement, or just wants to yell at me about how you don't care and this is dumb, hit me up!
