[Guide] Level 17+ SPROUT PSA

This may seem obvious, but:

Please use your Vesper Bay Aetheryte Tickets that you are given at MSQ level 17 to fast travel to the Waking Sands.

(They look like envelopes in your inventory.)

Do NOT save them for some nebulous future. Use them. You have plenty. Save your sanity. Put them on your hot bar. Do not teleport to Horizon and run to Vesper Bay/Waking Sands. These tickets are a mercy gifted to you that many of your predecessors did not have. Do not squander this mighty gift <3

Just as reference for sprouts too, you are not going to run out of them. I use them basically any time I have to go to Western Thanalan and I still have like 40 left over

78

u/SamTheHexagon Dark Academia Aug 10 '26

Yeah, they really didn't want people hoarding them for no reason. I think most people who aren't using them just don't know how.

34

u/Denali_Nomad Aug 10 '26

I didn't realize I had them until post ARR. I've tried to use them all up since then with the odd times a quest sends me back there and still have like 10 left.

18

u/Aiyakiu Aug 10 '26

When I was a sprout I didn't realize I had them and got very used to the Horizon walk

5

u/Atourq Aug 11 '26

I’d also add this as a PSA to anyone returning after 2020 (release of 5.3 patch cycle). That’s roughly when these were introduced. I remember playing during that time and had many tickets left over because they gave them to me whilst I was towards the end of post-ARR.

6

u/shmixel Aug 10 '26

I used them all up running to Limsa for ocean fishing in the last mogtome event but it's still fine as long as you've unlocked all the ARR primals.

2

u/DongIslandIceTea Aug 11 '26

This. The main quests will eventually move to other areas of the game world and you'll have very little reason to constantly return there. You'll also unlock flying making the trip a whole lot faster even without them. When both of those happen and you have a hundred unused ones in your inventory just because "maybe I'll need them later", you'll feel dumb. You won't.

1

u/Bonavire [Sylbgara Baenjaegawyn - Midgardsormr] Aug 11 '26

I kept waiting to use them until arr was already over and just sold them all šŸ˜…

u/js_sfw Aug 10 '26

Back in my day, we walked through 2 feet of sand in the scorching hot sands of Thanalan! We didn't have no stinking shortcut teleports!

(except Limsa ferry)

The points that cost the full bar to sprint so casters could run freely while the physical dps couldn’t lest they have no resources to start the pull.

I fondly remember the macros begging for Spire or Goad. And there was a cross class ability that would replenish TP too and was basically mandatory to level the source class to like 45 I think, but I forget what it was.

2

u/Several-Shine7834 Aug 12 '26

Fuck over your monk friends tp and give them more skill speed

1

u/Clownorous Aug 11 '26

Just for anyone wondering about TP, this song demonstrates about TP very well. It's one of my favourite songs XD

"Couldn't you just fly, grandma?"

Flying? FLYING? HA! We couldn't fly! Even mounted we had to run, on the ground! And if we wanted to go faster we bought a riding map! AND WE WERE GRATEFUL!

2

u/sk8ordie345 Aug 10 '26

With my 2 hour load times on ps3. Those were the days

1

u/Kaellian [First] [Last] on [Server] Aug 11 '26

For reference, here is Western Thanalan. Ferry was at the far end.

1

u/charloettedorff Aug 11 '26

Up hill, both ways!

287

u/witchpixels Aug 10 '26

Also if you run out, it's faster to teleport to limsa and take the boat by the arcanists guild than to run from Horizon.

115

u/KrackedOwl Aug 10 '26

but then i can't ride the choco-porter :(

33

u/spazure Aug 10 '26

The choco-porter is when I get up to go grab a drink or hit the restroom!

2

u/dragonbornrito Aug 12 '26

The Ul’dah Chocobokeep asks me if I want to take a Chocobo Porter to Vesper Bay and I say ā€œyeah man, I wanna do itā€ and then go grab my favorite snack and drink.

35

u/GrahminRadarin Aug 10 '26

It depends on how fast your hard drive is, actually. With an SSD, that's faster, but with an older hard drive, running from horizon can be faster.

16

u/ellwell Aug 10 '26

Sometimes you’ll take the longer travel just to avoid having to click ā€˜confirm’ one more bloody time.

8

u/Amoura39 Aug 11 '26

... i love finding out and useful shortcuts way too late

i used to always swim from camp bronze lake to oakwood and only realized after like 6 months that there is a ferry to cross that huge body of water

6

u/Dragona_TNT Aug 11 '26

Omg

Now that is dedication o7

Reminds me of WoW and me trying to get from Stormwind to Gnomeregan before I learned about the tram. Boy was that an adventure…

1900 hours in the game and they are sitting right there still in my inventory...... Don't be like me.

14

u/SonniSummers Aug 10 '26

I’m at 17,000 hours still have mine tucked away on a retainer >.>

3

u/Zomby_Goast [Zesty Macaw - Behemoth] Aug 11 '26

Those didn’t come out till 5.3 and that’s almost 1/3 of all the time that has passed since then

39

u/ChaosApostle Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 10 '26

100% after ARR they become effectively useless, saving them for the future does nothing but waste time
-man who saved them for the future

12

u/understatedgrove Aug 10 '26

I guess if you are hunting around for B-rank monsters for ARR and you happen to get one in that zone? That’s about it though, yeah. Also if you are penny pinching and just want to reduce your final teleport cost by going from like Dawntrail zone>normally a 2000 gil teleport to horizon>teleport to uldah for like 170 gil.

Not great and takes a bit more loading time on your device, but might save you like 1500-1900 gil, depending. Depends how broke or stingy you are lol

10

u/therealkami Aug 10 '26

You can do ARR hunts/Blue Mage weeklies to buy Aetheryte tickets, then set an amount for them to be auto-used if a teleport goes over that amount.

4

u/understatedgrove Aug 10 '26

True! So using your waking sands teleport tickets to hunt down ARR hunts in the area is like a very slow ticket conversion over time lol

5

u/ThatBatsard Aug 10 '26

They've been rather handy for the ARR Hildebrand sidequests!

2

u/Mychael612 Black Mage Aug 10 '26

There are 1-2 instances in HW where they’re useful.

2

u/ChaosApostle Aug 10 '26

While i do believe you are just doing a "well actually" to me, I'm editing my comment anyways to reflect your new info

0

u/thefinalgoat ā™Šļø ā˜€ļø Aug 10 '26

On my alts I only managed to finally burn ā€˜em all with the Extreme ARR quests.

11

u/d07RiV Aug 10 '26

When I was level 17 I walked everywhere and used airships because aetherytes seemed too expensive.

5

u/Ivalice47 Aug 10 '26

Must be nice. I never got tickets lol

6

u/Asterie-E7 Aug 10 '26

Oooh that's a good advice, I was starting to go insane because of this Horizon to Vesper Bay trip. At least I just got the Chocobo to make it faster...

8

u/Cymas Aug 10 '26

Also you get more during the MSQ, so even if you think you'll run out, you won't.

3

u/kittykittyekatkat Aug 10 '26

I used them every single time I needed to go anywhere near Vesper Bay and I still have more than 40 left. Use them!!

3

u/addfase Aug 10 '26

Pray return to the Waking Sands.

3

u/Wulf-Silverfang Aug 10 '26

Hopefully this post will save the time and wallets of many sprouts

3

u/Geeker-ri Aug 11 '26

I somehow didn’t understand what these were until I was in HW. Thank you kind soul for the PSA so others won’t make the same mistake!

3

u/GameAssassin96 Aug 11 '26

Post Endwalker and I was not told this advice. Still have a small stack of vesper tp tickets consigned to my saddlebags

3

u/junberi1 Aug 11 '26

God, that run took up so much of my life a decade ago 🤣🤣

3

u/Amoura39 Aug 11 '26

[Do not take this post seriously] guess what everyone... vesper bay aetheryte tickets are a scam... there is no aetheryte in vesper bay! it's all an imagination spread by the dalamud followers! i don't have much time but here's another secret i need to share... the most powerful whm attack is holy ii. remember heroes... you are the one who........ she has disappeared into light

3

u/wash-ur-hands Aug 11 '26

My dumbass spent the first 10 hours not knowing that I could fast travel by clicking the crystals on the map and then it took another 5 hours to learn about the envelopes after I had been walking back and forth everytime 🄹

3

u/-Fyrebrand Aug 11 '26

Do not squander this mighty gift

Do not squander it... the legacy I leave you...

3

u/KawaiiAkaneAo Aug 11 '26

T-They take you straight to Vesper Bay...? I-I thought they were just for Horizon for free....I'm literally level 52 with 99 tickets.

1

u/TeddyBear312 Aug 14 '26

Same here but at level 63 and just started the first stormblood quest...

3

u/NemShera Aug 11 '26

For sprouts. You're not gonna run out of them unless you waste them for the purpose of wasting them. The arr msq constantly gives you some more and by the time yiu did the msq, you'll have some left over.

3

u/dannyoe4 Aug 11 '26

Is there a legit reason why they don't just put an aetheryte crystal in the plaza there? Never understood why they'd make you go back there so much but make it so far away from the nearest fast travel.

1

u/Few_Dragonfruit_8331 Aug 12 '26

MSQ mentions it's basically the Monetarists trying to block resources for the Scions because they aren't in their pocket, this is part of why HW moves. so at this point, it would not make sense to retroactively add one because the inconvenience is baked into the story.

3

u/Ok_Bath_1252 Aug 11 '26

You can also take a ferry next to the Arcanists guild to telephoto directly to the town Waking Sands is in

Pray, return to the Waking Sands...

3

u/SpaghettiHandss Aug 11 '26

"Pray, return to the Waking Sands."

6

u/ThatBatsard Aug 10 '26

I'm so relieved to read this subreddit knowing I'm not the only one who got those tickets, said "Who is Vesper???" and shoved them into a deep corner of their inv to collect dust. I felt like such an idiot when I finally connected the dots, which was...a little too late.

My WoL is just honoring the pilgrimmage her ancestors made before her.

4

u/LionAround2012 Aug 10 '26

Pray return to the Waking Sands.

4

u/fdl-fan Aug 10 '26

Absolutely. To make this extremely precise: these days, you will receive a total of 99 Vesper Bay aetheryte tickets as you play through the 2.0 MSQ.

After completing just about all of the content that requires going to Vesper Bay (2.0 MSQ, 2.x patches, optional ARR trials, optional ARR raid, optional ShB trials), I still had like 60 of the damn things left over. You are not going to run out.

2

u/Carbonated_Air Aug 10 '26

I still have about 50 tickets left...

2

u/No-Catch-9732 Aug 10 '26

And if you think you are done going there due to story reasons and have ā€œextrasā€, keep them

2

u/Sonic_Guy00 Aug 10 '26

I found out on my 5th run back to vesper bay 🄲

2

u/atwitchyfairy Aug 10 '26

You have no idea how many times I ran that route. I don't know if back then they gave less than now, but dear god use them.

2

u/Superb_Jaguar8654 Aug 10 '26

I used maybe 20 outta the whole stack lol! šŸ˜‚ recently had to use one in heavenswordĀ

2

u/Far_Seaworthiness354 Aug 10 '26

Funny thing is if they didn’t cut a lot of the content for ARR we would most likely use all of them plus fast travel tickets.

2

u/awpickenz Aug 10 '26

Man.....I could have used this advice like 6 years ago.....

2

u/Aniki356 Aug 10 '26

Eh I dont remember them but i never had an issue going back anyway. I loved the scenery

2

u/Blackwind2937 Aug 10 '26

I have every ticket they ever gave me safely in my retainer's inventory.

2

u/cutt1974 Aug 11 '26

I find they come in handy when you are in areas where the teleport fee is 1500 or more to the three capital cities. I will use my ticket and cheap port from there.

1

u/Geeker-ri Aug 11 '26

Great idea!!

2

u/UmPoucoBemMuito Aug 11 '26

YES! I noticed them only post ARR ;-; I could have skipped so much running

2

u/thebreadah Aug 11 '26

I still remember when I just finished ARR's MSQ and told my friends that it's such a pain to TP to Horizon and run all the way there and they immediately told me to open my inventory and find the mountain of almost useless tickets I have now.

2

u/Slice_Of_Life_03 Aug 11 '26

THANK YOU QVQ

2

u/Nitshft Aug 11 '26

Back in my day we didn’t have an option, you were walking we didn’t get these fancy tickets

2

u/Ok-Employer1541 Aug 11 '26

As a sprout who kinda spammed through a lot of rewards early on, my dumb self didn’t even realize I had them until embarrassingly later. They’re a godsend, I felt so dumb when I found them in my inventory lol

2

u/Budget-Television793 Aug 11 '26

Didn't realise until I was in Stormblood :(

2

u/sakurasangel SMN idk what im doing but im having fun Aug 11 '26

YOU CAN PUT THEM ON YOUR HOT BAR?

2

u/Dragona_TNT Aug 11 '26

Any useable item! I have my gyshal greens on my hotbar for my chocobo!

2

u/sakurasangel SMN idk what im doing but im having fun Aug 11 '26

Well today I learned....

2

u/Inari_Kitsunami Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

I think I ended up using most, if not all, of mine during one of the Yokai events. It was the only reason I made it to any of the fates, before the blue mages solo killed them.

2

u/Ok_Butterscotch3911 Aug 11 '26

THANK YOU FOR THIS! I'm level 62 now but it took me till almost level 30 to even realize I had them because I wasn't paying much attention to my rewards.

2

u/inoma_fang Aug 12 '26

I had them for ever before i read one and went well crap that would have been real useful lol. Good tip.

2

u/Several-Shine7834 Aug 12 '26

You can also teleport to Limsa then down to the Arcanists guild and before you pass the gates to the docks, you can take a ferry straight to the waking sands

2

u/Defiant_Station_5895 Aug 13 '26

Holy crap.

As a current sprout who does exactly this, thank you for this mighty gift.

I set mine to Mor Dhona once I reached that area. Otherwise, the three major cities are a good use for favored destinations.

7

u/Rhonder Aug 10 '26

Major cities by default are good, and then usually I'll just update one to either be new major cities as the story progresses, or also you'll often be questing around a particular hub in the open zones too for periods of time, so it's not a bad idea to set one there while you are there- especially if you want to leave and come back.

For example the story arc leading into the first big boss fight has you running around the Camp Drybone area for a while, which has its own warp crystal. I would tend to set that as a favored destination just in case I get pulled away before i'm done questing in that area (but also to warp back to turn in quests cheaper), and then kinda just update that one every time the story pulls me to a new area of the map like that.

2

u/colborg Aug 10 '26

Waking Sands is by far the place you’ll travel to the most in ARR. in later expansions you kinda just go zone by zone so traveling during quests is less of a hassle.

2

u/Lilli_Jay Aug 10 '26

My home city is Gridania. I have the free port to Limsa. And if I go from Limsa to Gold Saucer, which is always a free trip, I can go to Ul'dah for free because Gold Saucer to Thanalan doesn't cost money. That's how I used to save money. But most people would mind the loading screens, I guess.

2

u/Cautious_General_177 Aug 10 '26

The first one is wherever you need to go for class quests, especially early on. After that, I go with one of the major cities for each expansion (I’m only in Stormblood), and set the city I’m hanging around as my home point.

Note to self: Update my home point next time I play.

1

u/therealkami Aug 10 '26

Most expansions will have a 2 city end game system. One city will have all of the end game vendors, the other city will have the marketboard and some other vendors/daily stuff. You can usually set your return to one and the preferred option to the other.

If you're going through the MSQ, I would recommend setting Return to your main home city, and your preferred to a major city you need to go to often.

2

u/Fancy_Battle_4805 Aug 10 '26

I remember not using these for so long because I thought, well, I'm going to the Walking Sands, not Vesper Bay? What are these even for?

So much time lost for so little reason.

2

u/likobear Aug 10 '26

Real and true. I was more than halfway through endwalker before I used my last one (granted Ul'dah is my home city and return point so I tended to use it more in situations where I was a dunce and left, then realized I forgot something and had to go back before the return cd fell off)

You 100% receive so many more Vesper Bay tickets than you need.

3

u/MissWhiterock Aug 10 '26

Back in my day we ran from horizon up hill both ways. There was no "jog". And sprint used to use this ooooold resource called TP. It'd use alllll of it. But your attacks would also use it. So God forbid you accidentally aggro something on the way down.

Unless you took the boat from Limsa. Bit not everyone knew about that.

4

u/Hellguin Aug 10 '26

Instructions unclear, max level and still have all my tickets xD

2

u/LFK1236 Aug 10 '26

You only get this experience once. I wouldn't worry so much about optimising it. Ride the Chocobo taxi. Run and do a FATE along the way. Stop and smell the roses, you know?

3

u/Rocket_Fodder Aug 11 '26

By the Twelve I had to walk uphill both ways through Horizon and you bet your keister these young'us outta do the same.Ā  Builds character.

Adjusts Onion Bel- oh shit.

2

u/senpaitono Aug 10 '26

Legit just caught up on MSQ today and I've still got like 60 something of those things lmao.

2

u/amicablehummingbird Aug 10 '26

Honestly, thank you for this.Ā  I saw the 50+ of them in my inventory and never even considered that they might be for this...Ā

I think I'm at a point where it might not matter anymore but good to know if the MSQ brings me back there.

2

u/Geeker-ri Aug 11 '26

There are a lot of envelope-y looking things in this game that are indeed not letters.

2

u/MeowPx Aug 10 '26

I replayed with an alt recently, and I would like to add.

They actually give you TOO MUCH tickets. So use them with no hesitation.

I’m mostly done with arr on my alt and I still have plenty left.

2

u/Kilahral Aug 10 '26

I'm at the end of shadowbringers and still have 97 of them in my inventory.

Am I doing it right?

2

u/genicloudz Aug 10 '26

wow level 49 here ive been teleporting to the crystal and running to the walking sands every time LOL by the time i read this those teles will be useless because im almost finished with the walking sands(i think)

2

u/delorblort Aug 10 '26

The faster way to go than from the crystal is take the fairy from Limsa

2

u/jubjubbimmie Aug 10 '26

Yus, I didn't even I realize I had them while trying to grind msq for a mount and I realized yesterday and was SO annoyed with myself.

2

u/nufonewhodis_ Aug 10 '26

i didnt start using them until after heavensward ;_; in earnest, i blazed through ARR and heavensward so fast I didnt even mind walking there 3-5 times a day from Horizon lulz

2

u/TeraFang Aug 10 '26

Sprouts, every single time I have needed to go to Vesper Bay for any reason I have used a ticket and I still have a bunch left over. For context I have completed the entire story so there really is zero reason to save them.

1

u/OddDreams101 Aug 11 '26

I always just took the ferry from Limsa. Seemed insane that nobody else does that?

1

u/Mirowa Aug 11 '26

Well, if you put home or free on Horizon you'd save a few gil

gil > time i guess

1

u/OddDreams101 Aug 11 '26

cheapest ferry in the game, between Limsa and Vesper.

1

u/Mirowa Aug 11 '26

A gil is a gil I guess.

I used that ferry a lot of times as well but I don't remember the cost.

1

u/gdk130 Aug 11 '26

I’m level 36 and I have no idea what you’re talking about

1

u/andthegeekshall Aug 11 '26

I didn't know these were a thing but inventory access on the Switch isn't great (neither is setting up hotbars in all honesty).

Thanks for letting us know.

1

u/Fx08 Aug 11 '26

Saving mine for FFXIV 2.

1

u/OurEngiFriend Aug 11 '26

I have like 20 of them left and I'm in Stormblood. Just made Doma Castle humid. Will I ever need them again or are they safe to toss

1

u/UmPoucoBemMuito Aug 11 '26

YES! I noticed them only post ARR ;-; I could have skipped so much running

1

u/ToastedDreamer Aug 11 '26

I actually have a little too many tickets, idk if I’ll need them much anymore after ARR(and I unlocked flight) so I might just sell them or shove them into a retainer’s pocket and never see them again.

1

u/Dusty170 Aug 11 '26

Not to mention after ARR you'll never need to use them again anyway.

1

u/Dusty170 Aug 11 '26

Not to mention after ARR you'll never need to use them again anyway.

1

u/thegrandjellyfish Aug 11 '26

If you save them for the future, you will end up with a bunch of useless tickets because eventually you stop going back to the Waking Sands for the MSQ. So use them while you need to!

1

u/teddybear082 Aug 14 '26

Ohhhhh…..ooops

2

u/SonniSummers Aug 10 '26

I’m a mentor that’s been playing since launch…. My vesper bay tickets are still tucked away on a retainer. Idk why I even save them. In case one day I’m so poor I can’t teleport?

This is awesome advice!

3

u/sadmanwithabox Aug 10 '26

Aren't the aetheryte tickets a relatively new addition (like, post ShB)?

I don't think I have any on my main character who was caught up with msq by the time they were introduced so I'm confused how you have some if you've been playing since launch. Did I get a bunch and just not remember them? Or do you have a newer character as your main or something?

0

u/SonniSummers Aug 10 '26

I have alts and haven’t used them at all. I may not have them on my main through. I just assumed since my alt did that I must’ve gotten them on my main. And I knew I’ve never used one.

Sorry if I mis spoke I was going off what my alt had and assuming.

2

u/sadmanwithabox Aug 10 '26

Nah you're good! Wasn't trying to call you out or anything, just trying to see if I had missed something lol.

It's been years since we got the tickets, and for all I know I could have forgotten entirely about them! So it was more a question of genuine curiosity than anything else (although looking back now I can see how the tone might feel a little like a fallout)

1

u/SonniSummers Aug 10 '26

I didn’t read any tone at all but started wondering myself. Cause the more I lurked the forum the more people were saying they are newer. I knew I had stack of some sort of tickets in my retainers.

I mean my main has seven retainers deviated to random crap I’ve gathered over the years, relic pieces, eureka stuff, msq items, I only recently deleted the items that they greyed out like the original aether compass.

My main is a hoarder

0

u/SonniSummers Aug 10 '26

Just checked their just normal aethryte tickets and lord knows when I got them

0

u/therealkami Aug 10 '26

Just farm up general use Aetheryte tickets. Do your ARR hunts and Blue Mage Carnival achievements and it's like 100 a week.

1

u/SonniSummers Aug 10 '26

I mean I could. But I was forged by people that live through the depression so I tend to save everything

1

u/Salt_Organization308 Aug 10 '26

I don't know what any of these things mean but I'll keep an eye out. 🫔 Appreciate the heads up

0

u/Dragona_TNT Aug 10 '26

After you pass level 17 in the MSQ, you will be required to visit a place called the Waking Sands frequently. These Vesper Bay Aetheryte Tickets they give you (they look like envelopes) will fast travel you to that location to help you save travel time :)

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '26

Started using them at level 60 😁

1

u/weavejer261 Thea Drakaina - Coeurl Crystal Aug 10 '26

I still have tons of them and im in Endwalker xD

1

u/KingChanceMF Aug 10 '26

I’ve had the game for 6 years now and am in patch 7.4. I still have quite a few of the VBATsšŸ’€šŸ’€ no reason to use them nowwwww

i had no idea about these existing until I had long unlocked flying and was done going back to the Waking Sands, and I just played through for the first time starting in January lol. my partner has been playing since ARR and did an amazing job guiding me through the game but because she has had the same character since 2.0 she didn't know to tell me about them either. I had a good laugh and sigh once I realized lmao

and I realize it's incredibly dumb that I didn't check what they were in my inventory, but in my defense this is my first 'real' video game aside from like, stuff like PokƩmon for the DS LOL, and I thought it was just random junk like the rest of the random junk you get at low level from doing quests etc. and never bothered to investigate further what they did.

It would be nice if they added a thing in your quest log that would signify the free ticket use and offers to use it and teleport you there. Make it a bit more obvious
