Throw in the washing machine
Whatever happen was bound to happen
The strong cloths survive, the weak do not
And I dont need weak cloths

Throw everything in, set to cold, hit go. Don't use dryer sheets with towels. Those are about the only rules I follow.

Or just don’t even use dryer sheets at all and simplify it even more! I don’t think I’ve ever thought “man these clothes aren’t soft enough”.

Wait, why no dryer sheets with towels?

u/TiresOnFire 20h ago
Dryer sheets leave a waxy coating on your clothes. Which is fine for clothes. But for towels, it inhibits their ability to absorb moisture, which is the whole point of a towel. The more you know! 🌈🌟

Thank you. I never knew this before

I didn't for a while either. You'll notice a difference almost immediately. Also, treat yourself and get some nice towels. I have a bunch of cheap old ones in the linen closet and 4 that were kind of pricy that I keep in my usual rotation, but totally worth it. Not much better than a nice, clean, fluffy towel after a hot shower.

Same with fabric softener!!! Fabric softener has plastics that coat the fibres and yes it makes them soft but it decreases absorbency!

I’ll be honest I’ve never known what dryer sheets even are (they aren’t a thing here) and looks like it’s literally fabric softener in a sheet??

Kind of!! It’s mainly to reduce static and makes things less likely to catch lint and things !

This is largely generational. 35+ years ago, clothes were totally different. Lots of garments needed to be ironed, but others couldn’t be. Way more items were dry clean only. Way more items were hand wash only. Way more items were lay-flat dry only. Dyes ran more. Clothes were more susceptible to shrinking. Formal wear was much more common in work settings. And clothes were also just way more expensive.

The polyester probably weaves into the Spandex to make it less like workout clothing. These trousers stretch when you need it. You can pretend you'll never need such pret-a-porter, but the stuff is so much better than the old Sans-a-Belt slacks.

Wash at 40° f, no triangles, iron with eyes, and pee in a circle?

u/Arcires 1d ago edited 22h ago
Just in case you're curious, it's:
- Wash at 40°
No tumble drying (if it were, there'd be small dots, like with the iron)- No bleach
- May be ironed, no hotter than setting 2 (global standard on most irons)
- Dry clearer instructions (just tells a dry clearer what chemicals to use, not for home / daily washes)

Incorrect. The triangle is for no bleach. Dryer is a square with a circle inside, with dots for temperature

u/Mikeologyy 23h ago
Wait I thought square with a circle in it was machine wash. Now I gotta look up the chart again.
Edit: oh I’m dumb, that’s what the tub of water is. I always thought that was just the general symbol to tell you that the temp inside referred to the washing temp and that the distinction between hand and machine washing was a separate symbol.

I regularly go outside to pee, because there’s only one toilet in the house, that 3 humans share, I live in the country, and as a man, the world is my toilet. I’ll have to try this “peeing in a circle” idea,
Thanks.3

Don't wash with water hotter than 40°C, dont bleach, and iron only as high as 150°C, avoid detergents with PCE
