So, buy the Dutch one, and resell it as French…. Profit

u/JSteigs 1d ago

I believe that’s called arbitrage.

195

u/Omnamashivaaya 1d ago

This would be the perfect photo in an economics textbook for arbitrage.

27

u/pm_me_flaccid_cocks 19h ago

It'd go great next to my economics textbook's photo of bondage. Yeah. That's how you pronounce it, you dirty whore. Safeword is fromage.

24

u/Kunphenix 19h ago

what?

1

u/Mysticedge 4h ago

Fromage means cheese.

Edit: also see the user name. Don't expect excellent coherence.

1

u/Kunphenix 4h ago

im aware that fromage means cheese yet i remain bewildered by the sheer lack of sense that that sentence displays

1

u/tjientavara 10h ago

And an demonstration for fungability.

12

u/disillusioned 19h ago

Fittingly, a French word

1

u/Any_Mulberry_2435 19h ago

It will after you sell it

55

u/rationalhippy 1d ago

That’s what the Dutch have been doing for about four hundred years.

10

u/ManWithNoCrame 23h ago

Started with the tulips innit msieur?

15

u/touchmeinbadplaces 23h ago

Nah it started with the swamps, it was free real estate. . Then we moved on to the water..

1

u/cgebaud 11h ago

Nah it started with the swamps, it was free real estate.

Or rather, free turf. As it's mostly lakes now.

1

u/XGreenDirtX 21h ago

Started with the slaves..

1

u/Dry-Path-4508 1h ago

Slaves started in Africa

13

u/42stingray 1d ago

I'd turn it the wrong way and sue you for fraud

2

u/A_Soporific 1d ago

It is the Dutch Angle, after all.

159

u/CardiologistMobile54 1d ago

That's how Vitaly got the idea in Lord of war

20

u/CaiserZero 20h ago

They say that I am the Lord of War, but perhaps it is you.

15

u/rowrin 20h ago

I think you mean war lord.

13

u/CaiserZero 20h ago

Thank you, but I prefer it my way.

3

u/DisplayDefiant5319 12h ago

It would be rude not to accept the brown brown, Mr. Yuri

12

u/5HundredC1garettes 1d ago

Had to make the Kono swap believable

u/Johnclark38 18h ago

Only role I've seen Leto turn in a good performance.

Reminds me of the diamond Shreddies cereal ads in Canada.

Also similar to burger king's lefthanded whopper https://hoaxes.org/af_database/permalink/the_left-handed_whopper/

36

u/Highlord-Frikandel 1d ago

No one remembered the left and right Twix?

20

u/lordargent 1d ago

Don't forget the up Twix, down Twix, and the Twix Boson

2

u/Versaiteis 19h ago

Back in my day Twix were for kids

4

u/DebentureThyme 18h ago

Ah no, those were Trix

3

u/Mikeologyy 23h ago

I thought they still do that, just without putting it in all their ads anymore

71

u/SJClawhammer 14h ago

Leave it in a sunny window for a few months and you'll have a Luxembourgish pillow!

18

u/moog_master 13h ago

Give enough time, red becomes orange, blue becomes green... India!

22

u/Amirx_A_Blade 12h ago

Ireland joins the chat 🇮🇪

11

u/Greedy-Army-3803 11h ago

Or if you want to change it up from time to time Cote D'Ivoire 🇨🇮

2

u/moog_master 13h ago

Source, I'm from Luxembourg and I've seen it:)

40

u/Ghastly-Jack 1d ago

Now do Ireland and Côte d'Ivoire.

27

u/wurnthebitch 1d ago

Poland and Indonesia

9

u/PutTheKettleOff 1d ago

Haiti and Liechtenstein (pre-1936)

12

u/ElFarfadosh 1d ago

Chad and Romania

14

u/Tosi313 1d ago

I've been looking for a pre-1936 Lichtenstein flag pillow!

5

u/kaffikoppen 1d ago

Italy and Hungary

3

u/bionicjoe 22h ago

Aren't those a different shade of red/orange?

29

u/Gr8fulFox 22h ago

Now I'm imagining a bad review left by a purchaser that thought they were buying a pillow with the flag of county X, but then complained that it was actually the flag of county Y, and the confusion is just because the customer had the pillow flipped-around.

8

u/TheVonz 22h ago

You mean, they ordered X but they got X, or they thought they were getting Y but they received ⅄?

12

u/Yetimang 20h ago

They were ordering X but they got +

80

u/Pellaeonthewingedleo 1d ago

The dutch discount is most likely because the colours are off. The dutch flag has a lighter blue and red than the french flag

65

u/borntobewildish 1d ago

Don't be so sensible. Just call us cheapskates who will not pay €15.99 for a pillow.

12

u/Seicair 19h ago

I have Dutch friends, I immediately thought something along those lines.

17

u/unematti 1d ago

You just have to wash it a couple extra times.

5

u/lordducka 20h ago

Just dim the lights a bit and save money in another way too

11

u/Sabbathius 1d ago

Buy ten Dutch pillows. Next day return 10 French pillows. Profit.

3

u/HaveAngelsNL 6h ago

You must be Dutch😁

21

u/Trips-Over-Tail 1d ago

Could the zipper be in a different place?

10

u/edijsn 22h ago

They are not squares, they are rectangles, with longer horizontal side and shorter vertical side. Orientation matters, those are in fact two different products. Can't explain the price difference though.

2

u/Trips-Over-Tail 8h ago

It might cost more to bridge the zipper across multiple colours rather than one. More complex stitching.

11

u/abbys_alibi 20h ago

Reminds me of when HR handed out branded coffee travel mugs to staff. When I went in for mine she asked, "Do you want a left handed or right handed one?" I stared at her waiting for the punchline. She just raised an eyebrow and waved a mug in each hand. I said, "I'd like the ambidextrous mug, please." She chuckled, handed me a mug and told me everyone else, so far, had picked a left or a right.

3

u/wollphilie 15h ago

To be fair, as a lefty I've been handed some porcelain cups that were actively hostile to me (especially the ones with the twisted hanks), but fortunate y I've yet to encounter that in travel mugs.

7

u/abbys_alibi 15h ago

One could also argue that if the mug was branded only on one side, the handle placement could determine whether it was for a lefty or righty. If the intent was for the logo to always face outward.

This travel mug was branded on both sides. It didn't matter at all which hand you used to hold it.

1

u/semisociallyawkward 11h ago

Friend of mine has very fancy cups, with a twisting ribbon-shaped handle that feels phenomenal in your right hand. It is unusable with your left hand.

1

u/1_2__getdown 8h ago

Villeroy and Boch New Wave

1

u/VehaMeursault 3h ago

There are left and right handed mugs, to be fair. Some handles aren’t symmetrical, and depending on where the text or image is printed one could argue sides.

But yeah, odds are that’s not what you were dealing with. Good on you.

17

u/russt90 1d ago

It's still €15.99. Dutch government subsidized 6 EUR.

60

u/lucky_ducker 1d ago

The French pillow costs more because the cover is reversible with the all-white liner.

10

u/themflyingjaffacakes 22h ago

Terrible trope, excellent execution 🫡

8

u/vincenzodelavegas 1d ago

The blue is different… French is dark navy blue and Dutch is cobalt blue, so slightly lighter

10

u/jknl 1d ago

Yes, but i doubt that the actual did that with these cushions

6

u/Ifritmaximus 23h ago

Had to return mine… they sent me the Dutch one.

9

u/nico851 1d ago

That's the French tax. Grrrr Franzosen... /s

3

u/Commando_NL 1d ago

The french one is burn proof.

2

u/1978shorty 1d ago

I'm Dutch and work in the Pricing field. I approve...

2

u/Lauke 1d ago

Jesus christ this image is older than some of my coworkers

2

u/Rope_antidepressant 1d ago

Lol i really hope if i ordered both they'd actually be different. Zipper/tag placement or something that tells me they're made separately and the design people at the company are actually stupid

2

u/Dd_8630 1d ago

Mmm, arbitrage.

2

u/howarewestillhere 1d ago

$34.99 $29.99 Black Friday special.

2

u/Turnabo 19h ago

Remember to add, 'This way up' sign.

2

u/DartzIRL 9h ago

The french shade of blue is officially different.

6

u/xgbsss 1d ago

The Dutch are known to be frugal

1

u/splitcroof92 13h ago

But the dutch are also way richer and everything is much more expensive in the Netherlands than in france

3

u/Raegan_Targaryen 1d ago

You can use an even cheaper white one for France.

2

u/BilleAap007 12h ago

Thats how the dutch pay for the french pensions.

1

u/trueblu 1d ago

When it comes to commodities, cost of sales has very little to do with the price

1

u/Grimalkhinn 1d ago

this is tilting, for sure...

1

u/MassageWithABottle 1d ago

they wish but pretty sure most stuff is more expensive in the netherlands thats why they more frugal

1

u/namstel 1d ago

Nah, nogsteeds too pricey.

1

u/DogPlane3425 1d ago

Buy the Dutch one and then complain that you received the French one.

1

u/CastrateMeASAP 1d ago

Take a gander at the Mexican flag… AKA the Italian flag with a little spice…

1

u/Optimal_King6504 1d ago

Is the Belgian one free?

1

u/Commercial-Co 1d ago

Is this real

1

u/captainthomas 20h ago edited 20h ago

I once worked on a production of La Bohème where we ordered a bunch of French flags for the chorus to wave around at the end of Act II (IYKYK). What we got sent were a bunch of Dutch flags. I joked that we ought to just move the setting from Paris to Amsterdam, but wardrobe ended up cutting all the Dutch flags off their poles and sewing them back on at a 90º angle to the original.

1

u/Tufflaw 20h ago

Ha, reminds me of this great scene in Lord of War - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwpytWlJTxQ

1

u/blank_Azure 14h ago

They are the same pictures.jpg

1

u/Thenderick 13h ago

Another win for the Dutch!

1

u/Jealous_Repair6757 11h ago

Met korting!

1

u/angeluzp 11h ago

just buy the dutch one for 9,99 eur and turn it sideways on your couch to save six bucks

1

u/tsereg 11h ago

Dutch blue is lighter shade. This is French flag pillow, not Dutch.

1

u/still_not_deleted 3h ago

Maybe the real reasom is that 10$ is overpriced so they need to create a hook for smarty-pants to buy it

0

u/oli_ramsay 1d ago

I thought this was the French flag 🏳️

5

u/wnoise 20h ago

Common mistake, that's actually the confederate flag.

1

u/Autheisticus 1d ago

5

1

u/Eddie_1982 21m ago

Danke ;)

0

u/arunnairks 12h ago

Is it 15.99 and 9.99 ?

-1

u/ReasonableExplorer 16h ago

This goes beyond discrimination based on where you live, it also discriminates against you orientation.
