I want a sandbox RPG. Basically, I want to be dropped in a world without having to follow a main story, I just wanna muck around and do whatever. Thank you :)

I guess Kenshi is a good example, Skyrim to a lesser degree but not as much. Rimworld isn't cause it's more of a management game.

Couples video game suggestions

My fiancée and I have been trying to look for more couples games to get into together. She’s still somewhat new to gaming so she’s not into games that might be more accustomed to seasoned videogame players. She likes something that has a followable story and is a little bit straightforward like it takes two and split fiction. We really like overcooked 2 but it can be a bit overwhelming for her after a little while. Anyways I’d appreciate any solid recommendations thanks!

Looking for games that pushed the medium to its full potential

Hello, I am doing a project for school and I'm trying to find games that realized the full potential of video games. I'm not necessarily talking about graphical leaps or improved hardware, but rather games that break the boundaries of what is expected. For instance, something like Metal Gear Solid (1998) takes advantage of certain features that create a unique gaming experience, such as the Psycho Mantis fight. Otherwise, games like NieR Automata (2017)/Gestalt (2010) can only work as video games. There's a level of interaction with the player in the NieR games that make them undeniably boundary-breaking. Personally, I would rank those two as being the games that properly actualize what games can be. Hopefully that gives an idea of what I am looking for.

No restrictions for platform, genre, release date, etc. Whatever you think is applicable is fine by me. Appreciate it!

Games i can play alone without feeling alone

Hey, i am basically looking for what my title says :)

Could be any genre, exept horror (tough that might help in a different sense lol). From games that i've liked based on their content, i would say that exploration, crafting and a bit of rewarding grinding are the most important features to me.

Funnily enough, the game that came closest to perfection to me was New World, as you could just do your thing, explore a beautiful world and gather stuff for crafting, while always encountering other people but without the need to interact with them.

But it could also be a singleplayer game with either an engaging story or a good simulated society. I really liked Stardew Valley for example, but only until i 've met everyone, which didn't took too long.

I know that it is a quite specific request that also has different answers for different people, but maybe you guys have some suggestions :) Thank you!

A few games I've already tried:

The Witcher

Project Zomboid

No Man's Sky

WOW

Baldurs Gate

RDR2

Roots of Pacha

Oh i should maybe add that i am limited by my 4060, so i can't really play some of the newer games unfortunately

Best automation games you've ever played?

I'm finally thinking about exploring the genre and looking for the finest options on the market. Currently, I've only really got into Sixty Four and its super satisfying, looking for something similar where machines are churning out resources every second and you're expanding your operations as you go.

Any WESTERN games with flamboyant energy and fun poses like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Jojos Bizarre Adventures?

I'm replaying Bayonetta and watching the new Jojo anime and I'm just loving how campy and silly everything is. Dangerous situation? Quick strike a pose. Everything I can think of like this is Japanese but I'm wondering if any western developers have tried to tackle something like this? Any recommendations?

Games that let you be an evil creature in a sandbox(ish) setting

• Upvotes

Think vampires, witches, necromancers, monsters, etc. Historical/ fantasy settings are preffered but not a strict requirement. It’s also fine if mods are needed to play that way or for a better experience.

Doesn’t need to be a pure sandbox, but I do need to be able to fart around in an open world for extended amounts of time.

Games that I’ve played that sort of work but why they aren’t it:

Skyrim/elder scrolls in general: play as a vampire/werewolf/necromancer yes, but overall it feels half baked.

Warhammer 3: play as undead/evil factions but the scale is too grand.

Bannerlord with the old realms mod: fits the bill in a lot of ways, but burnt out on mount and blade for the foreseeable future.

Prototype 1/2: loved them, played them to death back in the day, and do not want to revisit.

The forest 1/2: while kind of the exact opposite of what I’m asking, it got to the point where I was the monster hunting the cannibals, so the vibe was right. Played to death at this point though.

Games on my radar, but not sold on them yet, feel free to convince me:

Tyranny, pathfinder wotr: both seem to cover the being evil part, but also appear to be too story driven to just mess around in.

Vampire the masquerade bloodlines: seems interesting, but not sure about the level of jank going into it fresh

Vampire the masquerade bloodlines 2: also seems interesting, and certainly less janky, but reviews seem to imply it’s somewhat on the rails and disappointing.

Vrising : reading about it I’m sold, watching it be played I lose interest. Also worried it’s just not that interesting to play solo.

Carrion: just not that into 2D side scrollers. There’s been exceptions, but they are few.

Maneater: a little silly, but if there was a similar game based on land it would probably be scratch the itch.

Open to any and all suggestions.

Suggest me some less popular story games please!

Would love some recommendations some sightly lesser known story focused games; no Red Dead 2, TloU Disco Elysium, MGS etc. Examples of what I'm talking about: Riven, Ghost Trick, 1000xResist, Night in the Woods, Pentiment, The House in Fata Morgana. Preferably ones where the gameplay complements rather than detracts from the game (no Planescape Torment).

Also would love to hear about some games that are not necessarily story first but where the story, gameplay and atmosphere culminate in an elevated experience i.e. Rain World, Exo One, Team Ico games.

I have a PC, PS4 and Switch 2. Thanks!

Wanna dip in the "soulslike" genre but finding it difficult so I need some suggestions.

I've played all the great story mode games on my pc and I'm looking to play the soulslike genre of games since I haven't tried that. I tried to play elden ring and Bloodborne but I can't even go through the first enemy hence finding it very difficult.

I wanna ease into this genre by finishing the easiest soulslike game and then leveling up by playing even harder games because that's how I played horror games.

So tell me a great easy soulslike game that I can start at.

Looking for some emotionally engaging games.

• Upvotes

Looking for some games that make me feel some of the heavier emotions like dread, despair, hopelessness etc. without being too action heavy. Been playing too many games lately that, while fun, don’t get the emotions going and I’m a sucker for good writing. I’m on PC and PS5 if that helps.

Got a long flight ahead. Looking for games to play on my phone

Hi everyone. As per the title, I’m looking for recommendations for games to play on my phone for two 8 hour flights. I’ll be bringing a portable controller with me (digital triggers only however) so that’s an option.

I’ve currently installed Control, Balatro, GTA San Andreas, and Max Payne. Thing is, I’ve played these games before on PC, and I’m open to replaying them, but I’d like a new experience as well.

Open to genres besides turn based rpgs. Platform is iOS.

Ideally looking for a game with a story to play through, real time RPGs would be nice. I’ve looked at driving game options, but besides GRID games I’m not seeing anything too appealing.

Also open to card games, however the last time I tried Slay the Spire, it didn’t really hook me.

Eager to see your recommendations, and if more details are needed, feel free to ask, I’ll be keeping an eye on the post and giving updates as quickly as I can.

Thank you everyone!

Trying to find games, where the RPG character is independent from the world/campaign/mission they are in.

I like games where you can reuse characters from game instance to game instance.. that might be a bit hard to explain for some if you dont know examples.

But i mean games like

- State of Decay 2 with the character pool which you can exchange characters to and use them to bring into new maps or import them for some large amount of ingame currency to your community.

- Rage of mages, a old game where you can enter various worlds to level up in with a character you freely select before that

- Wildermyth that also has a character pool that you can bring from mini campaign to minicampaign with their progress being kept.

- Old Icewind dale and baldurs gate where you could export characters at any point and reimport them to a new game are also examples of this.

Stuff like this, anyone got some more examples?

Is there something like heroes of might and magic that does this? that would be awesome. but any genre will do.

I know some games like terraria or enshrouded have this, but it doesnt feel as good as those since the world is also a big part of the progression..

Looking for a mobile game I can play at my own pace (no timers, no P2W)

I'm looking for a new mobile game to play, but I'm tired of games like Dragon City or Hay Day where you have to set timers, wait for hours, and log in at specific times to make progress.
I'd like something I can play at my own pace, whenever I feel like it, without feeling like I'm missing out if I don't log in every day.
My preferences:
No pay-to-win mechanics, or at least nothing too aggressive.
No shooters or deck-building games.
Ideally, something with satisfying progression, depth, and enough content to keep me playing long-term.
Preferably a game where I can make meaningful progress in short sessions or play for longer when I have time.
Free-to-play would be a plus, but I'm open to paid games if they're worth it

Looking for pulp-adventure games

Hey there. I’ve been itching to discover some new pulp-adventure games.

I’m on PC and I love games like Tomb Raider, Uncharted and all the Indiana Jones games. Also enjoy Sniper Elite and Wolfenstein.

I’d like to keep things very broad here because I’m trying to find something new! Thanks a lot.

EDIT: Also love The Saboteur! I love games from any era that have this classic feel.

Games like Pikmin, Overlord, or Brutal Legend where you control a character, but can give commands to followers/minions

I'm not looking for a party-based RPG, but I like the style of games like Overlord, Pikmin, or Brutal Legend where you controlled your own character, could interact in some degree with the world, but you also could command followers/minions and needed to use them to solve puzzles or complete objectives. I'm looking for something closer to Overlord/Brutal Legend (IE: more mature)

Only other game I know with the command mechanic is Mount & Blade but it's a very different type of game.

And yes, I'm aware of the sequels to Pikmin and Overlord

Singleplayer FPS looter shooters in mostly realistic setting (no mutants, lasers or abilities) something inbetween Single Player Tarkov and Sunkenland

I love Stalker Anomaly mods (I reduce or remove mutants) and recently played some Sunkenland which was a ton of fun! Single Player Tarkov is one of my favorite gaming experiences and Road to Vostok is getting there but it is either way too easy or suddenly seemingly impossibly difficult and frustrating.

Since I need a break of those games I've been looking for similar ones but am running out of ideas.

I have tried getting into:

Dune (third person is a problem)

Metro (too many mutants, too rigid due to story driven)

Fallout (Great game but too far from reality)

Nuclear Epoch (too much fantasy stuff and no real gun to gun combat)

Red River (only tried at a friends but couldn't really get into it, everything felt a bit meaningless)

Abiotic Factor (Fun game but only mutants and loads of melee combat)

And a bunch of Zombie games that just didn't work for me

What I want most:

Mainly gun to gun combat

Looting to aquire weapons, starting with difficult loadout

Ability to collect and hoard so no round based games, extraction shooters are fine

Building would be incredible

Simple gameplay - no abilities or scifi shields I gotta worry about, the closer it gets to CS the better, especially if it avoids ADS mechanics.

I literally just have tons of fun aiming with a mouse thanks to being a former CS addict but have gotten too old for multiplayer games. Most shooters burn me out quickly because they got nothing but shooting and walking. I love spending some time looting, gathering ressources or building a base before getting back into fights to keep the adrenaline and fun level up.

I love FFTA but I am not liking FFT, more games like the former?

So I played Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced and A2 when they came out, and I loved them so dearly. As such, I had always wanted to play Final Fantasy Tactics, but I didn't have a PSP or Playstation. When FFT - the Ivalice Chronicles got released last year, I was so pumped to finally be able to try this game that everyone was raving about. I finally got it and... it just didn't hit. Now, I'm not very far in (near the end of chapter 1, it seems), but I cannot get myself excited to play it. I am a person who loves fantasy and whimsy, and I feel like FFTA, with all the different races and jobs and world, really accomplished that. FFT's more... militaristic, war, doom and gloom feeling is not what I am looking for. I also tried to play the remake of Tactics Ogre when it came out, once again for its cult acclaim, but the setting was also hard for me to get into. I've played a number of isometric, turn-based TRPGs, from the Fire Emblem games to Wargroove to Wintermoor Tactics Club to Fell Seal to Disgaea, but FFTA is still my favorite. I guess the things I like are

  • job systems
  • fantasy setting, but not "realistic" kingdom clashing, politicking medieval fantasy
  • unique characters (not super into just having a bunch of randomly generated mercs)
  • more RPG less puzzle (I want to level up, get new skills, maybe even grind to get stronger)

Any thoughts?

Games with most in depth character building/theorycrafting, preferably not turn by turn

I'm looking for games with complex character building systems, where you theorycraft/experiment/create builds that might not have even been play tested by the dev that might (optionally) go as far as breaking the game when done right

The games I've played that fall into this would be :

- Path of Exile (probably the best example, but as much as the building is fun the gameplay itself is a bit shallow & farm is rng based).

- Other ARPGs like Grim Dawn, similar but slightly different (and less complex)

- All mainstream Souls where your specific build dictates the way the enemies are dealt with, with very varying gameplay

- Expedition 33 - building around specific weapons to optimize their strength and eventually break the game one-shotting even the superbosses

- Pathfinder WOTR - good char building but a bit too high reading to gameplay ratio, also turn by turn

- Divinity Original Sin (1&2) and Baldur's Gate 3 - great char builders but also turn by turn

I believe I've played most mainstream titles (but post your example, maybe I haven't played it), so I expect a more niche recommendation

Looking for a first engineering sandbox

So long story short, in my teens and childhood, I never took the initiative to play games that were difficult on brain, because I thought people that did better then me and didnt want to try myself. This included most sandboxes. This - combined with me hating on any sci fi for literaly the same reason but in a different field, caused me to avoid a genre I could potentially be extremely good at, and have a lot of fun at.

My current ideas are factorio, or even just redstoning in minecraft, but there might be other ones/better fits for my situation.

Looking for a game I could deposit one month worth of active studying and practice to get a mildly impressive result that I can look at and think about my expirience.

Recommends for Steam Deck Pixel RPGS with Plot?

Hi! I recently played Drove: Forsaken Kin and CrossCode. I really love these games for the pixel art and game mechanics but more importantly, I love the plot driven/world building aspect of these games.

I’m not a huge fan of games that are super open-ended or don’t have much of an overarching story (i.e Terraria or Stardew Valley). I like having a clear adventure with a beginning and end, while still being able to explore, build my character, upgrade skills and gear, do side quests, etc

Any recommendations for this in terms of pixel rpgs? Thank you!
