MOD STUFF Grey's Anatomy Returns October 15th - Rule & Etiquette Refresher

Hello all,

With the premiere happening tomorrow I just wanted to take the time to remind you that the premiere is happening tomorrow :)

Also I wanted to go over a few things that we with common sense know, but just a reminder on rules and customs. If anything is on this list that isn't in the official rules it will be soon.

Please keep any posts about the newest episode in the stickied discussion thread

This is in particular common with low-effort posts. A character will do something out of pocket or unexpected and we'll get 12 posts saying "REALLY?" about one singular action. Let me be clear, we don't expect every post and comment to be high-brow analysis, but give it some effort. If that's all your post is, then it needs to be a comment. We reserve the right to remove these as needed.

If you see a post that has this issue and hasn't been removed, please report it Moderators do not go patrolling the streets of /r/greysanatomy like you may think. If you report it it will alert us and we will look at it asap. Also, we may leave it up if we feel it is appropriate to do so.

Be Nice to each other Not much to say. Pretend they're sitting across the table from you usually solves that problem.

Explicit spoilers in the title

Just a refresher on this. Don't say explicit spoilers in the title. Just had to ban someone for this a moment ago. This applies to ALL spoilers - even something from season 1. We understand that an old spoiler may be old news, but it's really not that hard to figure out how to word something that doesn't say an exact spoiler in the title.

Have fun everyone and enjoy the premiere!

EPISODE DISCUSSION Season 23 Premiere! S23E1: Collide Live Discussion Post Spoiler

Welcome to season 23!!! As always, this discussion post will go live an hour prior to the episode official airtime. All spoilers are allowed for previous seasons, but if you obtained early access to the episode please don’t spoil it early. Please keep all discussion of the premiere to this post until Saturday, then separate posts are free game as long as the titles are nonspoilery.

EDIT: I prepped this post last week, and at that time I found information about a season break from Nov-March in multiples places. More recent articles do not reflect this, so it may not be accurate. I will update as further information is posted. For now we will consider it null and void.

RJ Decker is (bizarrely) doing quite well, so it seems Nick appearances will be limited. No word on how much Meredith we can expect.

Catch back up by checking out the discussion post for S22 finale Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Original airdate: October 15th, 2026

Episode summary: After a collision at Sea-Tac sends a surge of critically injured patients to Grey Sloan, the unveiling of its controversial new VIP floor is thrown into chaos as doctors race to save lives amid impossible choices.

Song title inspiration: Collide by Howie Day

Episode Trailer on YouTube

Skip ahead to next week’s episode Slippin’ and Slidin’.

Episode summary for next week: As Bailey adjusts to student life, she and Blue respond to a fraternity hazing mishap; Meredith juggles Boston and Seattle as she advocates for a young patient; Amelia and Toni support Jo.

Everytime Catherine Avery is on screen, I despise that woman even more.

Yet to find any redeeming qualities about that character.

DISCUSSION Do you guys ever wonder how DIFFERENT the show would’ve been today, if the OG cast stayed together throughout the show’s 23 seasons? 🤔

Imagine.. the show would’ve had better storylines especially and the other characters probably wouldn’t have existed lol

FIRST TIME WATCHER first watch!

• Upvotes

So I finally caved and I’m watching greys anatomy, does Owen hunt have any redeeming qualities? Like at all? I’m over halfway through season 6 and I can’t find one single thing to like, obviously I sympathise with the war trauma but idk he just seems manipulative asf!

as a side note Karev is so close to being likeable I just wish he wouldn’t turn into such a 🛎️end whenever he’s hurt 🫠 I want him to be my favourite I do believe his time will come, for now it’s Yang she is my fave!

DISCUSSION I'm so tired of charcaters like alex and idk why you dickride that man

It's always the same bullshit with these specific male characters types. 😭 Does something bad. Oh actually mommy and daddy were super mean to me.

The fans reactions: oh my god I didn't know that I hated him but after that he became my favorite character uuwuwuwu.

I don't give a fuckkkkk if your brother shanked your sister in her sleep why are people suddenly being so understanding towards an sshole jsut because he has a backstory.

Many people went through stuff like him yet they didn't turn out like that. Had a female charcater reacted like well she wouldn't be allowed and wouldn't be given nearly an iota of grace

EPISODE DISCUSSION Rewatching s18e17

Meredith is babysitting an accidentally high Richard and he finally sobers up and she tells him “the weed is alot stronger these days, I can’t tell you how many kids I see come into the ER with a full psychotic break just from weed!” That’s an inaccurate depiction. It is stronger now than it used to be, and it can cause a psychotic break in people who have underlying mental disorders if consumed enough but to depict it as weed is regularly causing otherwise healthy stable kids to have psychotic breaks is ridiculous and untrue. I’m surprised they would have her make such a bold claim.

Grey's S10 - still don't get why a single person didn't discipline Ross or take any action against him

He kept being a jackass and crossing all professional boundaries. Over and over and over again.

Yet not a single action was taken against him.

I get Grey's is all about fiction and no one really follows any professionalism.

But dude.

The ultimate cycle of trauma in this show. He became exactly what broke him.

DISCUSSION Richard was unfair to Penny when he hired her

Doing like my millionth re-watch.

1st off, Richard knew who Penny was and told Meredith "you were the only reason not to hire her." Totally forgetting about Amelia and the many many other ATTENDINGS that loved Derek.

2- yeah I dont blame Penny for Dereks death and I think logically most of the GS team doesnt either, but emotions are gonna emotion.

Richard knowingly brought her into a hostile emotional environment and expected her to get fair treatment and a good education. The best thing he couldve possibly done for her was make a recommendation or call some people to get her sent to a good program where no one knew her or cared about her past patients so she could get the education and treatment she deserved. He not only compromised her education but also put several of the team members in an uncomfortable and emotional situation, and we all know how dangerous it can get for th3 patients when the surgeons are letting emotions run them.

I just cant understand what Richard was thinking or why he thought that was even a slightly good idea

EPISODE DISCUSSION S3E23 Meredith got slapped

I was rewatching this ep and when mer gets slapped by thatcher, Derek Webber and Bailey all saw it happen. How come nobody did anything? Like that’s technically physical assault? I would have expected at least one of them to come and pull her out of that situation. Instead she leaves herself and they all stand there???

FIRST TIME WATCHER Torres and Mark

‘A mighty oak’ I absolutely love their relationship. I didn’t know how to take Torres at first, but now she’s definitely my favourite part of the show alongside Mark. They’re the best pairing at the moment. I love whatever they are.

I’m on season 7 ep 13, yes I’m pretending here comes aeroplane isn’t a thing.

Why was Owen so obsessed with this child? And then the second his dad wakes up suddenly throwing them out into a storm in a helicopter is a logical decision?? Weirdo behaviour

DISCUSSION Grey's S10 is infuriating AF

Every damn character acts like a massive asshole.

And why is everyone so horny???

Wtf were the writers high on?

This is like my 4th re-watch. And it's making me cuss at every damn scene.

PS: never re-watch your favorite shows in your 30s.

Doctors’ Hair

• Upvotes

Only up to season 9 right now.

Seems to me that many doctors have long hair, which they don’t tie back. Is this the norm in hospitals? Have not seen doctors irl working in ED departments with hair down loosely, only in clinics or ward rounds.

MEDIA This show has put me through way too much 😭

Grey’s Anatomy really makes you get attached to characters and then expects you to just carry on with your day after an episode like that 😭 I’ve laughed, cried, gotten mad at the writers… probably all in the same season. What’s one storyline you still think about?

How do people love Izzie and George?

Okay, I am only on season 2 but I think Izzie is one of the worst characters on the show. Izzie is a bad friend, she makes fun of George's gf and seems jealous, what is up with her basically dating a patient and no one is doing anything about it? She is unsupportive when they are going through crap but expects immediate support because her non-boyfriend slept with someone else - and as a woman I hope for my gf's to support me in that situation - but Izzie was constantly judging Meredith for the relationship with Derek and resentful of her friendship with Christina?

I know it's a show, but she is very unlikeable as a character. I'm sure i'll change my opinion 😄 I'm currently on Season 2 episode 23 so I'll find out.

And George is a jerk. He obsesses over Meredith who shows no interest in him, they make a sex mistake and she's the devil because she cried? She obviously didn't want him and he was creepy about his love for her, he didn't care that she didn't love him as long as she faked it. He just gives me the creeps.

DISCUSSION I love erica so much

She's amazing. Smart, a go getter, focused, cares about her patients and wants to give them the best medical care she can, calls out bullshit etc. The only thing i hated was how she treated cristina but it's not like other characters haven't done way worse and unfair things.

Meredith and Christina
Mark and Derek
Callie and Mark (sort of platonic ish, I’m counting them anyway)
Bailey and Richard
Izzie and George (yes ik they dated eventually which was a terrible storyline but I always saw them more as friends)
Addison and Callie

SPOILERS Since when….?

This show has had no problem flaunting attending/resident relationships from day one, or at least they didn’t make it seem like such a serious problem. Why are they making Ndugu and Millin’s such a big deal? I get that it’s frowned upon, especially since Ndugu says he’s the new Resident Director, but why are they making those 2 characters run around like it getting out will be the end of the world even before he revealed his new title?

I’ll never understand how anyone found perpetual child, “nice guy” George O’Malley endearing or likable. Ugh.
