The hate insects/arachnids get Spoiler

Post image

Now I know a lot of people are scared of bugs. That's okay. I used to be terrified. Like, scream and run away from bugs. Because my family and whole life i was taught that "little bug creepy and scary ❗️"

But I started studying entomology and reading about insects, and arachnids. I was still scared, but had a new respect for them. They help so much, they're so important, and they don't have it out for us. Yes I've been stung and bitten before. But I've also been bitten and scratched by my cats, and I don't hate them. Spiders are the most hated on, and casually joked about being killed, which I don't like. I've now had many pet spiders, a millipede, isopods, and Asian ladybird beetles. I'm not saying go hold spiders and stop being scared, but I've helped my whole family stop being terrified, and my family has even told me that they started saving spiders they find inside, and intead of killing them, they put them outside. Also, my family use to hate bugs. But learning about these animals and understanding them, is one step to not hate them. You can get over fears. I'm not saying you have to, but don't joke about killing them for no reason. Especially when its someone's pet, because I see people joke about killing people's tarantulas and other pets all the time. Its disgusting.

Anyways, just wanted to say. You don't have to agree, but I hate the absolute disgust people have for living creatures who help so much.

Also im not saying go save a mosquito, but the hate is unnecessary a lot of the time. There is reasons and exceptions, and you don't have to like bugs

One thing I'm not fond of? Minute Pirate Bugs. They are active in fall and bite alot cause they want food. They bite me a lot and leave little bumps. Not a fan, I blow on them or push them away alot. Not saying you can't dislike bugs who bite you, but just saying I don't like when people say they're worthless or deserve to die for just living.

Bugs make me itchy, but they deserve to live just as much as me. Still, things like infestations can be problematic and need to be dealt with. The only bug that doesn’t make me uncomfortable or itchy is a moth. Something about them is just so cute I don’t think I could kill one

Yes that's definitely true, also im not saying go save a mosquito lol, but the hate is unnecessary a lot

Okay so here's the thing. I want so badly to agree with you. In fact, I do agree with you, spiders are extremely important. I am arachnophobic and do my best not to let it override my higher judgment, and haven't killed a spider in decades.

But getting jumpscared with my phobia? Made it real hard.

I'm so sorry!! I'm stupid. But also, that's very kind of you. I'm sorry that you have that fear and I can't imagine, especially with how common they are and how often they appear in media and everywhere. Thankyou for being kind even if its hard for you. You're a good person!

It's made a lot of video games hard, I'll tell you that! But I appreciate the kind words, and the spoiler'ing on the post. :3

I love spiders and respect them like how. I honestly when I find spiders in my house I actually move them around my house into certain spots where bugs I don't want in my house like ants and such to come in. I let them make their little web and everything.

They get to eat and live in a nice warm environment while I have a bug free home for the most part, talk about symbiotic relationship

Hah, I love that. Also yeah we have alot of Cellar spiders and Parsons spiders (i think that's what they're called) in my house and they get alot of other bugs that would be much more annoying and infest stuff.

I'm very careful to not hurt spiders. They're living things and actually helpful little guys.

But I can't help this inexplicable primal fear reaction I have to them. If they're chilling in my house, that's fine, but I'm going to have my heart stop every time I see them.

And on that note, I really, really wish you hadn't dropped this image on my feed before making your point. I really can't help the reaction, and arachnophobia is a very common phobia so a lil bit of consideration - maybe even just a spoiler tag - would be very nice.

Im so sorry, Thankyou so much, I just changed it.. I feel so bad because I realized afterwards. But also thankyou for understanding and agreeing. I understand the fear. I used to be disgusted and terrified so I'm not trying to say anything about anyone who is

whenever there's a post about insects outside of r/awwnverts, r/wormington, or r/beetleapartment, it gets so many typical "hans get ze flammenwerfer" or "kill it with fire" comments that it makes me nauseous

Yeahh.. its sad to me. I understand that it is not the same comparison, but after I've owned spiders and they are MY pets? Hearing people say they want to kill them makes me disgusted, because it makes me as grossed out as if they wanted any other animal dead. Its comparable to my other pets and I hate it.

Whenever I know one is in the vicinity, my mind sees it already in my eyes, nose, mouth, ass, gouch...

Interestingly enough, my brain registers larger bugs and arachnids differently. Tarantula is basically a puppy

I used to kill every bug i saw but recently started to calm down, now i usually will ignore or try to grab it with a piece of paper/tissue to bring it outside my house unless it's like a roach i will never be okay with them

Pic I took of a lil guy on the street.

Jumping spiders seems to be the one exception. They have that chibi swag in them. Every other spider still invokes the natural primal human fear of spiders. However they all deserve respect, regardless of how scary they look.

Awww haha cute! I love jumpers, I've had 3 before and they make such friendly pets.

i HATE having arachnophobia it's so bad i can't even see a vid or pic of one it makes me feel like one is crawling on me after seeing one

2

u/Friendly_weiner4134 52m ago

I'm sorry about that, it sounds terrible.. I used to be terrified but definitely not to the extent that some people are, so I'm sorry because they're so prevalent in media and stuff. I hope it gets better but if it doesn't, I hope you can avoid seeing them more often!!

2

u/ExplorerDependent986 51m ago

yeah it is and i hope too

and it sucks cuz i'm a huge fan of spider-man

2

Insects are lesser beings that don't deserve to be on the same planet as me.

I get that they are biologically necessary but I don't have to like them.

6

u/StankoBlansky 8h ago

Jesus what a Chud comment, “lesser beings” sure buddy

-5

u/UnderTheCurrents 8h ago

If there was ever an appropriate moment to use this phrase, it's here.

They are closer to machines than to humans or other more advanced mammals.

5

u/StankoBlansky 8h ago

Brother, our bodies run on electricity. Everything that moves or breathes is technically a machine dumbass

-1

u/UnderTheCurrents 8h ago

Way to miss my point

3

u/StankoBlansky 8h ago

Which was?

-1

u/UnderTheCurrents 8h ago

That they are virtually indistinguishable from automata. Look up what a Braitenberg vehicle is, an insect is not far away from that theoretical concept.

7

u/Friendly_weiner4134 8h ago

You don't have to like them, like I said. Just said they're necessary and don't deserve to die

-5

u/UnderTheCurrents 8h ago

They don't deserve to live either.

2

u/Friendly_weiner4134 8h ago

They do. Because without them? Want to take a guess how the world would be?

-1

u/UnderTheCurrents 8h ago

Biological necessity does not bind me to respect them.

I also already made the point above that I recognize their importance for ecosystems. Did you overlook that part or are you also made up of ganglions?

1

u/Friendly_weiner4134 7h ago

No, but you said they don't deserve to live. Why say that if you also know they are important? Because they do deserve to live.

5

u/Friendly_weiner4134 8h ago

I don't want to be on the same planet as you either 😭

6

u/Python2_1 8h ago

No one wants to be on the same planet as you either gang ✌️

-2

u/UnderTheCurrents 8h ago

People defending the value of insects has to be the most Reddit thing I have seen today.

3

u/Python2_1 8h ago

You see animals as lesser beings, a bit hypocritical

-1

u/UnderTheCurrents 7h ago

No - insects specifically

2

u/Python2_1 7h ago

which are animals

-1

u/UnderTheCurrents 7h ago

Which are made of atoms.

We can play this game ad infinitum.

2

u/BradleyNeedlehead 8h ago

Who are you to judge? Who are any of us?

0

u/UnderTheCurrents 8h ago

A human being.
