Looking for a contractor for Kitchen & around the house updates

Hey all, I’m looking for a contractor to handle a kitchen update and a couple other projects. I would love to hear experiences of the people/contractors youve used. Details of the work I need are below, and if someone can handle it all, that will be great, if it should be multiple contractors, thats fine too:

Kitchen

  • Replace 30" stove with a 36" induction (cabinet/backsplash changes and a 240V circuit as needed)
  • Ducted range hood, vented outside (none now)
  • Replace dishwasher
  • Add pantry cabinet, need to be color accurate with current cabinets
  • Add pendant lights over the island (none now)

Rest of house

  • Replace front door
  • Convert bathroom door to a barn door
  • Open a new doorway to expand the master bedroom closet into an adjacent bedroom (plus closet racking if you offer it)
  • Run a few network cabling from basement to attic, 2 story home. (cameras/home network)

If theres photos of their past work, that would be much appreciated. Hoping to get my answers here. Thanks

Food and Drink Vegan Thanksgiving Meals in Indy

I’m hosting some vegan family this Thanksgiving, and I’m looking for a local option that could provide a Thanksgiving meal for them. My first thought was 10th street diner. I called them and they said they’re not planning on offering a Thanksgiving meal this year.

Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

I've been here for half a year. But I haven't found many places with big portions, low prices, and good flavors, likely because I don't know many people. Help me build my list of to-go places within or close to the 465. Surprise me and thank you!
*No more cafes. My bank account hurts.

Services Recommendations for a good cosmetic dentist in Indianapolis?

I’m looking for recommendations for a cosmetic dentist in Indy who specializes in composite bonding and/or crowns.

I recently had bonding redone on a chipped front tooth, and some of my natural tooth was shaved down in the process. I’m unhappy with how it looks now and have been told I’d need crowns on both front teeth to fix it.

I’d really like a second opinion before going that route. I’m looking for someone who will listen to my concerns, explore less invasive options, and give honest recommendations rather than push expensive procedures.

Any recommendations, especially from people who’ve had cosmetic work done on their front teeth? Thanks!

AskIndy Where are the kids..not to sound like a creep but

My kids are out of school for fall break. They go outside to play but it seems there aren’t any other kids in the neighborhood. I know it is quite a few kids in the neighborhood because they catch the school bus with my kids and it be quite a bit of them on the bus stop. The only kid sounds outside are mine 😔 every now and then we see one or two riding bikes or skates but they are not outside long 😔 so then my kids don’t want to be outside long. When I was a kid you couldn’t keep us in the house. We did have video games but that was for rainy days or after coming in the house for the day. It saddens me that kids are not out enjoying being a kid.

Discussion Dinner Club Idea for Indy, who is game?

Indianapolis Monthly just released top 25 restaurants.

Lots of posts about people wanting to get out and meet others from all ages.

How about a non age specific dinner group where we try to hit all 25 (plus other places as I know the top 25 are $$$) and then we post about our experiences?

We can talk about whatever and just enjoy each others company while at dinner, nothing serious, just some meeting people and fun.

Maybe we end up sharing plates and passing things around to help keep costs not so high.

Who would be up for that, and if you are one of those people, what kind of time frame would you think? Once a month, every other week (with the second week being a cheaper but neat place.)

Additionally, what day of the week is your preferred.

Let's make this a real thing! We all need people to talk with and network with, and we all have to eat.

Discussion Does anyone know where this plaque went/if it will be replaced?

I used to enjoy biking past this plaque, reading up on Indy history and Major Taylor--what a legend! Then it was stolen/taken off by the City for maintenance or something? I don't know. Assuming it was stolen, how do we find out if/when the City is planning on replacing it? It's been gone nearly a year, I believe.

Discussion Any recommendations for a flea market for vendors who want to sell power tools, taxidermy/oddities, and antiques?

I have come into the possession of no less than three very nice Dewalt miter saws, three non-dewalt miters, endless amount of routers, grizzly bits, three table saws, three planers and a bunch of really great quality moody antiques.

Are there any antique malls or flea markets around Indianapolis/Carmel looking for vendors?

Services Recommendations for an honest company the could inspect my deck and either paint it or rebuild it

This is a bit of a long story.

I inherited my house from my folks a few years ago. The house is roughly 30 years old. Unfortunately, my dad could be excessively cheap and sometimes it would bite him in the ass in the long run.

An example of this is fixing something cheaply and then having to pay more to have it properly corrected.

The deck to the house has been a shitshow of a situation. The original builder of the house did a piss poor job of putting it together. So my dad brought in a guy to build supports to it. A few years later another guy came over and added a railings to it. Over the years he would touch up the stain on it and that was about it.

About 3 years ago, I was able to convince him the boards are 25+ years old and touching them up isn’t going to solve things. Some were close to breaking.

I knew a handy man from the gym and he was able to replace the boards to the deck. At the time I was looking at the posts and noticed how they were cracking. After 3 years, I’m noticing that some other parts of the deck are cracking as well. TBH, I’ve suspected that we probably should have torn everything out and just start fresh.

Last week I tried to do some touch up staining and unfortunately it looks bad. At the moment, I have quite a bit going on and me trying to fix the staining won’t happen. In all honesty, it could be a case where if I did it, I might need a professional to correct my work.

I’d like to find a company that is honest and would tell me the deck needs to be replaced completely or not. If they think it’s okay, then I’d like them to stain it or just paint it.

My preference is to go with a company for various reasons.

Edit:
I copied this post and attached photos of the deck to r/deck: https://www.reddit.com/r/Decks/comments/1x6ocso/is_it_time_to_replace_the_deck/ Thankfully, the general consensus is that the deck is fine.

Apartments that accept bad credit in the northern Lawrence, Castleton, or Fishers areas?

We had a bad period of charge offs and account closures and were denied for a place we really hoped to live at and now I don’t know what to do since we move in a month. does anyone know of places in this area that accept bad credit? Income isn’t an issue, budget would be up to $1900 a month for a two bedroom

thank you

I'm looking for stores in the area that sell handmade wooden crafts. Specifically, looking for one that sells jewelry boxes. I know there are a few studios like this down in Nashville/Brown County but hoping for something a little closer than that. Thanks in advance!

Traveling between Chicago & Indianapolis

Hi everyone! I am planning to travel to Indianapolis from Chicago for a concert, and I see that I can take the Greyhound bus back and forth. I was wondering if anyone has any recent experiences with this route that they can share with me? (Also saw people talking about the FlixBus? Would that be a better option?)

For context: I have taken the Metra train in Illinois & I regularly take the bus and the CTA in Chicago (during the day and night lol), so I'm pretty used to being aware of my surroundings & being safe :) But since this would be my first time taking this specific Greyhound route, I thought I'd see if any of y'all had any thoughts or opinions. TY in advance!

Edit: Thank you all so much for all the feedback and advice! Gonna go with Flixbus :) Appreciate everyone's kindness :)

AskIndy Marigolds for Dia de los Muertos?

Good afternoon

I recently lost a pet, and I'd like to put up an ofrenda for her on the 27th. I haven't done an ofrenda in a long time (moved away from family and such), and this is my first year living in the Indy area. Is there anywhere that'd sell Marigolds at this point in the year?

I know its a stretch. If anyone else has their recommendations or examples of ofrendas they've put up (family or pets, all is welcome!), that'd also be appreciated.
