TACTICAL CAT DEPLOYED

335

u/Mochigood 3d ago edited 3d ago

When I saw a mouse in my room late one night, I went and grabbed both my cats, and ran back in yelling "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIENDS!"

121

u/bluealex27 3d ago

Usually when I see a mouse it's because my cat brought it to me, every other time has been outside my house.

50

u/ogreofzen 2d ago

I remember my hamster getting out of it's cage one night. I felt it's little paws climb up my shirt. I remember my hamster has been dead for 20 years. Rips shirt off twills it and hammer throws it into a wall. Damn field mice.

7

u/alocsisdead91 1d ago

Literally the same thing happened to me, but it was crawling in my hair! 😳 and I never had a hamster.... and I have an actual phobia of mice and rats even before that incident.

25

u/Aoiboshi 3d ago

I did that and my car looked at the middle and then looked at me with an expression that asked what I was going to do about the mouse.

18

u/covfefe-boy 2d ago

lmao, if I hear a bump in the night I am looking to the cats.

I'M SORRY I LOCKED YOU OUT OF THE BEDROOM!!! SAVE ME!!!

That had to be a rat. I know the cat is kitten-y sized but that is no mouse.

Right! That's no mouse!

There was a military operation with tactical cats, I will admit I found it while doing a random research while procrastinating, so it may be false but I like to imagine they said that when parachuting them in.

Palworld version: throw your pall out and it uses it most powerful attack and just destroys the house with the mouse. "Well at least it got the mouse..."

24

u/Noyoucanthaveone 3d ago

lol this is the first time I have seen ANYONE reference Palworld in the wild. My daughter loves that game and is level 80 something and has beaten all the bosses. I call it Temu Pokémon with guns and she doesn’t appreciate it.

I had some beef with the fact that in the remake of Pearl, if you don't have a Pokemon that can use the HMs (fly, swim, rock smash etc) then the game says 'A wild Pokemon helped you out.'

Now that I've seen this video, which has perfectly displayed this feature, I no longer have beef with it.

seen this posted multiple times still funny how cat complains at first

448

u/PocketWatchThrowAway 3d ago

Probably shocking for a street cat to just be grabbed randomly and dropped into a house but I've also had house cats complain at me exactly like that for gently asking them to move out of my way so I think the Spirit of General Displeasure exists in all of them

71

u/mecha_grove 3d ago

My boys get mad at me for moving them when they lay on my blankie at my pc gaming station in MY SPOT. Even tho I give them my blankie next to me to lay on

50

u/SeonaidMacSaicais 3d ago

You have no spot. Entire house is THEIR spot.

26

u/mecha_grove 3d ago

I no longer give a fuck I have cat hair in my food, or on my clothes. I just eat, and breathe the orange hairs

3

u/orbitalDriftAK 2d ago

Not the sacred blankie

3

u/PocketWatchThrowAway 2d ago

I recently helped my friends with cleaning their apartment and they had a bunch of boxes lying around that their cats liked to play and sleep in. But they had a shit ton of them so I was asked to get rid of at least a few of them. And when I flattened and gathered about five, both cats dropped in front of my feet to scream at me and to try blocking my path to the back door to throw them out despite there being many other perfectly good boxes for them to use.

I also discovered they are smart enough to understand the boxes being taken away can be a punishment, because I lifted their favorite box as a threat when one of the little shits was clawing at the window screen and he jumped in front of me to start crying.

16

u/ColettesWorld 3d ago

That's exactly how I got my current foster. She was on my porch eating like normal so I stepped out, scruffed her, and maybe 3 seconds later she was an indoor cat. She was upset for about 5 minutes lol. Few weeks later and she runs when she hears the treat bag lol

9

u/AhSalamiBacon666 3d ago

I have a feral cat that likes to sit right in front of the screen door outside, so you have to bump him in the face for him to move. He loves when it takes 3 minutes to get the door open. Lol Other than that, he actually has really good manners.

120

2

u/Yomomschesthair_ 3d ago

I had the same problem just with more than a few rats and I did the same thing and she ate like 6-7 rats that weekend she was an older cat

149

u/Corpus_Juris_13 3d ago

Hope that mouse wasn’t poisoned or something. I’ve seen mice in a couple homes and they’re lightning quick and smart. Never seen one just out in the open like that not giving a fuck

64

u/SummertimeGladness_ 3d ago

This happened at my work recently except it was our friendly owl that ate the poisoned rats and died. We used to have a pigeon problem in our shop but the owl moved in and made quick work of them, but right when he moved in we had our scheduled pest control come out and the poisoned rats unfortunately got eaten. Natural pest control works so much better it’s a shame it happened.

23

u/DollarStoreChameleon 3d ago

thats so awful. i hate poisons. live traps (in case the wrong critter is trapped) or natural native predators would do just fine

17

u/OverfistDerFissierer 3d ago

It could also be this parasite that infects the brain of mice and i also think rats, and makes them get patched on purpose, so the parasite can reproduce inside the cat. I don't know, in which part of the world they are, but if I remember right, it's most of them. So the chance is high, that this hasn't anything to do with poison. Atleast I hope so

12

u/ipovogel 2d ago

Toxoplasma gondii does cause fatal attraction in rodents, but it doesn't look like this. That rodent was either poisoned or smacked with something ahead of time to stun it for this video.

Toxoplasmosis gondii.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/RatofDeath 2d ago

Toxoplasma Gondii! A very fascinating parasite that also exist in many humans. Supposedly humans infected with it are more likely to engage in dangerous behavior like speeding and such. It's so interesting how a tiny organism like that can completely change the personality and desires of a rodent. They actually start to search out cats. It takes away their fear. Purely because the Toxoplasma want to reproduce in a cat's stomach. It's crazy!

5

u/fuzzybasketball 2d ago

The person could also already have clobbered the mouse and just didn't want to deal with the aftermath. So she grabbed the neighbourhood cat to finish the job.

15

u/FrondsFerndinand 3d ago

No offense but so many Chinese animal videos are staged, that mouse looked nearly dead aside from one trail twitch

3

u/ipovogel 2d ago

Probably smacked it with something before filming to stun/almost kill it.

10

u/miemoo 3d ago

Agreed. Hopefully just trying to blend in with the brown furniture and not poison

8

u/Assika126 3d ago

We had mice like this a couple of years ago. Out in the open and could not care less about us or our cat being there. It struck me really weird but they didn’t seem sick, just not scared

4

u/rynlpz 2d ago

Toxoplasmosis would cause that

5

u/Wabbit65 3d ago

Maybe the mouse was used to not having to flee.

4

u/BeatNo4548 3d ago

Sometimes, if they are in an unfamiliar environment, they panic and don't hide.  We brought in a potted plant one year with 3 mice in it, and I caught 2 by hand with a small bucket and trapped the other one.  It was kinda sad, they didn't know where to go.

That “random street cat” will now be waiting outside OP’s door every day, looking for an easy hunt and a full meal.

24

u/kingprozac 3d ago

Just like its ancestors did for thousands of generations

38

u/diadmer 3d ago

My dog saw a raccoon duck into a juniper bush once on our neighborhood walk and she still stops and extensively investigates that same bush every time we pass it, 5 years later.

Now admittedly it’s a juniper so it could well be host to rats or mice. But she definitely remembers interesting spots she’s seen in the past and obsesses over them. She found a mouse stuck in one of our basement window wells and now she spends most of her days camping out observing the window wells, and she didn’t do that before that mouse.

15

u/One_Leg_Kitty 3d ago

Oh my dumb self. I was trying to Google what a Raccoon Duck was.

Also what a cute constantly vigilant dog you have haha.

5

u/pm-ur-tiddys 3d ago

you think she’s forgotten the raccoon, but for some reason has the urge to inspect the bush like “alright, bush inspection. can’t even remember why i do this, but by God this bush is important!”

Had a "mercenary" cat once when I was a kid. I think it was a neighbor's cat but dunno. Anyhoo, there was a cat that kept hanging around our garage for a week or two so one day when my parents were out I let it in to give it pats.

It went straight to our pantry where we had a small mouse family move in at one point. My dad had killed one with a trap but two or three were still back there somewhere but the cat managed to get them all. I think it took him two visits. He never came back to hang out as if he did his contract job and moved on.

271

u/amzwC137 3d ago

I don't know why but it's infinitely fascinating to me that the cat was able to make it out of that unfamiliar place, using a route they didn't take to get inside. I get that it's not dumb, but it's still cool to think about.

100

u/LoneSnark 3d ago

A kitten is accustomed to being carried. They have eyes, they can see where they went and thus where they came from.

81

u/Grosaprap 3d ago

Besides, the kitten knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't...

29

u/AbstinenceGaming 3d ago

Consequently the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't. It follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.

26

u/Ghost_of_Gumby 3d ago

The kitten subtracts the position that it is from the position that it isn't, or the position that it isn't from the position that it is, depending on which is greater.

u/applecombinipimento 2d ago

50

u/RockyCreamNHotSauce 3d ago

Organic brain spatial reasoning is incredible. It takes so little power and data for an animal to learn a space. Birds can navigate thousand of miles to the exact same tree. Artificial neural networks with billions of miles of data and high power GPUs are still about the same level as a cat.

5

u/amzwC137 3d ago

This. As well, how does life experience play into this? That said, we are edging towards a mouse in a maze territory.

8

u/RockyCreamNHotSauce 3d ago

The advantages are hard coded into organic brain structures. Baby mammals can remember and reason through space very early on.

u/E_Dward 3d ago

Animals aren’t dummies. People on the internet, and especially Reddit for some reason, like to ascribe some really dumb and silly qualities to animals.

It’s probably because of the very flawed comparisons between animals and human children. Often we get told they’re as smart as 2-3 year old children, but that’s only comparing things like how many words they can understand or how many objects they can “count” or keep track of at one time.

Dogs and cats are very good at recognizing people and places, and dogs are especially good at recognizing human emotions both through the tone in our voice and our body language.

You won’t see a toddler successfully navigating city streets or deep woods, and they sometimes recognize the emotional states of others, though they are usually preoccupied with their own out of control emotions.

10

u/Xen235 3d ago

People overall judge animal intelligence based on what humans can do today.

Some wild animal won't make a computer or a rocket but go to their environment without any technology and they will be smarter, more resourceful and more capable of surviving than you are. This probably wasn't the case with our ancestors but today most people have lost survival skills and instincts.

3

u/amzwC137 3d ago

I get that it's not dumb

I get that it's not dumb, and that animals are much smarter than people give them credit for. It's still cool to see animals successfully navigate unfamiliar spaces.

Stating my comment another way: seeing animals do clever things without being trained to is cool to see. Albeit, this video is a low bar for "clever" it still fascinated me in that way.

8

u/TheDrummerMB 3d ago

"Wow I can't believe the cat remembered to turn the corner and go out the door it used 30 seconds ago- animals are so smart"

13

u/Ennesby 3d ago

Last month I had to leave the door to my basement open overnight because the chipmunk who got in through that same door couldn't figure out that while he could see through the glass half, he couldn't walk through it...

→ More replies (2)

9

u/Redditron_5000 3d ago

I trust you mean the new route was via the floor instead of in the hand of a person, because that is, in fact, the same door the cat came in through.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/LFP-Throwaway-3982 3d ago

Cats are so much smarter than most people give them credit for. You can agree and fully believe that they're not dumb while still underselling just how smart they are.

4

u/misc1972 3d ago

Cat perception is so much greater than ours. Cat whiskers can detect minor variations in air flow, plus acute hearing. That open door to the outside was unlikely to be any challenge to find

My cat had a vendetta against the new neighbor cat. This cat showed up in the backyard once, sitting there on the other side of the sliding glass door as my car flipped out trying to get through it, and then the cat casually walked around to the side of the house. The only windows on that side of the house that you could see out were the windows in the bedrooms upstairs. That’s exactly where my cat ran to get a visual again on the neighbor cat and continue his threats.

u/Exact-Difference-422 3d ago

2

u/prnthrwaway55 3d ago

You would be able to do it too, why wouldnt' a cat know? It's elementary. And cats have relatively supercharged spatial processing.

3

u/amzwC137 3d ago

I get that it's not dumb

Suffice it to say that seeing animals be smart, is fascinating. Even though this is a low bar for "smart."

It's like looking at an apple fall and being intrigued, only to be told, yeah... Gravity is a thing. Yeah, I know that, but it's still interesting to think about.

You would be able to do it too, why wouldnt' a cat know?

Are you saying this to suggest that a cat can do anything that I can? It's a jump, but why make the comparison?

I grabbed my cat to fight off the cricket in the bathroom. Locked the door with all 3 of us inside to see how he'd do.

Mofo straight pawing at the door and meowing for me to open it up. I know for sure he ain't about that life.

15

u/Beautiful-Cup4161 3d ago

My roomate's cat would corner fieldmice in our apartment but then look back at us like "okay here it is. Go get it" and we'd have to grab the mice ourselves.

After a few weeks, the remaining (or returning) mice wisely just moved elsewhere.

14

u/midwest-emo 3d ago

as someone whose cat actually caught the mice i would have preferred this to having to fight her to get the half dead mouse out of her mouth 🫠 she misses our old mouse infested apartment so bad……personally i do not lmao

3

u/LordIndica 3d ago

I feel this pain... my sweet, spoiled and affectionate cat who normally lets me get away with a lot of man-handling would catch something and suddenly revert back to his brief street-cat life and just refuse to part with this poor mouse clamped between his jaws. He growls, stubbornly hunkers down in place and turns away, yet won't run for some reason, as tho he knows he is being bad but is stubborn about it. I have to jam my finger into his little mouth and pry his jaws open to release the still alive rodent,  then catch it before the cat sees it and re-activates to try and catch it again

3

u/midwest-emo 2d ago

my cat is the same way lmao. i’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old and she was my first cat ever so she is a lazy fat spoiled brat and has lived nothing but a life of comfort and leisure. she lets me grab and hold her however without fighting back and only agrees to play by laying on her back, no running. when i watched her catch a mouse i was like hello who are you and what did you do with my cat?? it took so long to get the damn mouse out of her mouth, she kept running around the apartment with it and any time I got close to her she started doing a low yowl noise at me the whole time, which she’s only ever done when meeting unfamiliar cats. genuinely the only time i ever thought she was going to try to hurt me lmao. it’s insane how hard their instincts are just baked into them.

meanwhile my second cat is dumb as rocks and just watched the other one catch mice while having zero inclination to join in despite having actually lived on the streets lol. and thank god because she has serious boundaries and has hurt me when i’ve just tried to pick her up on a normal day, i’d never get a mouse from her 🥴

Love how this kitten went straight to work. Guess they loose desire to hunt once fed and living cozy house life.

25

u/SteakHuge1017 3d ago

We had house cats, from kittens, some had extreme hunter instinct some did not. Those hunter hunted even if they were fed.

9

u/RagnarStonefist 3d ago

We moved into this old house and shortly after move-in my wife had an encounter with a mouse on a trip to the bathroom. We had a cat three days later, and it went to work. We spent a solid three months finding half eaten mice around the house every few days, and by the time we'd been there for a year, the mice were straight up gone.

7

u/Equivalent-Muscle446 3d ago

I feel bad for the mice in a way, but this right here is exactly why 1 or 2 cats were brought on ships for long voyages either merchant ships or army ships because they found their food stores would be ravaged by mice and they would struggle towards the end of their journey to feed everyone on the ship. Bring a cat or two and that problem quickly gets solved in a massive net positive.

Mice and rats in general are way more agile than they look, so before you think how tf did mice get on a ship on the water, they can either swim and climb, or run across the ropes to board the ships.

You’d struggle to find a well managed ship without at least 1 cat.

We have four cats in our house. Any rodent who thinks they've lost the desire to hunt may test that assumption at their convenience.

The last suicidal mouse who made it into the house had its face ripped off.

9

u/RhydYGwin 3d ago

They're better hunters when they're fed and living well. They have more energy for one thing.

3

u/pullingteeths 3d ago

No. Only about a third to half of pet cats that are allowed out hunt at all. And out of those only half or so ever eat what they kill, and many will be picky and just eat their favourite parts since they have plenty of other food. Cats that hunt to survive or just that enjoy eating what they hunt will be more determined and skilled hunters

This is generally the premise of why having outdoor cats is bad; they're well fed so they have zero reason to hunt outside of instinct and sport, which desimates native animal populations. Not saying street cats don't hunt for fun, but housecats have NO need for it.

Growing up on a farm, there were dozens and dozens of cats over the years. Most of them hunted, but yeah sometimes the cat family had some deadbeats who laid around waiting for a handout from us or the other cats might bring something in. Most often it was a tom who had driven off his brothers and occupied the patriach role.

u/Wisdomisacurse 3d ago

I've seen all these puns before. You're all a bunch of copycats.

3

u/Highlandertr3 3d ago

Damn. Cats out of the bag now.

3

u/Retro_Dad 3d ago

Too bad this ended - I was really feline it.

Cat argue with results.

u/EatShitAndDieKnow 3d ago

Thats a rat not a mouse

10

u/Dron41k 3d ago

Probably very sick rat since it just sits there in the open.

u/WatashiwaNobodyDesu 3d ago edited 3d ago

Hey a good symbiotic relationship here

Has anyone here ever caught a street kitten? Comments suggest not a single person here has, because this is NOT how they act. This is a domesticated mouser and a fancy caption.

EDIT: Yeah, this comment isnt about being capable of picking them up. You could potentially do that to a stray in any countries.

u/onehalflightspeed 3d ago

This really depends on where you are. Street cats are well taken care of in Turkey for example, and perfectly comfortable around people

Street dogs in Thailand are similar

Not all strays are feral. Some street cats are the laziest more cuddly cats you’ll find because everyone in the neighborhood feeds and cuddles them.

u/MasterpieceTimely144 3d ago

Well this is how they act in instanbul lol

in asia my cat was a random stray off the street who i just picked up one day. he was too friendly to the point where my neighbour who hated him just walked over and scooped him up before i was able to rescue him

You haven't been to Turkey

10

u/BusyBanana4205 3d ago

In my neighborhood, it’s pretty easy to earn the trust of a street cat if you are really patient and have food. Idk if they’d be this tame if you picked them up, though. Lol

4

u/JustJoshingWine 3d ago

I would only attempt to pick up a street cat after thoroughly getting to know them. They really tend to hate it

I think you mean to say feral, rather then street kitten.

I always found it ridiculous the mouse just sat there, even after hearing the meow. Hopefully they didn't poison it before feeding it to the cat.

"I found a cat! Cat, do the thing!"

"What are you talking about!? Who are you!? Where am I!?"

"Allow me to clarify." points cat at mouse

"Ah, okay, I gotcha." catches mouse "Mission accomplished. Farewell."

10

u/Seated_WallFly 3d ago

Hmmm…something seems off in this video. The rat/mouse sees the cat and doesn’t move. It doesn’t run away. Why not? Is it sick? Poisoned?

3

u/Ninja-Panda70 3d ago

The kitty meowing at first like, "What do you want me to do bro? Ohh there's a mouse! Got it"

7

u/Many_Ad955 3d ago

That rat looks poisoned. Now you just made the cat sick too.

2

u/D1rrtyharry 3d ago

Wish Tony Baker would do a voiceover for this one so we can hear the “y’all be good praise God” as the cat leaves

And my cat brings them into the house and lets them go.... Which is why she isn't allowed outside after the giant meets adult shoe incident of 2024.

Accidentally went from a street stray to a fully contracted Chief Pest Control Officer overnight. 😭 Talk about an incredible corporate promotion! He looks ready to secure the perimeter.
