If you split your anus wide open, you’ll see hot dense fluids

There is a board game called solar quest. Its like monopoly in space. Every once in awhile at family gathering we will break it out. My adult brothers and elderly father still giggle like school girls as soon as someone gets near Uranus and the jokes start coming.
•
u/Moxypony 3h ago
I believe you are supposed to, and I will die on this hill.
I personally have chosen to believe that the man who named the planet "Uranus" did so intentionally so that people would make the joke. It's the only logical reason I can think of for why it would be called Uranus instead of Caelus. Literally every other planet in the solar system (except Earth, obviously) is named for a Roman god, but Uranus, the only one that sounds like a butt, is also the only one that they decided to name after the Greek equivalent.

I think we should rename that planet.

I always pronounce it so as to purposely be not funny. It ends up sounding like urine-us, but I think that’s an improvement so as to not be a distraction from being able to talk intelligently about a piece of science fact that is super interesting.
•
u/Capable_Tumbleweed34 5h ago
You can just call it ourahnous, it comes from the greek god ouranos after all.

Pronounce it as "urinus" and people will just be mad at you for killing their joke.

It used to be pronounced your-EH-nus until the no fun police showed up

I think the old Roman pronounciation would be more like “Er-Ran-Os” wouldn’t it?
•
u/RedDiamond6 3h ago
Oooh, I like that. It doesn't really matter which way you say it though, the inner child still comes out and grins at the least 😆
