If I told you honestly how long I've been living alone, you'd think I must be nuts. My family was worried about me somewhat but even those days have passed. I support myself and don't get into any trouble, so they have let it go, I guess. I have no friends, but when I want to go out to a concert or something, I freaking go and have fun. I keep busy; that's a key to being alone I think. Also, trying new things and treating yourself - being your own best friend.
I found it very hard and unnatural at first (unnatural because we all have the instinct to need the company of others, worry about fitting in to society, etc) but I wouldn't have it any other way now. I am alone but never lonely. In fact, I've never been more alone than when I was living with someone else. They always turn me into a shadow of myself, so gradually that I never see it until after the fact. It's like people drain me, but alone I can thrive. Even with friends, I can't truly be myself. Can anyone? I don't know. Maybe it's just me. I've been through some shite and it may have warped my view of things. But I accept it now. I accept myself. I didn't ask to be born but at least I can control how I live now that I'm on my own.

Real question. Have you been in a relationship or do you avoid those also? Asking for a friend…

Had one roommate for about 6 months in the last 10 years, cemented the fact that I'd rather be broke than have to deal with other people in my space.

I do, and I highly recommend it.

Waking up and wandering sleepyheaded into the kitchen for some tea whilst naked is the best.

I live with my wife and two grown kids. We're all introverts though so it works out

I'm from a poor country and lived in student accommodation during university days then back to parents house for 5 years after graduation. Now I migrated and after living in 6 shared houses, I live in my own place. No friends, no gf, just enjoying the peace in regional area for now

I live with two of my siblings, one of which is also an introvert so it’s not too bad.

I like with my grandpa (grandma died) but he’s mostly out and about these days so it’s kind of just me for the most part

I went through 3 years of living with different roommates in undergrad, each put me through traumatic experiences to say the least (I wish I was joking or being dramatic 😔)… I vowed to NEVER risk my peace in the future again by taking a chance on another roommate who might end up being worse than those I’ve already lived through #ssdgm

Yeah I’ve just bought my first place by myself.
I’ve found I’m actually way more inclined to go do things that I wouldn’t have done before because I have the mental bandwidth now. Before this I lived with people and it drained me so much that I didn’t feel like doing anyitng social, to the point of extreme burnout.
But now, even though I love my alone time and my hobbies, of which I have way more time for, I actually feel like going to see people. I’ve never felt that before. It’s really nice.
I recognise that im fortunate to be able to have my own place. In today’s world it’s not an easy thing however, I feel it’s changed my life from feeling like being introverted was a burden on me mentally to me now seeing it as a great thing that should be celebrated. I choose when I see people and that’s powerful.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that if you can do it, do it. My quality of life is so much better now. I have a safe place to recharge

I live alone, and have done so since the last shared housing I was in maybe in 2013. I had a dog for nine of those years, though. I also have a cabin in the forest I stay in by myself from time to time.

I'm 66 and I've lived alone for the last 33 years. In fact, I haven't had a visitor since May 3, 2016. Still work full time and go places on weekends but spend a lot of time alone. I really like being alone.
