Image Going out by myself is one of my favorite pastimes
galleryAnd I’ll talk out loud to myself too, I don’t even care anymore, I like my own company and I think I’m pretty hilarious.

I desperately know I need a friend, or even a few, but I'm struggling to push myself and go out/do things that generally allow for meeting people. I'm going through a very painful, sad, and difficult breakup with someone I dated for 2 years and thought I'd marry, and I only really have my parents to lean on for support. I feel super alone and isolated - I had to move back in with them due to financial reasons and being tied to a mortgage with my ex, and am just craving some social interaction and happiness.
Being introverted and shy has always held me back in that way, and I'm really struggling to go out and do things to boost my spirit alone. My whole adult life (29/F) I've just done things with my family or whoever I was dating. How can I push myself to go out, try something new, and make a friend or so?
I don't drink much and I saw a Kava bar near me has events every week (bingo, arts & crafts, and a book club). I enjoy gaming on Switch but I feel I'm struggling to find clubs or groups in general.

i’ve been building a little side project and one of the things on it is an introvert/extrovert quiz. what bugged me about most of these is they just give you one label. this one breaks it into six things: how friendly you are with new people, how much you like being around groups, assertiveness, pace, excitement seeking, and cheerfulness
i expected to come out introvert across the board and i didn’t.
it’s 18 questions, takes like 3 min
gethappyme.com/assessments/introvert-extrovert
i’m more curious about this than anything. did it match how you see yourself, or did one of the six surprise you?

I'm 20 and if I'm not going to work, getting groceries, or something in the sort then I like to just cooped myself in my house all day long for multiple days and I love it, especially when I'm alone.
I know I might sound crazy but I honestly kinda liked and miss COVID because of the pandemic that made us stay inside and a lot of people say they hated it, but man did I love every bit of it and never understood why people wouldn't love it. You're saying that I'm required to stay inside all day being away from people? You don't have to tell me twice cause I love to do that anyways.
I heard a lot of people say this is a bad thing and I can see why for some people but I really love it and will take any chance to do this. Being able to sit on my couch and watch my favorite shows and movies, play my favorite video games, and lay down on my bed while reading books and listening to music all day sounds like a dream to me. I just feel like I can completely be myself when im at home compared to when im out in public.

So I’m getting engaged . And my engagement party is going to be 200 people against my will. My mom and mother in law want to invite everyone they’ve ever known. I keep getting into arguments with my mom about why it has to be this way. She keeps telling me engagements and weddings are social events, and I can do what I want afterwards. I can’t fathom why it would be necessary, why we HAVE to have 200 people at an engagement party. I get so frustrated trying to convince my family that it doesn’t have to be that way. But they keep telling me , why? Why don’t you want to go all out and celebrate? You should be excited for this! But I’m like… why would I? Why would I want to? Why would I ever have the urge to celebrate with that many people? Can someone please explain this to me.. because it feels like I can’t defend myself to my family. They make me feel so weird and outrageous because I want to have a small party. Don’t even get me started on the wedding lol.

How do i find friends who have the same interests as me. Like it feels like i know a lot of people but not on a deep level. Im like too cool to be weird and too weird to be cool so im like stuck in the middle. Im also pretty introverted so i dont have the balls to just walk up to someone in public and talk to them

I entered university about a month ago and my flatmates are so nice to me, we are all introverted and it has been the best few weeks so far. However recently I noticed that there was internal desire in me to go out to make friends and not stay inside all the time. The crucial bit is that I like to make meaningful relationships and I am a huge depth seeker for conversation.
I met 2 friends from my lectures who were incredibly nice, one of them likes to go to cafes which is more my style but the other is more into partying which is surprising as she is pretty quiet.
Yesterday the party friend invites me to a pub crawl social which is hosted by her society, so I decide to push myself and go with her as I heard people saying a pub was more chill than a club.
The first pub we went to it was fine and I did talk to one other girl but she quickly went to her own friends for a smoke which is not my sort of thing. The sad part is the more pubs we went to and the more intoxicated these people were the more stimulated I was and the conversations just got more terrible and exhausting to maintain that I started to feel a headache. I remember the friend I went with initially she started to be more touchy with me when she talked to me, such as grabbing my shoulder ect. and she would constantly say I love you, and I hate it so much because I don’t like saying I love you to people who I have just met a few days ago, it is weird to me but I had to say I love you back to shut her up.
At one point it was too much for me and I noticed that my friend was no where to be seen and I was sat on a table, holding her phone and bag, surrounded by her society mates and I was talking to nobody as they were so loud and just too much for me. I found my friend on a table with a group of guys trying to get to know them all and I just knew I wanted to leave so I had to walk 30 minutes by myself at midnight back to my accommodation and it was horrible. I slept at 2am and woke up at 9am and I had the worst dream.
My dream was about me stuck by myself in a pitch black bedroom that was post-party and there were food and crumbs all over the floor, cans and bottles of drinks, condoms and the worst bit of all was seeing the drugs and needles all over the floor and I woke up and I felt horrible. I hope my feelings are normal to feel as I feel as if I violated my feelings and body. I may have not seen any drugs or needles upfront, but I know very well this happens a lot behind closed doors.
I hope my story is not abnormal and that people can relate to this, as I am still a young person trying to navigate through life while still being true to myself. I don’t want to change myself to please others. I just wanted to put my experience out there to know I am not alone in feeling this sort of way!
I don’t hate people who like to have fun this way but for me this is not the way for me to have fun personally. My body last night definitely warned me that I have a different form of connection with people and I have let people cross my boundaries when I shouldn’t have.

I've been really struggling to make friends recently. I'm about a month deep into UK 6th form (I'm 16) and I find it really hard to just approach people, more so people my age, I'm kind of okay with adults, still not 100% tho.
I asked one of my friends who makes friends rlly easily, how she manages to do so, and she gave me some great advice, stuff that I'll remember for a while, but the thing I just can't do is approach people. It's all well and good giving me this info and advice but I just can't do anything with it. Even if a person is sitting alone, I wouldn't be able to approach them.
Do you think it's a good idea to ask my friend to do some of said advice with me? Like, ask her to come with me while we or just one of us approaches another person?
Or could I perhaps ask her to demonstrate while I watch from a distance, so I can see how she does it and how the other person acts? I kind of think this would help me, being able to see it in real time and for me to see that it's really not that bad.
I've said something similar about my situation before on a similar subreddit, but no one commented, and that really wasn't helpful.

I like my friends but god I just wanna stay home and do nothing 😔 I kinda feel like I’m torturing myself sometimes when I do I know that’s so mean but like I just get tired and it feels awkward after a couple hours and I don’t wanna talk. I can only make up so many excuses not to do something and it just feels like a chore to hang out with people
except my partner… I could spend every day with him… but I feel like I can be myself around him and there is no need to try so hard idk

I feel extroverts play life at easy mode, or they make it seem like they do. Sometimes I just wish I was an extrovert. I do like the pros that an introvert has but having the ability to be extroverted at my choice would be such a cool superpower.

There is this girl in my class whom everyone generally likes (or at least tolerates), but she has a very strong 'pick-me' / attention-seeking vibe. For some reason, she treats me like I'm stupid and sometimes throws backhanded, passive-aggressive comments disguised as 'cute' or jokes, accompanied by a specific look.
Out of nowhere, she’ll randomly ask me intrusive or weird questions (like 'have you ever even been drunk?' or 'what music do you listen to?') not because she actually cares, but just to mess with me and poke fun at me.
Honestly, my only coping mechanism so far has been to mock her back, but I hate doing it because it feels like I'm lowering myself to her level, and it just drains my energy.
How do I handle this maturely? How can I shut down someone who tries to undermine me without giving them the satisfaction of knowing they bothered me?

I'm really a quiet person and that sometimes comes across as cold or distant, but really I'm the opposite, I care a lot about people, it just doesn't show.
I'm not trying to play the victim or anything, but it does mean that I get misunderstood more than id like. A part of me wonders if this kind of personality seems better on men, meaning that quiet men can come across as "mysterious" but a quiet woman can be "unfriendly" and "boring". Has anyone else felt this? Did you find people who actually get you? Id like to know there's hope. thanks :)
