Misc I want all teams to be 1 box
I don't care if they need to make the boxes bigger or expand the MSRP range, I just want teams to be a one and done. I want every team box to have enough bodies and equipment to build all options out of the box and to have that all in one container.
Give me a 19 sprue IA box for $250 I do not care, I just want to be able to buy a single box and have the team.

u/sinesnsnares Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 31 '26
I’m okay with multiple box teams. I like the variety it adds. What I would like is more direction as to what I need to buy to play a team. Like the blades of khaine box should have “expand with howling banshees and dire avengers” on the cover. I had to go on a YouTube rabbit hole to figure out what were one box teams, and what other boxes to combine with the leftover bits to make a full wrecka crew
3
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
That's the stuff I'm trying to avoid. When I said one box, I did specifically say have ALL customizations in that box. Have the BoK box contain the scrops and banshees and avengers all in the box.
3
u/sinesnsnares Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 31 '26
I see the appeal, but personally I like the smaller boxes. Right when I was starting 40K back in the 00s I’d just buy squad boxes that were cheap and looked cool, build them up. The fact that I now have a game where I can do that while slowly getting an army together is a big reason I decided to jump back into the hobby.
I do think there’s a world where both can exist though. The smaller squad boxes needed for 40K, and a big set that has the whole team, maybe some terrain and themed dice or something.
0
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I don't play 40k so I have no comparison point for that but I want specifically complete teams available every time. No more "oh but don't forget the ogryns" like they pulled with Ratlings or the travesty that is building BoK
88
u/VeryOddish Jan 30 '26
The biggest annoyance for me was the fact that there's not really any indication that Ratlings were going to be anything other than what the box indicated. A sniper team that uses traps and movement to evade direct combat. And then I found out like just prior to buying the box that I needed to get Ogryn to have full options for my team. A sudden $60 purchase in addition to the Kill Team box I was already willing to pay for made me far less inclined to ever give them a shot.
35
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I was so close to buying Hobbiton's Most Wanted until I found out the big guys weren't included. Totally killed my joy. My first team was Yeagir's and I think that's the correct setup for a team, except that I'd like some spare bodies to kit the options for Warrior equipment.
-4
u/Purple_Comfortable38 Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26
I’m confused - Hearthkyn Salvagers are leagues of votann. Ogryn are Astra militarium. How are Ogryn needed for a killteam of hearthkyn salvagers? It’s not listed in the operative selection (looking at the killteam app). Edit - I see where I went wrong here - this is for the Ratlings KT.
5
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I didn't mention Salvagers? I mentioned Hobbiton's Most Wanted which was a joke about Ratlings who do use Gryns, and compared their box to Hernkyn Yeagirs.
1
u/Hrothgrar Space Marine Jan 30 '26
They aren't. You misread what they meant.
Ratlings/Ogryns are separate from Votann.
13
u/Kai_Lidan Jan 30 '26
Nono, you misunderstand. It's not that you have to pay $60 to have full options.
You have to pay $60 to have a playable team.
Full options (without magnetizing) is $420 (2 Ratlings boxes and 5 ogryn/bullgryn boxes).
24
u/VeryOddish Jan 30 '26
The more I learn of the intricacies of Kill Team, the more I'm glad my friends and I just tend to go "Yeah there's a dude. He has X gun. I wrote it down here. I painted him blue. Anyway let's play."
28
u/Kai_Lidan Jan 30 '26
To be fair, I've never met anyone that actually cares what the model's weapons are. We just declare them before the game.
My bullgryns have the slab shield and maul because that's the coolest equipment, but nobody has ever said anything when I declare I'm running brute shields or grenadier gauntlets with them.
12
u/Flat_Explanation_849 Blades of Khaine Jan 30 '26
No one I’ve ever played KT with cared about wysiwyg.
5
u/Minimum_Opportunity Jan 30 '26
Hell, even some bigger tournaments dont care about wysiwyg. Just as long as each model is distinguishable and its declared who has that before game
2
u/SteelCode Jan 31 '26
Outside of very competitive tournaments (average TO allow some flexibility with equipment selection and individual operative appearance), the only thing that matters is that your model is clearly identifiable as what you claim it is.
If you hold up a dude and say "this is my missile launcher dude", that should be enough for your opponent and most casual games.
2
u/roguemenace Jan 30 '26
5 ogryn/bullgryn boxes
I think your math's a little off there.
5
u/Kai_Lidan Jan 30 '26
Nope.
One box is for ogryns and the rest for the 4 different loadouts for bullgryns:
Power maul and slab shield.
Power maul and brute shield.
Grenadier gauntlet and slab shield.
Grenadier gauntler and brute shield.

u/SteelCode Jan 31 '26
$60 if your LGS discounts GW product... teams are ~$70+ these days direct from GW and "complete" kits are inconsistent between teams.
1
u/Kai_Lidan Jan 31 '26
I'm spanish so I used the figures I've seen thrown around by US players 😅
They're ~44€ here, between import and tariffs you guys have it rough.
5
u/OmegaDez Wyrmblade Jan 30 '26
They mentioned Ogryns being an option from day one.
11
u/VeryOddish Jan 30 '26
I walked into the store and said "oh that looks neat. I'll do that." and then someone warned me about the Ogryns. How would I know? I don't check the sites, I was just getting into Kill Team. Went into a store. The box doesn't tell you. If I hadn't lucked out with someone there who knew, I'd have bought half a Kill Team.
-6
u/OmegaDez Wyrmblade Jan 30 '26
Well.
I guess my circles and I don't interact with the Warhammer hobby the way you do. I tend to read rules first before buying anything. I guess it sucks for people who buy first without knowing how things work.
6
u/Spannaway Hunter Clade Jan 30 '26
I get what you’re saying, but if this is someone relatively new to the hobby, they may not be aware of just how expansive the game is or to check out online resources first. They saw a product labeled for killteam, and liked the look of it. They wanted to pick that team up, and in terms of purely looking at the box there’s no reason to suspect you’d want an entirely extra box of Ogryns that’s not labeled for killteam at all to play with the original ratlings box.

u/DuePerformance3863 Jan 30 '26
I agree with the sentiment that they should design the teams to be one box
21
u/zoley88 Jan 30 '26
Multiple box teams are just a slap to the beginners. You need to do heavy research into this topic or you build a subpar team and suck.
8
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
Sometimes you do the research and still build a subpar team and suck
3
u/d3northway Deathwatch Jan 31 '26
Do what I do, build a great team, do lots of research, try multiple teams, and still be bad
1
u/Rexai03 Jan 31 '26
You can even do the research, build a great team and suck! Happens to me all the time.
Might be time to face the fact that I suck at this game.
2
1
u/EvidenceHistorical55 Jan 31 '26
And that exact point is what has kept me from actually jumping into killteam despite having been interested for years.
1
21
u/BufoCurtae Jan 30 '26
I agree, but I don't even think we should have to settle for having a one box option that is hilariously expensive to make up for the logistical inconvenience. Modern warehouse tech has come a long way and I don't think we should accept something like a $100 premium to get like, Chaos cult in a single box.
I get that some of the team options not matching up with singular sprues means that we'd have a lot more expensive single team boxes for some that need a double up, like say, deathwatch, and that's totally fine. Same with the teams that never even had a box option like Warpcoven and would basically be a collection of 3 boxes. A $20 - $40 premium over the cost just buying them all separately would be fine to me.
4
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
My high priced example being IA was purposeful, since they have the most possible options between bodies and equipment. I think GW is up-charging pretty hard but I can't really pretend that IA wouldn't be more sprues than most 2 team plus terrain boxes given the sheer number of choices there, assuming they include ALL configurations.
But you're entirely right about warehousing and shipping.
5
u/xXStunamiXx Jan 30 '26
I wouldn't mind if they were even two boxes for all options, but yeah, I would prefer having the ability to field all possible specialists without having to scavenge across 4 different kits. Even Deathwatch needs one more Gravus body and DW shoulderpad.
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
See I don't want a second box for all options, I specifically want one box to have everything in it, even if it's more costly or bulky. One and done purchases.
6
u/Steko Jan 30 '26
GW: we hear you and are removing a bunch of specialists and options.
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I'd probably be fine with that, I'm both simple and basic. A boss nob and a billion grots is still a team.
4
u/Steko Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26
I don’t think you’re wrong to want one box and agree that simplifying some teams might be worth it. I do think many people with similar views are too attached to WYSIWYG and exaggerate the need to have another 5 warrior models they’ll never use to qualify a team as one box. Between painting choices, light kitbashing and legal proxying, ,far more teams can be run as one box than the sub gives them credit for. That could be clearer to new players but that’s not just on GW, the community is part of the confusion.
Edit: The desire for every team to be X, Y, Z is also limiting on the design space and may not work as well in practice as you expect. The fact that some teams and 40k factions are whale friendly probably also subsidizes the cheaper options.
If one box is very important vote with your wallet and only buy the older one box teams which they will eventually pick up on in the data.
2
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
My biggest issues aren't actually running one gun as another. That bugs me a little but only a little. My big issue is BoK and IA and Ratlings where you need units that don't come with any version of the KT box to have all options available.
I want to have every option of Deathwatch in one box but that isn't nearly as high on my list as Ratlings have Ogryns and Bullgryns in the boxes.
12
u/SnoopinGrouper Blooded Jan 30 '26
I see where you're coming from, but my personal preference is the opposite. As someone who enjoys the building and painting process as much as playing the game, being able to mix and match kits is my favorite part.
Funny you mention the IA team, I'm currently building them and being able to buy a cheap kit with the tokens and a bunch of extra arms and heads and then build ton of custom dudes with all the spare parts brings me joy.
At the end of the day I think its good theres a mix of one box and multi option kits, but I can see how it can be frustrating especially for new players who arent as familiar with the range.
5
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
As someone who only plays KT and got into it at the end of the '21 edition, it's pretty shit to be unable to get my hands on something like IA without buying a dozen different eBay orders. I want to go to the GW site, give them some digital money, and get a complete team.
I think customization is cool, there was a guy on the LoV subreddit today who bashed together squats that joined the Greater Good and hat Tau symbols and helmets on his guys, I think that would be killer on some Hearthkyn. But I want the base team to be in one box, all wrapped up neat and tidy.
7
u/TranslatorStraight46 Jan 30 '26
I don’t understand the fixation with one box. It just grossly limits the design space and scope of what teams can be to whatever GW is willing to sell in a single SKU.
Half the fun is making decisions, adding new stuff later, magnetizing. Squeezing kill team operatives out of free monthly models has been a minigame for me.
6
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
How would it limit any of that? Just put all the choices in the box.
That said I don't live near a Warhammer store, I don't get monthly freebies and if I want a new box I'm stuck fighting it out with scamper bots on the website. That may contribute to the different viewpoints.
1
u/Pleasant_Narwhal_350 Jan 31 '26
Because in modern KT, some bodies can be built as multiple KT operatives. Take Stealth Suits. A certain body can be built as Infiltrator or Neutraliser. Each option comes with 2 weapon options, so there are 4 possibilities.
If you want the team to be truly one-box where you'll never need any extra bodies, GW either has to ship 4X the bodies with the same rules while raising the price, or change the rules such that you have no alternate build options at all (like current Plague Marines). I don't like either option, and prefer the status quo.
3
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 31 '26
Yeah, and I want the first option you listed. All bodies, more monies.
At this point I think the best compromise is something like premium boxes that do the thing I want, and still maintaining the existing box setup for people who don't want that. But I do want to be able to pay a premium to just get it all in one box; every operative, every option, every token, all of it.
7
u/zrrion Jan 30 '26
On top of this, they shoild design models w/ equipment options to be magnatozed by default and should include the magnets you need to do that in the box.
3
4
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
Absolutely. Hell I'd buy the magnets from GW if they used a standardized size for all models.
I also want terrain made with magnet points in it. Magnetizing Volkus was ok but tedious.
11
u/MTGDad Jan 30 '26
Seconded. It's honestly not super friendly to the whole sales pitch of 'buy a team and play the game'. It baffles me how extra is involved in getting a single team with most/all of the variants.
3
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I had hoped the issue was resolving with the '24 edition and yet Ratlings
3
u/No-Rip-445 Jan 30 '26
TBH, I universally prefer two box teams to one box teams. I like to have lots of options and different operatives and the current structure lets me buy a team, try it out, and then expand to “all the options” if I like the team.
Those one box, no options, mono pose teams suck.
Edit: except starstriders, those guys are cool.
3
2
u/RexamiII Feb 01 '26
The frustrating part is GW won't ever do it because they're a public company and the 30% profit margin 😞
3
u/Non-RedditorJ Jan 30 '26
Won't happen because every team is designed to be a 40K unit out of the box, or later with a upgrade screw removed.
8
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
Just because they won't do it doesn't mean I don't want it.
4
u/SteelCode Jan 30 '26
I'd argue that what they really need to do is drop the "generic warrior" operatives from every team; I think a "gunner" or "sniper" operative is fine but every team having a generic "trooper" is asinine for the aesthetic of this "specialist strike team" game...
Every faction should be Leader + X specialists with a 1/team selection (outside of specific factions getting multiple gunners or snipers). Grenadier, Comms, Medic, etc all make sense as a "trooper with special ability" model and there is absolutely no need to have teams include extra "chaff". This would help trim model selection so the "box" is more self-contained for options and if you want to build every individual operative you can magnetize or buy a second box - but at least it isn't impractical to build your full team when you need 10+ models and the box barely builds 10.
That said; some teams will absolutely need to be reworked/redesigned to remove the chaff troops - GW just seems hesitant to rework existing teams and instead relying on the edition cycle to slowly retire old kits by force...

u/Produ01 CHAOS (or so) Jan 30 '26
I think we should have KTs that are only one box MINIMUM.
For example, the Deathwatch, but I want the OFFICIAL option to only buy extra bodies cheaper to put the rest of bits I have left on them.
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I want the whole lot all at once. Gimmie everything.
1
u/RunningPupper Jan 30 '26
Obviously doesn't work for all teams but I bought some wargame Atlantic miniatures to make the kill team boxes go further. Use the wargame atlantic for bodies and legs and all of the extra bits from your kill team box like heads, weapons, etc to make the rest of your roster. Once they're painted they hardly look different! :)
1
u/Thramden Kommando Jan 30 '26
Careful what you ask for lol, there's still time to edit that MSRP
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I may have to save up a bit but I'm ok with it. My bills are paid, I don't have kids, and I have decent free time.
1
u/razulebismarck Jan 30 '26
I don’t. Maybe “A team in a box” But I want points costs and options. The ability to take a Crisis Suit, A pathfinder, and some drones. Or 5 Necron Immortals and 1 Warrior. Or 10 Flayed Ones. Or An Intercessor with Grenade Launcher, Tactical Marine with Rocket Launcher, Scout with Rocket Launcher, Tactical Marine with Plasma Rifle, and an Assault Intercessor with Power Fist.
The thing I miss most from Kill Team 2 generations ago is actually making “my own” team. I doubly loved having the 20 man roster so I could change my team between matches. Just putting 3 Crisis Suits with 3 Plasma into that roster made people have no idea how to handle Tau…Am I bringing all 3? 1? Or the 17 other models…

What’s the difference if you’re happy for boxes to cost more. To just buying multiple boxes ?
2
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 31 '26
There's tons of boxes where even getting one is a pain, especially at release. I want to buy a box at release and know I'm getting the whole lot and not have to wait 6 months for the rest of it
There's also boxes that won't have everything no matter how many you but like Ratlings and BoK and IA. I don't want to have to go buy unrelated supplement material, I want the ogryns and banshees in the damn box from the start
-1
u/ImplementNew9267 Nemesis Claw Jan 31 '26
Part of the charm, doing your own research and optimising what boxes to buy. I believe in you to add more to your cart and get the result your chasing.
2
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 31 '26
The result I'm chasing is one box teams, thus the post.
-1
u/ImplementNew9267 Nemesis Claw Jan 31 '26
So for murderwing you want 7 chaos lords, and 14 raptors in the box? Can you understand that’s just not required for 99% of the community hehehe. For round maths would be a $270 box for 3 lords and 15 raptors. Then another 4 lords is what $200 more…..

I'm mostly annoyed about the Ratling/Ogryns and BoK and IA situations but I do want enough bodies to build every option. Teams like Deathwatch where you'd need at least 2 boxes to build every guy are annoying but not the end of the world.
Given that KT is the only wargame I play I just want it to be complete on its own.
1
u/EpsilonArms Jan 31 '26
Better yet have them premagentized 1 box team, pay $20 dollars more. All done box the same size
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Feb 01 '26
That doesn't solve the ratlings missing Ogryns, the IA needing multiple other teams for a complete backup roster, the BoK being like 1/3rd of their possible team comp, etc
1
u/EpsilonArms Feb 01 '26
I was expanding. Yes give all models needed and for any variants of a model (or say like deathwatch gives you 5 for 11 operatives) have them premagnetized . $250 is crazy high though for some extra bits of plastic you truly need
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Feb 01 '26
Yeah that's fair. I think perhaps tiered boxes might be the solve, along with actually including the necessary models
1
u/AppropriateSolid7836 Jan 30 '26
One box to test, if I like it I’ll expand. If it’s the loadout that I wanna try differently then I made them. Then I make it clear at the table with my conversations and making sure I have the right cards printed with only the load out in question.
Then if it all pans out. Buy more.

u/MarioMCPQ Farstalker Kinband Jan 30 '26
I like your take. NGL.
Make it 300$. I don’t care. I want THE WORk!!
1
u/iribar7 Jan 30 '26
That wish of yours would go down in one of two ways:
EITHER the teams stay as complex as they are, but would need way more sprues to actually cover every variation on operatives and weapon choices. Which means that the boxes would get so expensive, that the player base you complain. Not complain like now, where they players grumble, but buy the expensive plastic anyway, but to a point where sales would tank. Which leads us to ...
OR the teams get so boring when it comes to choices, that players would feel robbed of a fun and intergral part of the game. All of a sudden, hard limits on operative and weapon choices with only minimal wiggle room. Player would hate that.
So I see where you're coming from. The wish that everything is contained in one box, is not bad. But it would make the game worse, I'd say.

u/RearedMeteor420 Hierotek Circle Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26
Fucking magnets, how do they work?
Edit: welcome to warhammer this is how the game works you want immortals but can't decide between Tesla or Gauss? magnets or buy another box
Im pretty sure the single box they offer is what makes the 40k unit as well and or just buy the bigger box that comes with both teams and sell the other team you don't want. In the case of vulkus and tombworld... congrats you got some badass terrain now too and don't have to rely on other people to bring their terrain
Unless you are trying to play classified teams then thats kind of a you problem as they are classified for a reason even tho they can still be used in casual settings. but its all supposed to work for both games big 40k and killteam
So to come full circle this is how the game works They make a sprue and mass produce it for big 40k, then make an upgrade sprue and slap that in the box too thats how 90% of the team are in kill team
2
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I'm partly talking about equipment that can be fixed by magnets, yeah, but mostly I mean stuff like IA backup forces, alternate BoK setups, Ratlings needing to buy Ogryns boxes, stuff like that. I want all the options in one box and it's not just having the guns and stuff but whole versions of the teams sometimes need entirely unrelated products.
1
u/RearedMeteor420 Hierotek Circle Jan 30 '26
Sorry I did an edit but moral of it is to use killteam stuff in big 40k stuff and vice versa
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
I do not play 40k and don't really have an interest in doing so. I want kill team to be complete on its own.
-1
u/TheWolfAndRaven Jan 30 '26
I want the opposite. Give us some compendium teams again so 40k players can list build and then get dunked on by the box teams.
0
u/R1cky_R3tardo Feb 01 '26
There are filler bodies floating around the internet that you can get for a few cents a piece. They don't look the best but they are 98% passable and do a good job of bulking up unit lines with those spare bits you probably have laying around.
-2
u/DiscussionSpider Jan 30 '26
I'm going to go opposite. There should be no team boxes. Kill Teams should be able to be assembled from units you already have with flexible loadout rules.

-1
u/ImVeryVeryTrans Jan 30 '26
Honestly yes. My enthusiasm for the murderwing kill team was killed when I saw that I'd need at least 2 boxes. It's just... frustrating.
4
u/APieceOfToast_bruh Jan 30 '26
but you dont? its a 6 operative team, you get 6 in the box
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
But you can't build all possible options with just those 6, same problem as Deathwatch
4
u/TranslatorStraight46 Jan 30 '26
The alternative is simply getting less options. Everything will be like Raveners where you just build all the specialists and everyone plays the exact same team composition.
2
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
Or they just put all the options in one box. If they're already making the options, just toss an extra bodies only sprue in the box, slap another $15 on the MSRP, and call it good
2
u/TranslatorStraight46 Jan 30 '26
The entire reason we get as many options as we do is because they repurpose bodies to have multiple builds. Most specialists options are just a different set of arms… they would simply limit it to one specialist per body.
1
u/IconoclastExplosive Hernkyn Yaegir Jan 30 '26
Well that's not what I'm asking for and, as previously established, just cause they won't give me what I want doesn't stop me from wanting it
1
u/ImVeryVeryTrans Jan 30 '26
So yes, it would be a perfectly functional team. But there's a bunch of specialists that you'd have to choose between. I enjoy the list building aspect of the game, and I think the sisters team was brilliant with that. 10 bodies and you bring 9. You do want some more warriors maybe? But I'm fine as long as I can make all the specialists and one generic lad. which you can't with murderwing. You have to make choices, which makes it annoying if you didn't make one and want to run it. Yes you can proxy, but it would be way nicer to have all the options.
