Misc Won Regionals with my Aquilons

Went 8-21-19 at my National tournament with my Tempestus Aquilons, beating Canoptek, Raveners, and Wrecka Crew.

GW also has a great organized play pack for Kill Team btw - got great art prints, objective markers, measuring thingy and a gorgeous medal!

Drop in hot, kill them all!

But my two-cents would be to be very patient, identify priority targets whose death means winning the game, use melta gunner and grenadier to take them out, then just focus on scoring crit and tac while avoiding any unnecessary combat.

You have to be very patient, Aquilons is a very reactive team.

Drop in non-essential operatives in one side of the board where the enemy is thinnest, use those to secure the closest objectives.

Second round you should identify priority targets, and send your melta gunner, melta grenadier, and precursor after them. Tempestor is a good killer against anything that has less than 12 health too.

Once you kill enough, just focus on scoring and avoiding unnecessary combat.

That's all!

Drop in hot, drop them dead!

Thanks a lot for this. I'm just starting with kill team after years of being a lore and video game fan. Decided to go Aquilons for my first team because they seemed cool and not too hard for a beginner. I'm now busy painting them but already super excited to start playing.

Damn.. these looks great. I'm doing a similar black armor, violet cloth...less shiny scheme for my scion focused AM army (using kitbashed Aqulions for most of the tempestous scions). The red glow looks surprisingly good.

Looks like there is a lit of 3rd party in there, GW allows that?

There are a few 3rd party bits there, but most are kitbashes from all over GW kits. Shame, cause the official Aquilons set was pretty damn good too, but I already had these models for Scions.

The TOs didn't seem to mind.

It was against Canoptek. The game lasted just until the end of round 2 cause my opponent played very slowly.

If it was a regular game, I'd probably win by 15+ :P

We can easily destroy all Elite teams, Raveners are an easy pick against us.

As a new player, I got hive storm and have yet to have it click what makes them elite killers. I can take out one unit with a melta but after that I struggle to get in range of anything and just feel like a sitting duck for elites to charge me or have double shots. I have found it feels close to impossible to contest the middle objective marker vs elites. So far my games go, i kill and elite TP2 with a drop, and then hide and try to score as much as I can on the tac op. I just get mowed down and every unit outside of the Meltas and plasma feels like trooper fodder vs elites. I keep hearing we have a great matchup vs elites but I don’t see it / get it yet . Congrats tho and sick medal

Use your regular dudes to contest mid board as bait. If the enemy elite bites, send the melta grenadier. If not, free points.

You have 2 great and 3 mid tools to deal with elites, everything else is expendable, to be used as bait or objective scorers.

What do you typically have out on the field TP1? Do you keep troopers in the sky for the extended drops?

Nah I use troopers and sniper for the tp1 deployment. By the end of TP1, all those are in range to rush to objectives, do actions and act as bait.

What tips do you have Vs raveners? I've only played a couple of games against them but lost each time due to them staying in tunnels till tp3 when drop is gone
