Question new ork homebrew kill team?
Can I make a homebrew Kill Team with the new Orc Nobs? If so, do you have any ideas on how to build it?

Rumors are that, since they're not releasing with the codex, that they'll be a killteam unto themselves during initial release.
Which means we'll be in a Tankbustas/Breaker Boyz or Space Marine Scouts situation where a must have unit for the army gets sold out because both Killteam and Wh40k players are fighting over it.

u/Crisis_panzersuit Aug 11 '26
Not a fan of the unit overlap between 40k and KT

u/RaccoNooB Neophyte in hiding Aug 11 '26
I am a big fan of it.
It means its not another TTG. Its hard enough for people to sink time and money into a TTG. Asking them to do two will leave you with even less.
KT got around this somewhat in that you can use them for both. Yes, the downside is people are fighting over limited boxes, and maybe I'm a bit unsympathetic here, but other than OOP Kill Teams and the latest and greatest, which units are you not able to get?
I dont see the need to own every cool new team on day one. Cool if you got a box. I'll wait for one to come around once they've split them up into seperate boxes.
I dont think Kill Team would exist without 40k. And I'm super happy I can use my models to play both gamemodes, which means I'll not spend another $150 to replace the three Kill Teams in my army.

It also leads to much more boring kill teams.

u/Crisis_panzersuit Aug 11 '26
Kommandos were peak, change my mind

u/Equivalent_Store_645 Aug 11 '26
I wish I could but they’ve never been beat both in quality of models and in overall flavor and feel.
That’s how you make a team feel unique and interesting without a dozen pages of complex rules.
Those were the good old days. Kill team has lost its way.

u/Blanck7 Wrecka Krew Aug 11 '26
Killteam dose not sell well enough to make killteam only models often

u/Equivalent_Store_645 Aug 11 '26
Remember back in kt21 when people would look at a newly released team and say “aw man, another team that’s just an upgrade sprue?”
Now it feels special to even get an upgrade sprue. So all the team flavor comes from pages and pages of Byzantine special rules.

It's not going to change no matter how much you dislike it bud.

Very productive comment

u/MortalSword_MTG Aug 11 '26
Crisis_panzersuit cries about KT units getting 40k rules a few times a week.
Anyone who thinks GW is going to stop linking the two systems to encourage stronger sales isn't thinking clearly or effectively.
3
u/Crisis_panzersuit Aug 11 '26
I have mentioned it twice before, I think. Thats enough for an entire week if I do it a few times a week.

u/MortalSword_MTG Aug 11 '26
It's okay friend, I too sometimes rant about things that won't change. We all do
5
u/Crisis_panzersuit Aug 11 '26
Shit, I thought I had seen your name around, you want KT to play like MTG.
I thought we ended on an amicable tone to agree to disagree, but clearly you felt more salty about it.
Considering that a lot of people in this hobby takes the time to paint their models, you’ll find that a lot of those same people don’t want weekly power-creep releases of push-fit models. You are free to disagree.
2
u/MortalSword_MTG Aug 11 '26
I don't necessarily have a problem with you personally, but your attitude is that GW should change a successful business model and thriving game system to suit your personal wants, and those wants don't jive with the rest of that thriving community.
I take issue with your detachment from the reality of the situation.
3
u/Crisis_panzersuit Aug 11 '26
No you assume it doesn’t jive with the rest of the community, and that I have an unpopular opinion…But we won’t know till we discuss it and see what the community thinks as a whole

Why wouldn't he? Voicing your opinion is what it's all about
4
u/MortalSword_MTG Aug 11 '26
Because it is fruitless?
What good comes of complaining about a core business strategy that GW will not change while it continues to prove successful?
0
u/AlpakalypseNow Aug 11 '26
This is such a strange hill to die on. Communities like this exist to have discussion even if it doesn't improve things. Why complain about anything for that matter? Chances are you aren't able to change it anyway
7
u/MortalSword_MTG Aug 11 '26
Truthful answer?
It's my hill to die on because the Warhammer community as a whole has become filled with entitled whining.
Nothing is ever good enough, GW always too greedy, didn't make what I wanted, the way I wanted it, didn't market it he right way, didn't release it at the right time, it's not old school enough, it's not innovative enough, etc etc
A huge portion of this fanbase has started defaulting to just whining endlessly. It's high time people check that attitude.
An honest gripe here or there is one thing, but continuously harping on the same unchangeable issues isn't productive or helpful and it doesn't embetter the community.
2
u/Equivalent_Store_645 Aug 11 '26
lol the community has “become?” Complaining about gw decisions is a time honored part of the hobby tradition and it’s been this way since I got my first models, a box of pewter mordían iron guard.
Complaining is a part of the hobby and this is a place for discussion of the hobby. Get used to it.

I completely disagree and I honestly think this is a you issue.
A community is made up of many people and each of them has a different thing they don't like so of course there are going to be complaints about everything. I don't see how this affects you and I bet you have things you don't like about Warhammer. How would you like it if somebody took his blackpill rant out on you everytime you criticized something?

didnt they say recently that they are only doing original units for KT from now on? or does that not interfere with this?
5
u/Alive-Ad-3303 Celestian Insidiant Aug 11 '26
By “original” they mean brand new sculpts. They’re not doing upgrades for existing models anymore, they still use Kill Team to refresh old stuff.
2
u/FISH_MASTER Aug 11 '26
Don’t say that. I don’t need more orcs.
(Spoiler. Everyone needs more orcs)

You assume it isn't going to be a Killteam. The article states the Nobz are coming after the codex. Back when they showed off the additional releases for SM during 10th edition, they showed the Scouts which later released with the updated Eldar Striking Scorpions.
31
u/PleaseNotInThatHole Aug 11 '26
Being painted as anything but Goffs for promotional shots also suggests they're a separate product if that makes sense
7
u/Misknator Nemesis Claw Aug 11 '26
Well Valrak did talk about a Nobs killteam, so maybe
2
u/beary_neutral Aug 11 '26
He originally thought that Meganobz were coming as a Kill Team, and then later changed the rumor the Nobz. After the Exodites box was revealed, he walked it back, claiming that he got Nobz confused with the Beast Snaggas in the box. Looks like he may have been right the second time.
That said, Valrak is usually right most of the time. He just tends to misinterpret what he sees or get thrown off by anything that isn't a Space Marine.

u/GreenbottlesArcanum Aug 11 '26
is he right or does he make 10 minute videos about every different blurry pixel or 3rd party account he hears so something has to end up being right? 😂

There's a decent chance that they will get actual Kill Team rules when they are released in a few months' time. The reveal article yesterday specifically said they will be available to purchase later than all the other Ork reveals, it's likely they've only been revealed early because the models appear in the new Ork codex that's up for sale soon.

u/GreenbottlesArcanum Aug 11 '26
specifically said they will be available to purchase later
yeah this was a big tell especially with orcs being front and center in the new edition and still having massive holes in the release of new content for it!

You mean like as a proxy of another team? I think the only Killteam fully on 40mm bases are ravenors.

u/UpCloseGames XV26 Stealth Suits Aug 11 '26
Could maybe get some of them on 32s, armour them up and make them Marines stand ins? Or an alternative Wrecka Krew?

u/Lord_Ezelpax Ecclesiarchy Aug 11 '26
Dam people are so far detached from making their own rules
Homebrew is not proxying, its creating your own house rules, including custom killteams. It's very fun, I've see quite a few homebrew teams being posted here aswell

u/MortalSword_MTG Aug 11 '26
Most people don't possess the skill set to not homebrew something that is either completely broken (op) or completely broken (unplayable).
Kill Team is a high skill expression game with most players focused on competitive matched play mindset. Home brewing for that audience is brutally tough, even the experienced designers at GW don't always get it right.
2
u/Stormfly Aug 11 '26

Yeah but even the official teams are described as both by many people here.
The "sweet spot" changes from person to person, it seems.
I think that many homebrews are broken one way or another (because they need more testing/experience) but many official teams are described as broken so I don't think that's much of a criticism.
If you're only playing games with your friends, it doesn't really matter much, really.
Although I remember making a Killteam 1e team for Sisters of Battle before they released and gave them a Multi-Melta option and that was a bad idea. We learned that in the first turn. The rest was almost the same as the White Dwarf team that came out later (although mine were pricier).

u/Lord_Ezelpax Ecclesiarchy Aug 11 '26
I get you, but the thing is that it doesn't have to be perfectly right, taking an existing, simpler team and changing it to fit the one you have is a great way to get it roughly on par with others, but sense of balance and gamedesign just comes with experience.
2
u/MortalSword_MTG Aug 11 '26
Well yeah, I think using an existing team as the basis is a good developmental starting point.

2
u/kohlerxxx Aug 11 '26

u/lordstickmax Aug 11 '26
Doesn't make sense for them to be announced this way if they are
5
u/kohlerxxx Aug 11 '26
You mean in an article saying they are coming after the codex. Both myself and another commentor have already pointed out how they did exactly the same thing with the SM Scouts reveal at the beginning of 40k 10th edition

u/grimdarkdork Aug 11 '26
the 2018 version had nobz as a viable team... I used to run them will killsaws and flamers... 'twas beautiful
1
u/TheWolfAndRaven Aug 11 '26
If they don't get Kill team rules I'm gonna knock them up as some flavor of Astartes team. Not sure which, but a Wolf Scout proxy with a buncha AOS squigs on a base sounds neat.
1
u/jjjjssssqqqq Hearthkyn Salvager Aug 12 '26
Let's hope so, they are clearly a good looking Killteam
1
u/Billy_Darkholme Aug 11 '26
Unfortunately there is no team with 5 operators and 3 minions. Maybe as a deathwatch proxy. Legionaries would fit if there was one dude more.
1
u/Troyleek13 Aug 11 '26
It will be, they are multiple youtubers with friends who work at GW that says it will be sold as one, maybe with an upgrade sprue or like the raptors
5
u/MortalSword_MTG Aug 11 '26
GW stated with KT24 there would be no more upgrade sprues. Any Kill Teams going forward will be designed to have all the options as part of the base kit.

Probably won't need to homebrew anything, I think it's very likely that they turn out to be an actual Kill Team just like the rumours were saying.
Compared to the previous kit they have new weapon loadouts, (big shoota, big burna, dual kustom shootas, dual klaws) which are referred to as "specialist gear" in the reveal article, as well as two more grots than they used to.
They are also said to release later, and painted as Bad Moons rather than the standard Goffs, which wouldn't necessarily mean much on its own but combined with the other stuff it seems relevant to mention.
It might seem odd then that they didn't even mention KT in the reveal article but a very similar thing happened with Space Marine Scouts in early 10th edition.
The Scout kit was first revealed alongside the other Space Marine Codex stuff at Nova 2023, August 31st. With no mention of Kill Team:

It wouldn't be until later in October during the Warhammer Day reveal show that it was revealed that they were part of Kill Team: Salvation:
