Question If you could wish one kill team what would you pick?
I would love a Legion of the Damned or Black Templar team if they werent get the casual, boring Space Marine rules but some unic stuff.

Sisters of Silence
29
u/Thewhimsicalsteve Aug 27 '26
Came here to say this. Sisters need more variety and Custodes needs some too.
10
u/shoots_and_leaves Aug 27 '26
How many units would a Custodes team have? 4? 3? I can’t imagine 5, since they’re so much stronger than space marines and the deathwatch already have 5.
Or three Custodes with 2 SoS?
19
u/FarseerTaelen Aug 27 '26
A mixed compendium list was 2 Custodes and 5 Sisters, right? Maybe that would work.
7
u/MrCynicalSalsa Aug 27 '26
I miss the bonkers compendium custodes/sisters team. It was a blast.
6
u/FarseerTaelen Aug 28 '26
And with Raveners and Exodites, it's not like there aren't super elite teams out there already. These would just have the eliteness even more concentrated.
3
u/MrCynicalSalsa Aug 28 '26
I feel like custodes with 4 apl and 4-5 operatives being op for a while in the last edition, then being nerfed and being underwhelming walked so that the Raveners/Deathwatch, and units with 4 apl like the dino elves or papa patriarch of the brood could run.
Looking at Exodites I don't know that they're running very well, but it seems like the stage is set for their recovery. Some of the abilities of the team seem to be sprinkled amongst a few teams from this season, like the anti psychic celestians, 4apl powerhouse unit Exodites, and 5 man teams
2
u/Warlords0602 Aug 28 '26
Do the custodes usually bring retinue other than sisters? Could be like 1 or 2 custodes with a few relatively less elite units.
5
u/Tiny-External2826 Aug 27 '26
Maybe Just 1 shield captain and sisters of silense as the rest of the team, 1 shield and 1 blade champion at most maybe, that or make a special nemesis custodes with the sisters
6
u/ThrowACephalopod Aug 27 '26
1 custodian as a nemesis operative would be extremely silly and I'm all for it. It'd be hilarious.
2
u/User_Not_Pickles Legion of the Damned Aug 28 '26
Maybe like Exodites of 3 custodians and 2 sisters,

Honestly this seems so ripe for kill team. Unique characters with different roles (designs don't even need a major overhaul) and has an existing fan base. It would feel like a missed opportunity if they didn't make Last Chancers.
61
u/Due_Skill_7467 Aug 27 '26
Demons with new sculpts.
3
u/420fastcars69 Wyrmblade Aug 27 '26
I want daemons too but I don’t think it makes any sense for them to be doing most of the crit ops- how is a bloodthirster compiling data? And why lol he just wanna compile skull piles
Maybe something like chaos cults where some evil freaks (3-5) summon daemons and they summon more and more daemons as the veil thins over the game?
8
u/Bagern13 Corsair Voidscarred Aug 27 '26
What data is a Tyranid compiling? The crit ops don’t have to make sense.
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (1)2
u/Tiny-External2826 Aug 27 '26
Being honest, that fail to make sense Even in Big 40k, so i see no issue of that here, also maybe they have personal missions, or just reflavor existing ones with warp BS
63
u/BipolarMadness Aug 27 '26
Daemonettes with a new sculpt. The "current" sprue is already 18 years old. If they already re-released the Thricefold Discord in AoS and have updated sculpts like Raveners and Raptors, they should do an update and Kill Team for Daemonettes.
Any demon unit really at this point.
3
u/ET_Gamer_ Aug 27 '26
Is it really?? That’s the only Chaos Daemons kit I’ve purchased because I thought it looked newer than most of the other ones. All the other chaos demons horde/infantry units all looks super old and clunky and out of date. I feel like I wasted money now.
2
u/HaggisAreReal Aug 28 '26
Daemonettes vs Grey Knights sounds like the perfect edition launch box bringing a model refresh for both factions. I am almost convinced they will go this route at some point because is just so obvious.
85
u/Thenidhogg Imperial Navy Breacher Aug 27 '26
Penal legion!
37
11
u/BipolarMadness Aug 27 '26
The only problem is finding a way to make them not just a copy paste of something like Blooded but 2.0
4
u/mervolio_griffin Aug 27 '26
I actually see that as a benefit. Next edition we won't have Blooded anymore : (
If they're a reasonably close proxy people with Blooded teams might not have to buy a new team to keep playing their models WYSIWYG in the next edition. Or do so with minimal conversion/bits addition.
3
u/ET_Gamer_ Aug 27 '26
I’d really like Savlar Chem Dogs.
2
u/Fear_The-Old_Blood Legionary Aug 29 '26
Arguably the most interesting regiment, they'd make a sick ass kill team!
2
u/D3ldia Aug 27 '26
I know people hated the communion points for vespids, but i loved how flavorful it was that you were a tau handler trying to wrangle these guys to stay focused on objectives and not fight the first thing it sees.
I would like the penal legion to have something similar to where they need to be kept in line and had some resource to represent forcing them to follow orders.

23
u/LordIndica Aug 27 '26
I am hopeful that we see more alien auxiliaries for the tau that haven't been explored before. There is so much potential in a bespoke xenos faction.
Also, Dark Eldar Beast Master team.
This is a group of models that have been removed from the DE range for far too long, and it could be an exceptionally interesting design.
One central guy, our Beast Master, accompanied by his horde of Beasts, Ur-ghuls and Khymera, Clawed Fiends and Razorwings, maybe even some crazier stuff.
Or maybe we refresh the Court of the Archon? Something to justify a Lhamaean and Medusae alongside Sslyth body guards. The DE in general have a bunch of amazing potential for cool kill teams because of their focus on being raiders
22
u/No-Construction-981 Aug 27 '26
A horde tyranid team!
8
u/Smart_Shine6835 Aug 27 '26
Not sure if it counts at all, but I’ve been using the red terror npos with their kill team rules. It’s a lot of fun!
2
u/VagueCyberShadow RAVENERS 25d ago
Yes absolutely! I've been doing the same. Makes for really good casual games. The general lack of access to rerolls and randomized activations makes the team pretty interesting to play imo!
3
u/Tiny-External2826 Aug 27 '26
That sounds great! I Even imagine a version with the parasite of Mortrex, and having more than one way to make more and more models, so the horde feel really endless
14
u/Lord_Wateren Exaction Squad Aug 27 '26
Mixed Daemon team, like 2 from each god or something. Or do something like Blades of Kaine, so you can mix and match yourself.
Vashtorr Daemon team, a bunch of cyborg daemon specialists could be super cool (and provide a new undivided unit for 40k)
A weird team of various Tau auxiliaries. So like 1 Tarellian, 1 Galg, 1 Charpactin, 1 Nicassar, etc. Maybe a Tau, Gue'vesa or Kroot/Vespid
7
u/left-Dane-right-Dane Aug 27 '26

Thematic Alpa legion operatives, perhaps one of them would be a alpha legion chaos marine (leading the team)

Definitely more interesting daemons and I don’t even play chaos. In fact, daemon models have stopped me from doing anything with chaos because they all look dull, cookie-cutter minis. Someone said daemonettes, someone else will say flamers or horrors. Why not a chaos vs chaos box of daemons.

Wraiths with one or two seers, with a control mechanic that seers have to use or else the wraiths act like NPOs
Repentia, tired of pulling my hair trying to make them work as Goremongers (fuck you TLOS)
A viable Thousand Sons team
Any Drukhari team to replace HotA
A Kill Team made of only Trazyn the Infinite (and maybe a couple bodyguards). Once per TP, twice per game, he can spawn a half kill team of your choice, any. Oh, the glorious mess it would be.

Warhammer heroes kill team of exclusive aspect warrior sculpts for a special Blades of Khaine KT.
Would have more than just the 3 aspects available now and an Autarch
Some like 2x dire Avengers, a fire Dragon and dark reaper, a warp spider and a couple of the melee aspects
3
2
u/BigHandInSky Kasrkin Aug 27 '26
I think from pure vibes I bet Thousand Sons would make a good fucked-up-little-guy and Terminator/two astartes team. Something like warp chaff operatives for a couple elites to play around.
Alternatively: as someone who's building their first World Eaters models for 40K, I think a team of bezerker specialists competing to become a champion (like one who gets a buff and the rest are debuffed until they kill/wound?) Could be very fun.

u/Lanaestra Aug 27 '26
Honestly the dream for me I think would just be for a few teams that are rotated out/about to not get ported to the next edition to get a refresh with an extra sprue and a few new specialist options, something like an expansion for Corsairs or Farstalker Kinband to keep them in the game would be extremely welcome.
Failing that, a new Corsair team I guess. I would say jump corsairs but they just got models with no Killteam (though honestly a white dwarf style team for those would be welcome, if they still did that kind of thing). There needs to be more elves for killteam or by the time next edition rolls around the only Eldar in kill team will be Exodites, and while I do love them, they are uhhh. Not a normal team.
If that all wasn't an issue, my first instinct response is more tyranid teams, would love some purestrain genestealers for kill team. I do also love the idea of a drukhari beast master team or court of the archon coming back as a kill team, too.

I would love a Nurgle demon faction that plays heavily into creating and using plagues as a weapon.
Maybe have something like you pick the symptoms before the game and then during the game the plague you created is what you use. You can even have a ploy that allows you to change it once per game or something like that.
You can have some of the symptoms also affect you in positive ways another symptoms affect the enemy and negative ways so you could be creative depending on the team you're going against.

I'd love a Catachan Kill Team. I love the Spectre Squad and I'm glad we have them but I was a bit disappointed they didn't turn out to be Catachan.
Actual Genstealers (not Cults) as a kill team would be cool with maybe some unique mutations perhaps. Special maws and appendages.

For me, one of the following:
Lucifer Blacks - They just fit the theme so damn well. I know nobody wants to see another guard team but this one would be just too cool to not introduce.
Death Company - Great way to give them a refresh and to bring some personality to the Space Marine teams that seems kind of lacking.
The Fallen - Could really see some cool themes with this since Daddy Lion is back
Carcharodons - Really would love kill team to be a chance to introduce some smaller chapters not really represented. Their recent book trilogy was insanely good. A small strike team with maybe one of the red brethren. Cosmetically, would be so damn cool.

A dual kill team ; Drukhari Bloodbrides / Ynnari Deathbrides
In addition to turning every wych gladiator weapon into an individual different operative bloodbrides offer support operatives like combat drugs specialist, poison specialist, pain mistress etc while deathbrides has psychic/soul shenanigan specialists
Bonus point for a beastie ( maybe something gyrinxish that with a few small swaps is a more commoragh worthy feline )
Kind of cheating, but thats the one I pick with only one ;)

An enslaver and a bunch of different units it's mind controlling. The enslaver would be the one unique operative, and the rest of the team would be made up of operatives from various other kill teams, like Inquisitorial Agents on steroids. Players who have multiple kill teams get to reuse their units, and people who don't now have an excuse to buy more boxes. It's a win-win.
1
u/Hyperrblu Tankbusta Aug 27 '26
I'd love for them in a future edition to replace the full marine killteams with a team of just one marine and his chapter serfs or something, obviously balanced to make that marine able to take on a full other team. Could also be a chaplain and his retinue like grimaldus, for chaos it could be an apostle and his cultist disciples or a sorcerer and his lesser daemon familiars (like nurgling level not like bloodletters and daemonettes)

Trazyn the Infinite might fit the kill team game play better than the main army system. Considering the fact that a number of the unique units across the board have data cards that stand out on their own.
Give Trazyn a unit rule that lets him "Pull from his collection"; one unit from any Kill team upto a maximum of 5. You can have 7 pre chosen before the match starts. No 2 units can be from the same Kill Team.
- On the board. A model of Necron Scarabs act as the warp point. Until the chosen model is Warped in from the reserves.
Or the new Red Corsairs as a "Raiding Party".

Bland as it sounds a Genestealer team with a kill team upgrade sprue that can be used to make other Genestealer units.

A Tyranid team that was a horde team. Or maybe it could be modular, like a Hormagaunt/Termagant is worth 1 squad building point, a Gargoyle is worth 2, and a Warrior is worth 3 and you have 14 points to play with.
And maybe you could spend command points directly to spawn in reinforcements. As a strategic gambit you can spend X amount of command points to spawn in any one Tyranid model worth X squad building points or something.

An elite Tau stealth suit team that can shoot twice. Even if it just takes the fusion colliders an extra AP to do it

All grotz. Could be in some sort of kans, or just on foot.
Another tyranid team, but a horde instead of elites.
Penal squads like the Last Chancers.
