Grammar The news in easy French: Le premier iPhone pliable d’Apple est épuisé en quelques minutes

Les stocks du premier iPhone pliable d’Apple se sont épuisés quelques minutes après l’ouverture des précommandes vendredi. L’iPhone Duo est le premier téléphone d’Apple à avoir un écran pliable. La version la moins chère de l’iPhone Duo coûte 1 999 $. Le téléphone s’ouvre comme un livre et a un écran plus grand à l’intérieur. Quand il est fermé, il a un écran plus petit à l’extérieur.

Vocabulaire : pliable = foldable / s’épuiser = to sell out / quelques = a few / précommandes (f pl) = preorders / écran (m) = screen / chère = expensive / s’ouvrir = to open / livre (m) = book / fermé = closed

English translation

Apple’s first folding iPhone sells out in minutes

Apple’s first folding iPhone sold out a few minutes after preorders opened on Friday. The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first phone to have a folding screen. The cheapest version of the iPhone Duo costs $1,999. The phone opens like a book and has a larger screen inside. When it is closed, it has a smaller screen on the outside.

Translation Help! Beginner needs help with a song transcription

Bonjour! I’ve started learning French at the A1 level, and I’m trying to make the learning process more enjoyable and build a connection to the language through music. There’s a song I really love, but I can’t find the lyrics anywhere online. I’d be very grateful if someone would be kind enough to transcribe them for me. The song is called Rossignolet by the canadian duo Bette and Wallet, a somewhat obscure folk duo from Quebec that I’ve just discovered. Thank y’all so much

Question French listening

I’m a native Arabic speaker and I also speak English and German very well. I’m currently learning French and I find it impossible to understand the language when I listen to it. It’s very different from English and German where a word has somehow a clear start and end but in French it’s just syllables merged into each other. How can I improve my listening skills?

Question Thoughts/recommended changes/additions to my language learning

Hi all,

I'm learning french and currently am using

Assimil, I have the app course and I will stick to 1 lesson a day as suggested

Busuu, this is just extra.. I will use it for 10-15 minutes a day

Speakly, this has a strong focus on repetition, again I'll use it for 10-15 minutes daily

Dreaming french, I will use this for 30+ minutes a day

All times I'll probably adjust as and when I see fit but currently I think this is reasonable

Any massive holes in my approach?

Question How can I learn a language outside of my lessons?

Hi everyone!
I’ve recently started learning a new language (French A1)through lessons, but I want to make progress outside the classroom as well. I never had engaged with the language before. For those of you who have successfully learned a language, what did you do in your free time to improve faster? For example, did you watch movies, listen to podcasts, read books, use apps, or try speaking with native speakers? I’d especially appreciate advice on how to build a daily routine and make the most of my time as a beginner, without feeling overwhelmed.
What actually worked for you, and what would you recommend avoiding?
Thanks in advance!

Speaking Practice I wanna speak French but talking to people is the hard part

I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately, and studying French is one of the few things I actually enjoy doing, which is great because I have to. Except...talking to people...in French...who I don’t know...anxiety inducing...

How are you all combining the usual suspects (duolingo, youtube, podcasts, etc.) with speaking practice? I just discovered this website/app called praktika that seems like it might be useful since I could have conversations with it without talking to an actual person, which might help my anxiety.

Is it worth integrating into a daily practice? What does your practice look like? How are you all ensuring you’re learning and not just collecting language learning apps?

fellow introverted language learners, please tell me i’m not alone here

Question Is learning French worth it for non native english Speaker?

I’m a non-native English speaker, and I want to learn another language as my fourth language. Which language would you recommend? Is French a good option?

I currently live in Asia, but I plan to move to Europe or the USA within the next one or two years.

If I start learning French, how long would it take me to become conversational and reach an advanced level? I can dedicate around 2–6 hours per week to learning it.

Resource Recommendation Finished learning French grammar — how should I start preparing for TCF Canada (March 2027)?

Title: Finished learning French grammar — how should I start preparing for TCF Canada (March 2027)?
Hi everyone!
I’ve been learning French for a while now, and I’ve recently finished studying most of the essential grammar topics, including present tense, passé composé, imparfait, futur simple, futur proche, conditional, subjunctive, pronouns, articles, and prepositions.
However, I feel like knowing grammar rules and actually understanding or speaking French are two completely different things.
I’m currently around the A2 level, and I recently attempted my first TCF listening practice test, where I scored A2. I also find myself mentally translating French into English while listening, which makes it difficult to follow conversations.
I’m planning to take the TCF Canada exam in March 2027, with a goal of achieving NCLC 7 in all four sections.
I can dedicate around 2–3 hours daily to studying, with additional time on weekends.
For those who have prepared for or passed the TCF Canada:
How would you recommend transitioning from grammar study to actual exam preparation?
What resources helped you improve your listening and speaking from A2 to B1/B2?
Should I focus on general French comprehension first or start practicing TCF-specific questions immediately?
How did you stop mentally translating everything into English while listening?
Is reaching NCLC 7 by March 2027 realistic from my current level?
I’d especially appreciate advice from anyone who started at a similar level, including study routines, useful websites, YouTube channels, podcasts, or mock tests.
Thanks in advance!

Question Are listening and reading questions in TCF canada still being repeated?

Last time I gave, listening and reading questions were 100 percent repeated in exam. I practiced mock tests available on sites which uses same questions. I scored c2 in both listening and reading but failed in speaking. Anyone who recently gave tcf canada in india, can please tell if it's still the same? or have they started adding new question sets?

I have my exam on AF bhopal

Question Looking for French tutor (teaching in English) online or based in Copenhagen (available Mon or Tue nights) :)

I am looking to learn French! I am a complete beginner but know some words in French as my boyfriend speaks both French and English as his native languages. We would like to move to Geneva or Luxembourg eventually so I need to learn French asap. I am looking for a tutor who can teach in English and provide a study plan/guide :) I can also practice my French during the week with my boyfriend to help things along outside of lessons. I am based in Copenhagen, so any tutor based here would be a plus if we wanted to meet offline at any point for a lesson. I am available on Monday and Tuesday nights (at ~17:30) Thank you in advance for any suggestions! :)

Speaking Practice I’ve finished the languagetransfer and Paul Nobel’s courses and am midway through Michel Thomas’, what are some other good audio resources that focus on speaking skills rather than just listening?

For those that haven’t tried, the courses I listed feature a structure where the narrator prompts you in English to say a phrase, there’s several seconds for you to attempt it, and then they give you the French translation. LT is free and Nobel’s and Thomas’ courses are free for spotify premium users btw

I’ve found them very helpful in that I could work on active production and not just listening skills like with regular podcasts, and I could practice hands/eyes free while driving, doing chores, etc. I also use the Natulang app that is geared around this style, which I like a lot!

Any recommendations, especially if they’re on spotify, would be appreciated!

Resource Recommendation Need a French Tutor

I am currently at a b1 level and need somebody who’d take me to c1 level as soon as possible, which means I need a tutor who is a C1+ in french. Kindly recommend a teacher you’ve had an amazing experience with, preferably based in India (but doesn’t really matter because I’d be taking online classes).

Question Looking for TCF French test prep book recommendations

I am looking for some good book recommendations to help me prepare for my TCF exam. I have covered all grammar topic s till level B2. I am looking for a book or a website which provides TCF mock tests (listening with transcripts).

To give you some context:

  • My goal: B2 level or more in all 4 modules
  • My preferred learning style: Mock tests

Are there any specific textbooks, workbooks, or reading materials that completely changed the game for you?

Thank you in advance for the help!
