A lot of players who are playing bots will get hit with en passant and think it's a glitch and then ask about it. It seems like a glitch because en passant just kinda happens instantly and the pawn seemingly takes a piece it shouldn't be able to, and there's no explanation of what happened, and, like castling, it's a weird rule that most people don't know about. Id play the occasional casual chess game for decades and had no idea what it was.
There's also like 8 sequential responses to 'google en passant' that I don't know the origin of.
Iirc a lot of the chain happened when someone asked ChatGPT to make responses to it or something and all of them were dogshit, so ofc they will be used in the sub for eternity
the sequential responses come from people getting way too into the "guys we have an inside joke" thing when the sub went mainstream during the api changes (and it stopped being a chess sub- rip)
People in r/anarchychess will individually comment letters spelling G O O G L E E N P A S S A N T whenever a poster asks what to do, whether the player can do en passant or how good that move is, is irrelevant.
