It’s been a while since we’ve had a top metal releases chart voted on by the subreddit. As such, we will be conducting a poll to determine what the most cherished metal releases are in the community. To participate, just comment an album/ep/demo that you love or scroll through the comments and upvote/downvote releases as you see fit. The 100 most upvoted releases will form the community top 100 metal releases chart, which will be used for another upcoming community event. A few rules for the polling:

This is definitely one of my most anticipated Fridays of the year, which makes the fact that I'm too busy to get much listening in pretty unfortunate. That said, I pre-ordered the new Insomnium on vinyl, so I've had it since Tuesday. While it's not as good as their best stuff, I'm comfortable saying they've added another great album to a career of great albums. I'm gonna try to get to new ones from Mother of Graves, Iapetus, Veilburner, Shores of Null and Morgue, as well.
What new shit are you listening to today?

This band is so incredible, nearly every album is banger after banger. The insanity of Hall of the Mountain King, the tragic brilliance of Handful of Rain, and the expert songwriting on Poets and Madmen. Jon and Criss Oliva are and were some of the best musician of the 80s and 90s, and Paul O'Niell was one of my personal favorite producers.

Suppose my example isn't exclusive to metal, but I really dislike bands using the self titled naming convention for any album that isn't their debut.
Metallica, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Alice in Chains, Helloween, Annihilator, Killswitch Engage and many more are all guilty of this. Just comes across as lazy to me.

If you only go to big concerts and ignore your local scene, trust me, you shouldn't. Try to go to the local gigs as much as you can. They are cheap but I will always have huge fan and meet really cool people

The earth shattering riff should be the first thing you hear.
Classic examples:
Jag Panzer - Harder than Steel
Manilla Road - Necropolis

I didn’t meet their drummer, he was out smoking pot. They gave me a signed poster and signed the bill of my hat. The bassist recognized me from the previous nights show even.

I have problems with my ears because of metal 👂🏼
I've been listening METAL for almost 1 year, I really like it when it's so heavy like "scourge of iron" by cannibal corpse. The thing is, I started noticing that my sometimes ears annoyed when I listen to some music, even if it's not metal or loud.
Sometimes I can't distinguish the musical instruments when they overlap, and the sound interference can sometimes be annoying.
Sometimes I feel like I can't stand the electric guitar. I mean, it hurts my ears and my ears just can't take it.
I also watched "Sound of Metal" movie, I feel afraid.

"Ohhhhh, Baron Jeffery von Dahmer is actually such a teddy bear in real life! Sure, his band Rotisserie Kindergartner had lyrics and a stage show that would have made Mengele puke, but he's just the nicest, most charitable guy!"
Which guy... wasn't? As in, the evilness was no mere act? Varg comes to mind, but who else? Or even if they weren't cartoonishly evil, but just nasty pieces of work? Seth Putnam comes to mind, possibly.

I'm rather picky about music and don't have a clear idea of what exactly it is that I like. Often I try recommendations based on what I Iike that should be similar yet don't end up liking them.
What I like that is:
These bands don't classify as metal, I believe, but they can be heavy and I love them:
Some death metal rips for me like Entombed or Amorphis. I really like their riffs but something about albums as a whole fail to keep my interest.
Problems I have when finding music:
A good chunk of my list is prog, doom, and stoner. Here's problems I encounter with each:
As for common recommendations that I tried but have never clicked with:
Idk, it's a real problem since I'm often in the mood for heavier music yet I seemingly bounce off so much of the heavy stuff I can find.
TL;DR Picky about metal, but I seem to have a preference for prog, doom, and stoner metal or a preference for heavier alt rock (maybe, genres are complicated) Trying to find metal that scratches the itch in my brain for heavy music that I enjoy.

Whitby, Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦
Genre: Progressive Metal, Metalcore
Man, I really slept on these guys. I remember having a friend in college hyping these guys up around when Volition was out and I just didn’t give ‘em a proper try. They’re really a nice cross of the Metalcore I enjoyed when I was younger and the more technical Metal I enjoy now. Volition is an amazing album. Kept me locked in every minute with banger after banger - 10/10 without a doubt. Within is their newest and shortest album, but man is it fun. Really heavy, but refreshingly lighthearted and uplifting. My third pick would be one of the earlier ones with Fortress. Really hadn’t heard anything from that time period that sounded like that, so felt extremely new and interesting for me.
Recommended Tracks:
“Red Stars Over the Battle of Cowshed”
“Bloodmeat”
“Drumhead Trial”
“Cold Water”
“The Fireside”
“Grandfather’s Axe”

New album after 7 years comes out December 1st! You guys think they'll tour on this one or stay just a studio project?

That's probably a unusual question to be made, but what are your recommendations on "Anthem" like songs?
To make myself clear, when i mean Anthem like songs, I'm looking for that type of song that whole arenas would sing along, i really do mean to get into the "generic" label.
Stuff like:
I Won't Give In - Asking Alexandria
Begin The Sacrifice - Fit For a King
Fever - Normandie
All Sempiternal and some Bad Omens and Architects Albums.
The thing is, I don't want something that soft, I still want to hear the instruments, and I still want some degree of heaviness. I usually spend most of my time listening to pretty heavy stuff, and i want to make a more soft and melodic Playlist.
Edit: Holy there are a lot more messages than i expected, I'll listen to all as soon as i have the time to it

I often buy second hand records on vinted, mostly black metal, and I keep getting fooled by this Taylor Swift album. Constantly this album gets recommended by the algorithm and is often in the middle of actual metal albums. This keeps happening with this specific album and every time I immediately think “wow cool, don’t think I know this one, must be atmospheric bm”.
Are there non-metal art covers that trick you?
