Ohmygod, this legitimately happened to me at about the worst time. This picture just triggered some PTSD, I swear.
I was going to propose to my wife. I had the ring in my pocket. We entered the location, a park where we had one of our first dates. I said I had to go to the bathroom (I did a bit, but really I also wanted to just calm myself down and focus on what I wanted to say). I took a leak, and flushed. I go to zip up - and yeah. It's stuck like this. And these were new shorts since I wanted to look nice for the date/proposal pics, with a smallish zipper thing, which had some stupid paint coating on it. So I can't get the thing out.
I'm freaking out now in the stall. What do I do? I'm sweating even, thinking I'm going to have to propose with my fly open and get pictures like that. I stop, sop up the sweat on my face with toilet paper, and take a deep breath. With like surgical precision and every nanometer of my fingernails, I get a grip on the thing and it just moves up one little tooth on the zipper, and then up it went and the zipper was closed.
I proposed and she said yes, we've been married for 15 years now. I've never told her this story. But now you know because holy shit, this picture.

Almost as bad as getting your beard caught in the zipper

Needle nose plyers for the win

u/My_Robot_Double 29d ago
What i do is I put my thumb or finger directly behind the zipper thingy and push hard outward. Pops right out every time.

Oh my god so annoying. And you either have just cut your nails, or, you bend a nail backwards trying to dig it out. š„“

u/r3dditr0x 29d ago
It's the worst. It also happens to pillow protectors.
3
u/KatAstrophie- 29d ago
I had to buy a new pillow protector to go over the one I couldnāt remove because the zip John Cenaād me!

Fire the person who designed this and also fire the person who approved of it.
2
u/RebekkaKat1990 29d ago
Especially when you literally just unzipped the fucker and now itās stuck already

u/CrustyMcgee 29d ago
Itās so mildly infuriating that it almost makes it to the next level of infuriating.

I remember laying on my bed with my legs up against the wall desperately trying to untuck a zipper at leadt 2 times a week in primary school
2
u/heftybagman 29d ago
Okay but on throw pillows I will tuck it in and then spend 4-45 mins untucking it later.

Or when the zipper itself literally comes of the pants while you are at school or at work š«Ŗ.

u/WellJustJonny 29d ago
Used to have a pair of jeans where the brass zipper wouldnāt stay zipped so I put a key ring on it and hooked it over the button then buttoned up the jeans.
I did this also because the zipper would also tuck itself in like above.

u/theandroid01 29d ago
I never know how it happens (maybe in the wash) and pisses me off everytime. Only discovered in putting on said pants. Always take them back off to fix it

u/Special_South_8561 29d ago
Dude I hate it! Gotta wiggle and jiggle, finagle just right.
Or I have a small pair of needle nose pliers that do he trick!

u/TeemoMakesMeHappy 29d ago
Work at a cleaners and gotta deal with this shit all the time. Push it out from the inside of the jeans zipper when unzipped and bam simple fix. Can post a video if you need but becomes easy work after.

Life hack: Use a pen or a small screw driver and insert into hole on zipper handle. Pull up.

Needle nose pliers

u/sponglered 29d ago
Who's carrying those out in public, though? It's not like this is a problem at home.
The pen suggestion is much more valuable.

u/QuirkyPossession539 29d ago

What about those short zippers they put in pants these days. I don't think they are taking anatomy into consideration

u/Ecstatic_Ad5579 29d ago
My solution has been needle nose pliers, but gently. Recommend removing pants first.
1
u/Equivalent_Grand_593 29d ago
Some how my zipper got stuck in a 90 degree angle in the wash. It's been like that for years
1
u/BusyEquipment529 29d ago
Wedge your thumb to it on the inside and your forefinger on the outside/pully part, as if you're pinching it, then pull

The best solution is to see if you can feed in dental floss and use that to pull the zipper up.

Almost everytime taken out of the dryer....then of course after you button up you go to zip up but no zip as the thing is so tucked down inš©
1
u/CobraCornelius 29d ago
You can use a graphite pencil, or any pencil to lubricate the teeth and loosen it up a bit then you need to use pliers, tweezers or loop some dentalfloss to pull it out.

u/tkdch4mp 29d ago
Man, OP, you can't just be tearing the jeans open to get out of them!
I mean, you can, you do you, haha, especially in the heat of passion and all that.
But it'd be slightly more preventable if the "lock" was up/out instead of down

u/skittlesaddict 29d ago

When this happens to me I find the easiest way to get it out is to use the prong of my belt as a lever

u/ACuddlyVizzerdrix 29d ago
I always have issues with this and my zipper going down so I just put a key ring on the zipper to keep it from tucking and I thread my button through the ring so my fly doesn't go down
