Didn't even make it to the overhang above the door to keep it dry.
Got a nice, soggy, banged up bluray player.

u/TerepeneRich 20d ago
I just realized he was a flex driver. I hope you reported his ass. Embarrassing. Why take the job if this is how you’re going to act.
288
u/I-came-for-memes 20d ago
Because they are usually incapable (in attitude) to hold any other job.
119
u/TerepeneRich 20d ago
No, I know. It’s just sad you know.
I used to drive for Amazon, not as flex. It’s just embarrassing, ya the worked sucked but no reason to treat someone’s stuff like that and trust me I had to do some annoying ass shit but I just never let it get to me. It’s whatever. Just makes me sad to see people act like this. Anyways. Have a good Sunday6
u/BubbleBobble-007 20d ago
This is the same company that forced warehouse employees to piss in bottles instead of giving them bathroom breaks, and yet despite that well known reality, Americans choose to continue making something like 40% of all online purchases through that company. Really, the dude breaking this package isn't the problem, the problem is American consumers knowingly participating in systems which exploit workers, and then deriding/ mocking those same people when they are pushed to their breaking point. Pay people like this guy a living wage and I guarantee this sort of thing would be a lot less common.
27
u/I-came-for-memes 20d ago
In fairness, it's not a 1 source problem. Amazon, consumers, and workers are all at fault. Amazon has terrible capitalism practices and greed. Consumers are cheap and prefer convenience. Workers like you see in the clip are sometimes just terrible people regardless of money.
22
u/Scrollingmaster 20d ago
Yes I’m sorry but this is not simply an amazon problem.
I work at ups, a union company. We get people who absolutely do not give a fuck who think they will show up and not try and get paid $47 an hour. People who will show 30 minutes late on the third day, or complaining about injuries from rec basketball or kickboxing (real things people have complained to me about). Dudes will show up and make 90 deliveries in a day acting like they did good when I did double that. They had to put up signs in the building that smoking weed on ups property on the clock was still illegal. The people loading the trucks would try hiding in the truck and taking puffs of weed vapes as they could.
Some people will be dogshit at any job they do because it’s their attitude.

this dude doesn't even work for amazon though. This is just a flex driver. It's a glorified doordasher.

You have no contract with this person.
It is straight forward to go after Amazon, the party you have paid money to and received a broken product.
Also, you are suggesting spending money suing a gig worker. Good luck collecting. They are probably deep in drug and/or credit card debt.

You make it sound like taking Amazon to court isn't also going to ruin that dudes life.
5
u/Scrollingmaster 20d ago
It isn’t. At worst he’ll lose this gig job and move to another. Its amazon flex.

It's the individual's fault for not being able to control their own emotions? Admittedly, Amazon is probably mistreating them and paying them shit wages, but that's no excuse to take it out on customers. It wouldn't have made that much of a difference for them to just quickly walk up and place it on porch...

I'm just dumb founded at this comment, how old are you? Do you hold a normal job? Pay any bills?
Who in their right mind, is going to take a day off of work for such a cheap item from amazon...you don't know the damage, if it works, and it's a simple return to amazon if its damaged...yet you're here suggesting they go to small claims?
I am fucking dumb founded, this country has failed millions. 42 upvotes for this ridiculous comment.
I can assure you the package gets thrown longer and harder as it goes through shipment.

The hate for BlueRay players is hilarious. Some of us like physical media that doesn't require an internet connection, and it looks great. Fricken' weirdos.
51
u/Smeeble09 20d ago
The quality difference between a decent 4k bluray and a stream is very noticeable, mainly in the audio.
I stream stuff, but also have hundreds of blurays.
21
u/nescienti 20d ago
Plus, you don’t get a periodic “I am altering the deal. Pray I do not alter it further” popup because they’re gonna sell your viewing history, raise prices, or put ads in the supposedly ad-free tier you paid extra for.
8
u/InvidiousPlay 20d ago
It's also the consistency. Sometimes Netflix is just "I'm not in the mood for giving you HD at the moment" and there's nothing you can do.
12
u/ErgoMachina 20d ago
Most people don't understand that the bitrate of the '4K UHD" the streaming companies provide is utter shit and not really 4K. But whatever, modern society is stupid af.

I've recently started buying physical media again after like 15 years with as much digital as possible. I've lost too many things I bought previously to the vagaries of companies shutting down or losing licenses.

I mean yeah. Vinyl is still an extremely niche market. Most of what props up the modern market is people buying 20 differently colored versions of the same shit. And modern vinyl quality is not great either.

People are saying this is because he’s a flex driver but when I worked for a DSP, we had guys making insane timing by the fact they practically didn’t leave their van their entire route, just chucking packages through the window or door. And they didn’t get fired, promoted even. Wild times.
11
u/tonysopranosalive 19d ago
Literally the only thing DSP’s care about are those metrics they need to hit.
I used to do their XL stuff. Straight truck, helper provided which could be great if they worked or I’d rather be in the truck myself because you’re fucking useless.
I remember I got to a stop and realized I had forgotten a piece. A generator. Got to the stop and followed the training and marked it as “package not on truck” or whatever it was. Promptly got a phone call from the warehouse saying: “hey yeah don’t do that, it fucks our metrics. Just call us instead and we’ll take care of it.”
Literally didn’t care about anything other than metrics. I saw one of the best drivers they’d ever pull (guy who actually had a CDL, efficient as fuck on routes) get fired because he unbuckled his seatbelt to take off his jacket. The truck was in drive and crept forward inches in the parking lot he took his break in. They fired him for no seatbelt. It was just a revolving door of people to the point I stopped making any effort to learn names.

Reminds me of a sad period of my life when I worked in a Spectrum call center. Our commission percentage was bracketed based on sales goals. So say 5 different levels of like 1% up to 20% (I don't remember at all). People who would scam old ladies, add shit they didn't order, etc. consistently got the top commission level and made bank. All you had to do was get through 1 billing period and those sales counted for you. People with autopay don't always notice. It was terrible to realize I had to be sleazy to actually make any money. So I just walked out one day when some North Carolina hick was yelling at me at 8:15am.

My best friend got his overpriced gaming PC delivered in a similar fashion. He came home to a drowned 5K€ brick - helping him with customer support was .. an experience.. He's yet to be refunded or provided an RMA.
29
u/IllllIIIllllIl 20d ago
I’d go through the bank at that point with a chargeback, if that’s a thing with euro banks. Provide all documentation showing he’s made every effort communicating with both responsible parties. If it’s paid by credit card it’s the bank’s money, and they’ll be happy to work hard to get €5K back.
14
u/TheVirus32 20d ago
Companies are at the "let's play blame ping pong for a while and see if he gives up" stage of process. He called the bank and they made it clear that won't intervene, from what I can gather they only cover small phishing scams and the like.
Kinda wild to see companies dealing with shipping, by their very essence, expensive pieces of gear and seeing them fumble when things go wrong.
We aren't anywhere near as protected in europe as what most americans seem to think.
I now have a mental note to always use paypal as an added layer of protection for big purchases ^^".
3
u/spawndoorsupervisor 19d ago
As someone who has been ordering online since the 1990s, I'd say it's a lot easier to deal with shipping and delivery mishaps than in the past.
In the late 90s through mid 2000s, if a package arrived damaged, or not at all, you were just kind of stuck because some small online retailer has no reason to believe your package was stolen, or you didn't damage the item. Meanwhile, my last Amazon return was for a pair of $1200 headphones, and it took less than 5 minutes of dealing with a chatbot to get my RMA and shipping label.

At that point sounds like it's time to find a lawyer. Depending on the country, the loser pays the lawyer fees, and sounds like he has a slamdunk case.

u/TheVirus32 19d ago
I'd need to check with someone I know who works in the field ... But there's a lot of pretty common joke around here where they address cases for stolen VHS tapes in the 80s and the like in 2026. It's all up to my bud, it just really sucks because I know that he saved for quite a while only for a disgruntled employee to create one hell of a butterfly effect.

I had some LTO tape drives delivered in the rain, thankfully they were in ESD bags wrapped in bubble wrap so no water got into them, the same couldn’t be said for a few DLT tapes I got, they didn’t have a shrinkwrap seal, only a sticker so they got properly dipped, again I got incredibly lucky and the tapes weren’t actually wet

LTO - Linear Tape Open
ESD - Electrostatic Discharge
DLT - Digital Linear Tape
You only really need to know what ESD stands for as the LTO and DLT are names for some tape formats (hence not adding much extra context) used in computer backup, only someone in IT really needs to know them.

At least it was thrown at your house. Someone else is enjoying our new security cameras. “The delivery picture is not of my house” is not carrying much weight with FedEx

Nope, sure doesn’t. “Contact the seller/shipper, they have more power than you in this situation. Never mind the fact we have a picture AND the GPS location of where it was delivered.”

4
u/SyncError 19d ago edited 19d ago
In general, too many people are under paid, over worked, while simultaneously being told they matter in corporate speak while being treated like they do not matter. And this is exacerbated by increasing costs of goods leaving people to feel like they have no other choice than to stay in the jobs they have.
They still 100% should have walked it to the porch, placed it down gently in the best possible location and done their job well. They should probably be fired. But it happens because people are tired and apathetic.

I'd go down to a decently rated thrift store and buy one of these honestly. You're paying around a hundred bucks for one online, meanwhile I went to a thrift store and got one for around 15 bucks or so and it works fine. That plus a free VCR that they just let me have and another DVD player I bought for 8 bucks

Had no clue Amazon even did 3am deliveries until we heard a thud on the door in the middle of the night. Dogs freaked out, baby started crying, I’m about to call the cops for an attempted B&E until i check the cameras and see an Amazon dude had just tossed a package on the porch like this..

Damn, good thing that got caught on camera. Should make any claims manageable. But annoying if one doesn't have such a proof.
General surveillance is not nice when it is in the hands of the government or companies but so often it also shows how awful people are to others for no apparent reason.

u/Anxious-Client9719 20d ago

The more clips like this I see the more likely I am to put my order through click and collect from a local pick-up point. Thankfully I have one at the corner shop at the bottom of my road. Surely those packages are delivered in bulk and have to be signed for by the shop receiving them? Way less likely to be mistreated, surely
