I think it's pretty ridiculous by US standards too. AFAIK it's normally 10% is kind of the default, 15% - 25% is if they did a really good job and if they did a really bad job then either 0 or like 5%

It has seemingly crept up for years. As a kid in the 80s and 90s, 10% was fine. 15-20% was huge. Now 20% seems to be the standard.

Yep, maybe my family were cheapskates, but I always remember 10% being standard. Meal was about $20 Canadian, we'd leave a toonie on the table for the server. That was it.
