If you buy a beer from the bar, you sometimes don’t tip? Always tip an extra $1 for that unless the bartender is extraordinarily rude while they serve you
Sorry, you said you never tip for a beer. I guess we live different lives because I will almost always order drafts at bars instead of bottles/cans, for a similar reason you’re getting at
That's mine! I adopted that a few years ago when tipping culture started getting out of hand. Hundreds of interactions and not a single "weird" one since then.
I’m not tipping you to hand me a beer or pour a glass of wine. If you’re making conversation w/ me because I’m sitting at the bar or mixing drinks, that’s different.
I’m not going to tip people for existing just because they ask. That’s stupid as hell.
Somehow the rest of the world is able to maintain restaurants and bars without panhandling for tips.
You must certainly be a bartender. What makes a bartender more entitled to tips than the minimum wage worker slaving away in the back making my burger, drink, and bagging everything? Isn’t that a service as well?
The minimum wage grocery worker that bagged your items doesn’t deserve a tip and has to rely on his hourly wage, but the bartender does?
What about the janitor who has to do the additional service of unplugging a shit filled toilet? Should we start leaving tips?
I’m sorry that society works this way. It is dumb. But not tipping someone isn’t “taking a stand,” it’s being a stingy asshole to a human being.
That’s the way the system works. You’re on the wrong side of it, unfortunately. I’m not even saying you need to tip for every single service and every single thing. But an extra dollar goes a long way
You’re a bartender. You rely on tips lol. I’m still not tipping you, pal. This is not about empathy. You’re mad at the wrong person. Ask your boss to pay you better.

My rule of thumb is that if I’m standing when I order I do not tip.
