When they announced there could be ads, I promised myself I would cancel the moment I saw the first ad. Then I saw an increase in price, so I immediately cancelled.

Getting less and paying more for it. Fuck the mouse.

They just pulled a huge scam too. I had Hulu at a discounted rate of $1.99 a month for a year. After 5 months, they locked my account section up so I couldn't look at it at all for well over a month, and then charged me $12.99 for a month. My credit card reversed it, and Hulu is now freaking out because I canceled it all.

Cancelled when they announced ads on all tiers. Funny thing is I just had it in case I wanted to watch something so I was giving them money for nothing most months.

It pissed me off when streaming started inserting ads!

When streaming began, the whole premise was "you're paying a subscription fee so we dont need to show ads". Then one by one, they started putting ads. Then raising the prices, then adding new tiers that were ad-free.

It's beyond ridiculous now.

It almost like it's the new cable TV or something! 🤔

By ads they simply meant the promos before and after the thing you want to watch that you can skip that every other streaming service already does.

The line in the sand for me is once they start showing ads for other services. I just cycle through services as things come that I want to watch at this point.

I love how most people enjoy the previews in a movie theater but somehow this is a problem on a streaming service?

"Get a 20tb flex server! Go to your library!" These are not realistic solutions for the vast majority of the consumers of streaming services. If these work for you, that's great, but the convenience of the whole thing is the biggest driver of the price.

This is literally how it starts. It’s just one ad before. Then it’s one ad you can skip if you click. Then it’s just one quick promo during the show.

This is how it's been on every other streaming service for awhile now. I've yet to see an ad mid program, and anything before are after are for other offerings on the same service that are instantly skippable.

If something interrupts mid program that's a different story. And if it's for something else completely that's an instant no for me.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a Netflix ad before watching anything on Netflix

Netflix is probably the best about it. They show them after/during credits with the "you might like this" screen.

I haven't seen an add on anything I watch. Pretty easy to give them the finger instead of continuing to take it up 2nd Ave...

u/justanawkwardguy you do it like this 1d ago

No, they made the standard tier that was previously ad-free have commercials

Since 2022 there's been the standard with ads and the premium with no ads. Premium still doesn't have ads.

The price has gone up significantly since then but they haven't put commercials into the premium sub.

Yep. I'm not paying for a year of AppleTV when I'll just binge watch all the shows for a month or two then cancel.

Yeah I knew that the advertising would be promos, but I still don’t care. Disney can afford to not do anything like that in my opinion
