Cancel your subscriptions! We used to get 130+ channels for less than $100 bucks. Basic cable was like $40 bucks! Now you get 4-5 streaming services with rotating seasons of the same crap for $100/month. Just stop paying for this shit. You have a choice. I cancelled nearly all of our streaming in November of last year and it felt great TBH.

Or you can get 130+ channels, and 8 cable subscription services for 100+ sales tax.

Or you could connect a Raspberry Pi to your TV, pay $30/y for a good quality VPN and then pirate everything.

Fuck the greedy cunts at this point

So Netflix + 1 other service is cheaper than cable? Yea, that seems like a way better deal cause you can watch what you want when you want and without ads.

TBF basic cable was also full of shit programs with ads on every single program, HBO was $15 a month in 1995 which is about $33 adjusted for inflation

The draw of streaming used to be the on demand nature of viewing and an ad free experience though. Now, through the enshittification of every damn thing, you're paying more for a worse experience. Streamers take more of the pie and consumers get less. I was so excited to finally watch Backrooms when it came to HBO and yet, a movie like that with 6 ad breaks ruins the entire experience. Some would say well why wouldn't you go see it in the theater? Well, I just dragged my ass out to see Resident Evil and two idiot couples behind me talked the entire movie also ruining the experience.

Netflix use to be able to get away with that, because they were the only game in town, and other companies didn’t know how to make money showing stuff online, so they gave Netflix the rights to do it for cheap, so Netflix was getting the entire streaming game, and being fed cheap stuff they could put on, so they could have ad free, good media to give people, and make money doing it.

Then as more people started to stream vs DVD sales, the companies realized they were giving away profits, so they stopped giving it to Netflix, who in turn lost customers and their source of cheap media, so they had to pivot to making their own stuff, which is why they could not make money off 100% add free, good media anymore.

Why are you only signed up for the ad supported version?

I'm not signed up at all. I have someone's HBO login but chose to rent Backrooms to actually enjoy the movie. Why are you willing to continually pay more for an increasingly inferior experience? All platforms continue raising prices for you to maintain the shitty level of experience you currently have while investing less in quality programming. The natural progression is for these streamers to make all tiers ad supported anyways.

What do you watch

So here's the thing. I've always been skeptical about streaming or even buying digital on platforms bc you never really own it. So I have a good amount of physical media.

I use Roku live TV, Pluto and Tubi. I pay 8 dollars a month for apple TV because of Widow's Bay, Severance, Shrinking and Silo (haven't finished the latest season as it's pretty terrible IMO). I utilize the public library for a lot and have made it a point to watch (new to me) old movies and shows. I also spend 12 bucks a month to support two patreons for creators I enjoy and know the money is going directly to them vs a huge conglomerate focused on destroying the arts and mediums which made them millions.

I view it as social media. It'll suck up all your time if you let it. I'm watching less and doing more of what I enjoy AND saving money.

I’ll never understand this argument. Just pay for one watch all the stuff you want. Cancel. Subscribe to the other. The most I have ever paid a month for streaming is $35…
